Sharpie Marker incident - need help

That's what makes it worse, we have all the erasable markers, pens, and crayons at our house and he gave them the Sharpies to draw faces on their balloons because nothing else would stay on the balloons but Sharpies. The girls even have their own "craft" table that they could use, but he let them stay on the couch, because I am sure it was much easier on him and then they wouldn't have to walk far in our huge 100 sq ft townhome!!!!

Did you try the Sharpie website? They recommend Amodex It also says NOT to use alcohol/hairspray first because it will set the ink.

Do NOT use hairspray or alcohol on microfiber couches. Been there, done that have the big(ger) spots to prove it. Ultimately, the only thing that (mostly) got my spots out was steam cleaning the entire chair with my Oreck steam cleaner. However, it also took some of the dye out of the chair, so my couch is lighter than my chaise lounge, but at least the spot is (mostly) gone.

I will never buy anything microfiber again.

Did you happen to buy the furniture protection plan? The furniture store told me they would have replaced the entire couch IF I had it and IF I didn't try to do anything myself to clean it and IF I called it in within 72 hours.

I've used Sol-u-mel many times to get Sharpie off of household items. When moving back in 2003 by DD got ahold of a Sharpie I was using to mark the moving boxes and preceded to make marks on every piece of furniture in her bedroom. Don't know if you know anyone who buys Melaluca products, but they are who sells Sol-u-mel. You can also get it off of ebay.

I used rubbing alcohol to get sharpie off the leather sofa and a wood table.

Beware of the erasable crayola markers they are permanant on fabric.

I have used the Scotchguard "Oxy" spot cleaner (comes in a blue spray-bottle) to successfully remove ink from our couch.
The only thing I could never remove was some kool-aid red dye from our carpet... Still have a lovely pink spot!

We used the Amodex for a sharpie stain on berber carpet at our old house.

Everything else made the marker bleed.

I think we found the Amodex at Home Depot.

It did get 95% of the stain out.

Spot Shot! This stuff will make sharpie dissapear before your eyes. I've never used it on my sofa, but I have used it on carpet, stuffed animals, clothes, folding chairs (with a cloth seat).

See, this is why ya gotta ask "What was Disney thinking?" when they got Sharpie to sponsor the EPCOT kid-cot stations! Does this mean my kids get to color their masks with Sharpies? That one is gonna go over real well!!

We have graffiti remover at work that will take it right out. They are called genie wipes. I am not sure if you can get it at a store, but I am sure they have some type of graffiti remover. whatever you use try in a small spot in a place not seen to make sure it doesn't ruin the fabric.

Well last night I tried a mild soap, oxy clean, and Woolite upholstery stain remover/cleaner on the stains and it did not work. It hasn't even lightened the stain. Today after work I am going to home depot and will pick up Amodex (because that's what Sharpie recommended), and a product called Lift off 3 which is a permanent marker/graffiti remover that says it works on furniture and fabric. Thanks to all the Disers for all the suggestions. My final attempt will be Spot shot and then rubbing alcohol!!!!!
