Sharing rides with strangers

My parents can't/won't go on all the rides I want to do, so on the ones where more than one person can occupy a ride vehicle, would I be sitting with other people? I don't mind at all; I'm just curious how it works. If I were on something like Dumbo, I assume I'd be sitting by myself, right? I can't imagine any parent allowing their child to ride with a stranger.

Most often, you will be by yourself on most rides. Off the top of my head, I've been seated with strangers on:

Splash, Space, Star Tours, Indy, Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Gadgets, Tower of Terror, Zephyr, Grizzly, Screamin', Wheel of Death, Midway Mania (only on the other side of the car, not on my bench)....

Obviously, many of those would have you next to strangers without or with anyone else in your party.

When I'm solo they always put me in a row by myself on Pirates.

Most of the "small vehicles" you will sit in a row/car by yourself. Some rides have single rider so they will seat individuals with you. Kids have to be over 7 to do single rider, but it is possible you would be sat with someone 7 or older on a ride with single rider.

Most often, if it has separate seats (i.e. Splash, Matterhorn, Indy) you'll be seated with strangers.
If it has bench seating (i.e. Pirates, Dumbo, Peter Pan) you'll be seated by yourself.

California Screamin and Big Thunder are the only two I've ever literally been sat next to someone. Depending on the line and several other factors affect it. If it's busy and there are big groups they'll take advantage and place solos together... It again depends on who's behind you and the timing of the ride unloading and the cast members ability to fill spots... But it's not guaranteed to happen, I went for 10 days and of the trip there were only 3 times I was sat next to someone. Once on big thunder and twice on Cali Screamin.

And Radiator Springs Racers as well but that's kind of a given... It'd be a waste to send one person in a car that fits 5?

I think of it this way...if it's individual restraints (screamin, racers, Indy) you'll probably have someone next to you, space seems to be the exception, if it's rows or single row ride vehicles you'll probably have your own...I've never shared a row with strangers on pirates, mansion, Peter Pan, thunder, etc. I'm actually surprised they had someone share on thunder. I would not be comfortable doing that, when you can slide over into the other person. Perhaps the individual behind you got over eager and was actually supposed to wait for the next train..?

I'm surprised about thunder too. I rode once with a family member who was bigger than I am. When she pulled down the safety bar it left me with plenty of room and I spent the ride sliding all over the seat. It was fine with family, but it would have been ackward with a stranger.

I go solo to Disneyland

Pirates, Indiana Jones, Nemos Submarine I have been sat in the row with others to fill up the spaces and maximise capacity
Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, Pinochio, Snow White, Mr Toads Ride, Alice In Wonderland, Autopia, Buzz Lightyear, Dumbo, Orbiton, and many others which have individual small cars, I have been on my own in the vechicle

One time I was with a stranger on Goofy's sky school. I think we were both very uncomfortable with that situation :)

Generally, anything with a single rider line, you will most likely be seated next to a stranger. If there's not a single rider line, you should be alone. My teens do single rider all the time and this is usually how it plays out.

I agree.

There's a single rider line for Goofys sky school.

Yep. Therefore the guy from the SR line should not have been surprised.

Depending on how long the wait is, single riders sometimes have to share cars on Mickey's Fun Wheel. I've ridden alone several times in a stationary car. Another time they stuffed two additional people into a swinging car with our party of four. That was definitely too crowded. At least they were nice people and didn't scream!

I've done Space Mtn several times lately as a solo rider and they haven't added anyone to my row. It might just be a fluke of how the guests are lined up in queue, but they don't seem to make an effort to find another solo rider (or odd numbered group to add me to) to fill in my row.

I had a woman climb into my doom buggy on Haunted Mansion once. She ended up sitting next to my daughter ( I was on the other side). I tried to explain, but she didn't speak English. It was a little weird

Yeah I'm thinking the big thunder one was a mistake.
I didn't think anything of it because it was my first time at Disneyland, but looking back I did feel odd because I remember trying to keep my knees to one side, haha... I'm sure it was either a misunderstood guest or some sort of mistake...

Good to know for next trip if it ever happens again!
