My DW are bringing our lovely 3 teenagers...the parents are not very big eaters... is it ok that we share a dinner? are there "splitting" charges?

You can share as long as it's not buffet or family style meals like Ohana. No sharing charge that I've come across.

This is true, we have done it several times at different places. If you tell the server that you plan to do this sometimes they will have everything split for you in the kitchen. I know that Concourse steakhouse has done this in the past for us.

We just got back last night and I say "Go For It!" Disney portions are huge. I cant eat that much. DS, 7yrs and I shared and it works for us meal wise and price wise

We have split meals with no trouble at all. At Mama Melrose we asked to share a Caesar salad, and the waiter presented it on two separate plates and each half-serving was plentiful.

(We've done this when paying cash...never tried with the Dining Plan.)
