Someone told me that you can't share meals at the sit down restaurants in Disney, only at the quick service counters. Is that true? Is that only if your on the dining plan? Or is that only if you are not on the dining plan?

I've read a lot of tips about sharing quick service meals, but haven't seen much about sharing entrees at a sit down restaurant.

Not unless they changed the rules since last oct 2013.

personally shared porterhouse steak with dd10 while on the dinning plan at the yatchsman steak house.

We both love porterhouse steak, we both cant eat it all so why buy two.

Not true at all. The only exception is at Via Napoli if you are on the dining plan. They won't let you use one credit to feed multiple people. Everywhere else, and everywhere if you are paying out of pocket, you can share. With the obvious exceptions of buffets, all-you-care-to-eat, and pre-paid packages (CRT, Fantasmic, Candlelight Processional).

My mom and I shared a salad, pasta dish and dessert at Mama Melrose's. We knew from experience that there was no way we would be able to finish two meals. I did tip the waitperson as though they served two meals though. It wasn't his fault that we're not big eaters.

In addition to what's noted above, you can't share at Disney if one person is using a Dining Plan TS credit to pay for the meal, while the other person isn't on the Dining Plan at all. If both of you were on the Dining Plan, you could share a meal, and use one person's TS credit (except Via Napoli).

I've heard that San Angel Inn also doesn't like it but haven't had personal experience with issues anywhere when paying OOP. We order no more than we want at TS and split almost everything everywhere - never had anyone bat an eye. Dining plan could be completely different though - I know for instance you can't split the porterhouse at Yachtsman anymore. Its considered a meal for two so they take two credits from both people when you get that one now (4 credits total).

I must be in the minority to think that it is weird to go to a sit down restaurant and split meals. Then again, I don't think most meals at disney are large enough to split.

I feel like the wait staff is being short changed serving 2 people, but getting tipped for only one meal.

Eh we share on occasion. Depends how much you usually eat or if you've had a snack earlier. Of the waitstaff isn't rude about it we double the tip. Of they are rude (and a couple have been) we just tip on the food ordered. It is no different than me just not eating which is sometimes the alternative.

We typically split an appy or each get soup or salad, split an entrée and maybe split a dessert, if we have room, we do this at WDW and at every vacation destination we go. Two full entrees, appy, dessert--would be way too much food!!! We have shared at every WDW restaurant, other than the buffets/etc that we have gone to, no issue what so ever. We have never left hungry!! (and this is all OOP dining) And we tip just like the poster above..

DH and I share a lot at Disney. We over tip when we do so. We were just at Disney June/July this year and it was not a problem.

I do not like to waste food and I do not like to over eat.

At buffets you will obviously be charged for each person (same with family style restaurants).

All others you can share if you are paying OOP, some have rules against sharing with the Dining plan but if you are not on the plan you can do as you please :thumbsup2

When paying out of pocket (not on Dining Plan) and not buffet, we have never had a problem splitting a meal. We are actually more inclined to share at Disney table service meals because the portions are typically larger than at counter service, AND we are not going to be able to pack it up to go and eat leftovers later - I just hate being wasteful. And like PP, we tip generously when we share to compensate the server.

I don't think it is weird but we rarely share a meal. We do like to get two meals and split them between us. That way we can try more than one thing on the menu. But if there isn't two things we both want, we get our own. The exception being Via Napoli a few weeks ago. He wanted one pizza and I wanted another. We were paying OOP. The waitress suggested we get the large pizza and just have half of each. Which we did. And both halves were delicious!

Anytime I have split meals I tip extra.

Really???? Almost every meal I saw last time were HUGE.

But I also am the the type to order Happy Meals at McDonald's because that is a healthier serving size to me.

I do think some wait staff may get short changed. But as long as people are accounting for that and increasing their tip I don't think it is an issue.

You can seriously eat only a kids happy meal and nothing else and have that be a full dinner? No snack later ect? If so, you are a better woman than me because 4 nuggets and a half handful of fries doesn't do it for me.

Yep. Small soda or milk, 4 piece, apple slices and small fries and I'm good.

That's well over 400 calories. :confused3

Plus you get a toy.

Really? I have a coworker who is a BIG eater & he says they always get served WAY too much food on the dining plan. And this is a guy I've seen eat an entire pizza or 4 bratwurst with 2 helpings of sides :rotfl:

We share meals all the time. I am trying to reduce calories and this helps a lot. Every time my husband shares with me he says it is the perfect amount of food. If he doesn't want to share my son usually does! We also usually order more cocktails with the savings ;) that's where my calories come from
