Sharing MB's with off site guests?

We have a TON of MB's. Most of which will soon be replaced by the almighty AP band.

Can I deactivate our old bands and then hand them over to some friends who are traveling in June but staying off site so they can avoid the $12.95/band? Can they link someone else's deactivated band to their tickets?

No, they can't.

Besides, with them staying off site, the only thing the Magic Bands can be used for is entering the parks and getting on the rides they have FP for, which they can do just fine with their tickets.

If the bands have been deactivated, then they don't work anymore. That's why the option is there. If you lose the band, you can remotely turn it into a colorful bracelet.

There's no real advantage for offsite guests to have the MBs. There are only 3 times that they will need to pull their tickets out for FP+. It's not that big of a convenience to have your tickets on your wrist instead of your pocket.

I agree that there's not that big a difference in using a plastic card or a wristband to get into the park or pass through FP+ line. Yes, it is a bit more convenient to have your tickets always available on your wrist, especially for someone like me - a mom who ends up with everyone's cards in her bag and has to hand them out when needed - but again, it's not SUCH a big convenience.

But here's my question...if having a magic band isn't a that necessary and your park ticket serves you just as well, why are people buy and selling Magic Bands on Ebay?!?!?

Due to multiple reservations and purchasing APs, I will be getting 4 sets of Magic Bands for my family and we still have out set from last year. It will be fun to have different colors, but chances are we will use one set for our trips this year and have extras for fun. Like the PP I will be willing to give Magiv Bands to those who might need them...but as others have said - why would they need or want them??

There's something they can be used for in the Disney Infinity game, but other than that my guess is that the sellers are hoping that the buyers don't know they're not necessary.

The AP band doesn't do anything different than the other ones you have. If you got it in a different color than the others (and if the others are in a variety of colors for each person, then you've got a little set that you can use to color coordinate with.


As far as ebay goes...almost every single listing I see explains that it's for Infinity. Now what I'm loving are the sales of the empty boxes. Oh and a brochure!

With FP+, I can easily set up FP+ times for different kids to do different rides or attractions. However, when we go next year, I don't necessarily want to send a pair of 13 year old boys across the parks with their tickets in order to access their FP+ as I've seen how they lose things. I'd have confidence that the older two kids would keep track of their tickets, but still we like to have one parent keep the tickets for the entire family when we are at theme parks.

Also, we will be there with extended family who may want to take our youngest with cousins for a while. I'd feel more comfortable sending them off with FP+ reservations accessible by MB than having to make sure that I give ticket to my sister who gives the ticket to my mother who gives the ticket my aunt who returns them to me, KWIM?

Well, that's certainly a set of circumstances that I did not consider. Thanks for shedding some light on the situation. I can see why someone might want a couple of MBs in your case but why not just give the kids lanyards and call it a day? The MBs can also be lost. That's why you have the ability to deactivate them remotely.

But the problem remains, any MB is attached to a single name within a select MDE account. You cannot "port" that MB to another MDE account, nor can you transfer it to another name within your account. So, if your neighbor shares her MB with you so that you don't need to buy one, she either has to grant you access to her MDE account so that you can make and change FP+ or else she will have to make all of your FP+ arrangements for you.

Your tickets would need to be attached to her MBs so that the FP+ reservations could be made. If you tried to use the MB to enter the park, the finger scan would show that it doesn't match the other finger scan data associated with the MB. I'm not sure if the same would happen if you tried to use the actual ticket to enter the park once the ticket has been linked in MDE.

I'm not sure that it's worth the hassle to save $13 per band and I'm not sure that the bands are worth $13 apiece to do a few FP+.

We had to get them out of wallets, purses, or lanyards; my son list his once and we spent an hour looking for it, we have very different aged kids and split up frequently and had to make sure right parent had right card. Also, we have memory maker and that is not set up to scan the tickets so we always had to make sure the person who would be getting a photo had the memory maker card. I know these are minor inconveniences, but all of those extra things to keep track of went to the wayside with the bands. Also the kids love them. It is correct they are not necessary and it would save money to not purchase them, but for us they have enhances our ease of travel. One other thing although not advertised this way, I am pretty sure if my 4 year old got separated they could scan her band and find it linked to my account? Just a thought.

a CM wouldn't even see that as they are not going to remove anything that is on a child, not just a MB.

EXACTLY and at what $12.50 or something each.?..nuts

No. That band is going to stay assigned to you, you can deactivate it but you can't trade or give it to someone else. You can give it to someone while in the park to use your FP reservations if you don't want to use them, but they can't use it for their own, nor can they use yours for park admittance.

The AP band is no different from any other band. any band assigned to you can be used interchangeably.

They won't remove the bands and they have no way to call you either. Cast are not allowed to use cell phones on duty and managers iPhones are just glorified iPods, they have no calling service from them.

If your child is lost, get a cast member to sound the alert over the radios and/or have them call the baby center to see if your child has been 'turned in' since that's where they take lost children after taking a few minutes to look for mom/dad.

I have extensive experience in the lost child process as my wandering 10yr old likes to play the disappearing act.

Yes the system they already have in place should be able to find you faster than trying to use the info on the band.

Also many think that they should be able to track a kid by use the "long range" scanners. Its just not set up that way. The best they could do is figure out where your kid was not is.

Let the CMs do their lost-child procedure. It works VERY well.

Buy them lanyards and lanyard pouches, put their tickets in the pouches and call it good. I personally like to loop a lanyard into a belt loop and put the pouch in my pocket. I am 100% sure I look incredibly dorky doing this, but I don't care. And I bet a 13 year old boy would look WAY cooler doing that.

MBs can fall off, and probably easier than a pouch can be ripped off or a lanyard broken and forgotten about.

The soon to be 5 year old, might not remember the number itself, but she definitely could tell the CM the phone number is on the inside of the band. A variation on using a sharpie on the child herself.

I am sure Disney has a plan and that they have it down to a T. But, having my number with the child does not seem to hurt.
