Sharing at Table Service meals? (NOT on DDP)

I tried to search for this, but all the results involved sharing on the DDP, which we will not be on.

Is sharing entrees at table service restaurants acceptable? Do they charge a certain price for sharing a plate?

There are a lot of new restaurants I'd like to try on our upcoming trip, but I thought it might be a little easier on our stomachs (and our wallets) if we shared a few of them.

Anyone had any experience with this?

Shula's is the only place that charges for sharing.

For all other Disney restaurants, sharing is more than welcome. For table service, most of the time (if not all the time), the order is split in the kitchen and brought out on two plates. I will warn you that most of the time, the side dishes are very close to full portions anyway. If your side is something like mashed potatoes, they aren't going to put one helping of potatoes on a plate, cut it in half and slid one half onto a plate. They will give one helping (maybe a smaller helping) on each plate.

Ask to share a soup and you won't get two spoons. You'll get two smaller helpings of soup in your own bowls.

Just tip your server as if you had ordered a similar full portion.

Yes you can share at TS restaurants, with the exception of all you can eat restaurants. Enjoy!

The above is correct as far as I can tell. Sharing is not permitted at buffets or family style all you can eat meals. You also may not share the all you can eat skillet at Whispering Canyon with anyone over age 2. At a la carte restaurants sharing is permitted. Shula's is the only restaurant currently reported to charge an extra plate fee.

DH and I always share everywhere. Restaurant entrees are too big for us and we don't want to gain weight. We usually share an appetizer, one of us orders an entree and the other a salad as entree, and we share each of those, then we have one dessert. We also order wine -- usually a bottle, and perhaps a dessert wine.

We recently shared a steak at Shulas and we were not charged a fee for sharing. Perhaps, however, that's because we ordered a half bottle of wine, too, so ended up with a fairly hefty bill.

I don't even think it's a problem on the DDP, unless someone has heard otherwise.

And, we never eat at buffets, which clearly don't permit sharing. Needless to say, since we love to dine out -- and want to maintain our respective weights -- we avoid buffets.

Thanks, everyone! This is exactly what I wanted to hear. I wasn't planning on sharing at any of the buffets we're going to (like Boma and Crystal Palace). I was thinking about sharing at places such as Hollywood Brown Derby, Rose and Crown, and places like that. I'm glad to hear it's not frowned upon, because now I won't be so worried about gaining weight and breaking the bank with all the restaurants I want to try! :thumbsup2

On our last trip to the World, we shared entrees at several restaurants, and no one ever questioned us sharing, but it was handled differently depending on the restaurant. At Hollywood Brown Derby, they did split the entree in the kitchen, as a PP suggested, which was wonderful. At 50's Prime Time Cafe, they brought us an extra plate so we could split it ourselves (not an easy thing to do with pot roast and mashed potatoes, and quite messy!). At Les Chefs de France, they brought one plate and we had to reach across the table and eat from the same plate.

Sharing at Rose and Crown is not a problem at all! Many people do it and we give out extra plates to make the sharing easier, see you soon!

We share our meals almost all the time. Most TS places split the meal in the kitchen, while some will give you an extra plate & have you divide it up yourselves. We also like to share at CS--they've always been happy to hand out extra plates when we ask. We share to save room for the really must-have foods at WDW: popcorn, treats from the bakeries, ice cream cookie sandwiches, mickey bars, etc.

The only restriction on the DDP is that you are not permitted to share with someone who is not on your room reservation (that is, someone who is not paying for DDP).
