Sharing a 2 queen room with another couple

The words thrifty and deluxe don't seem to go hand in hand. To me thrifty means value or mayb a moderate. IMO, 2 rooms would be so much more relaxing. You indicated in your post that you plan on spending little time in the actual room. If this is the case, why not try deluxe for a future trip. If you want deluxe benefits, I'd go to dinner and hang out at a deluxe resort's restaurant or bar. Some of the pools at the moderates are pretty nice to relax as adults (especially the quiet pools). The feature pools at the deluxe resorts always seem to be over run with kids (which is understandable). Also four adults and only one bathroom could prove to be uncomfortable if you have to wait your turn.

Sharing a room with another couple is really personal but it really depends on your relationship. Good luck with whatever you decide.

When married only 5 years or so...yes, we would have done it. After 20 years, NO!!! We are set in our ways both need down time and both have CPAPs with bodies that now make funny noises....no, no, no.

We did this several, dozens, multiple times with my in-laws who I love very much. You seem close enough not to have "issues" but my suggestion is to talk about how many pieces of luggage is "acceptable" to each couple. Once my in-laws reached 11 pieces of luggage for a four day trip, I put my foot down. And by "luggage", I mean, each bag. My in-laws had one bag for breakfast items, one bag for lunch items, one bag for "libations", one bag for "just in case" stuff like laundry fabric softener but they never did laundry, then each took two bags for their clothes, a bag for outer clothing, a bag for shoes, and a bag for rain gear. My husband and I traveled with a bag each. That would be my only suggestion.

I've only done it with family. I'm taking a vacation with my 3 best friends this summer, and we will each have our own room. There is such a thing as too much togetherness.

Other then a college road trip, no. With family only. Even then only on rare occasion and only if no other way. Would rather stay where we could afford.

The YC has the toilet in the shower/bath area with a door, and the basins outside that, worked fine for hubby and I (like I said, hisband or not, toilet time is private time! Lol)

Most resorts are like that. At CR when my daughter was 11, she was takinga shower, I could go to the bathroom and close the door in peace. Its only a toilet in there.

DH and I stayed with another couple in one room when we were younger (post-college, pre-kids). It worked fine and we saved a little bit of money.

The toughest part was sharing a single toilet & shower area with 4 adults in the morning. It took forever to get ready in the morning, and we became intimately aware of each other's bathroom habits. It just depends on how well your routines line up and how flexible you're willing to be without sacrificing your own comfort.

Five years later, now that we all have small kids? No way! We reserve as much space as we can afford. I don't even want to be in the same bedroom as my own toddler!

My group of close friends (including other couples) are pretty used to packing into a single room to save money and would be fine with this kind of arrangement if it let us stay where we wanted. If you're all okay with it, go for it. I'm just not that bothered by sharing a hotel room for a minimal part of the day. I often don't sleep well when I'm away from home anyway, so it doesn't make a huge difference to me to add two extra people. Some of my friends are closer to me than family anyway.

I couldn't. Like everyone else, I need my time. I want to be able to take my time after I shower and not rush to get dressed if I don't need to, not worry that I'm taking to long in the bathroom, have some alone time with DH.

I can stay with my girlfriends and we are doing a weekend together and sharing rooms, but we have been friends for many years and are comfortable with each other.
I guess that difference is when on vacation with DH, I want some time with just us. Which these days is hard with kids, but possible!

I couldn't do it, because of all the noises that people make in their sleep. The Disney diet makes for some digestive issues for many folks and I wouldn't want to deal with others or worry about me. And snoring, talking or moaning in sleep. What if the covers fall off, will you sleep in full coverage clothes, what about a bra? Or will you see something that you prefer not to see? Where will you change, in the bathroom? When you stay with strangers, you are "in public" all the time lol

Toilet during the night is my only real worry because I'm very private about toilet noises, even with my husband who I've been with for over 10 years.
But in terms of sleeping attire, these are people I'd happily wear a singlet, no bra and undies in front of. At the end of the day, underwear bottoms are not much different to swim suit bottoms.
And they're not strangers, they're our best friends so we share more than we do with most.

I think thrifty can be applied here regardless of deluxe accommodations. We are attempting to make the most of our money.
I would never consider a value, mod maybe, but I've only stayed deluxe and I like the benefits you get at the deluxe. The alternative is of course a DVC room with 1 or 2 bedrooms and is on our radar

Traveling from overseas means luggage reatrictions so that should be ok on our end

Why not get a one bedroom DVC unit? It won't cost much more than a room, especially if you rent points, and will give you some privacy.

That's definitely an option, however, neither couple really wants to sleep on a food out couch which is why we were considering a 2 bedroom villa.
And I didnt think the 1 bedroom villas had 2 bathrooms? I could be mistaken on that though?

I believe some one bedrooms do have 2 bathrooms. The Contemporary does, that I know. I think AKL does, but not sure about that one.

You should check out renting points (look at the DVC thread). Also, google magical vacations and ask for a quote. We were quoted a really great price for 2 rooms at the YC with tickets, but decided to rent points for a 2BR villa at the Boardwalk.

Damn, now I have to do MORE research ;-)

Ideally we'd like YC, BC/BCV (hate the decore in the villas though!), BWI/BWV (the pool freaks me out and doesn't compare to SAB), WLR/WLV or contemporary, mainly for their accessibility, but we will do what is best as a whole. I'm the disbey freak so I'll probably do the initial research and present narrowed down options to the others (and by "others" I mean "the other female coming because the men don't care as long as there's beer")
