All,

I am looking for advice on what's better - investing in DLP shares or simply buying a passport.

Lets face it, no-one really buys these shares for the investment - the price fluctuates very little and it appears to me that the discounts applied for shareholders and passport holders are very similar.

Is the biggest advantage of being a shareholder the long term benefits - i.e your membership and thus the benefit lasts 2 years?!

I am seriously considering investing in Disney so any advice current shareholders can give would be welcomed.

NB: This would be my first investment in shares so wider advice on this also welcome :thumbsup2

Thanks

To be honest as you don't have any shares currently I would go down the AP route ax you will have to spend over ¬500 to buy them. Which would mean many visits to get your money back

yep me too - there are a lot of factors to consider though.
My main reason for not adding to my existing shares to stay in the shareholders club is the cost of investing, even for a short time, the £500 or so needed for the shares plus buying/selling fees. Also, my daughter will be 12 on our next trip so will no longer be free in any onsite hotel deal. So getting at least one AP is a guarantee for us, so I might as well use the AP for the discounts - they work out to be a similar amount when at DLP as shareholders.

I would recommend you go down the annual pass route too. Shareholders get a better discount on table service meals but annual passholders get a better deal regarding shopping plus counter service is also discounted so it sort of balances out. I have some shares but will need to purchase more to stay in the shareholders club. If I decide to do that (and it's still a big if) it's going to be for sentimental reasons rather than financial ones, and I mean that in term of discounts not as an investment.

I have found being a Shareholder a good investment as we save on average 165.05 Euros / £140.75 per trip with our shareholder discounts. We eat a lot in the table service restaurants and find Salon Mickey a great place to relax, so for us being shareholders over the years has been a very good investment.

to be honest we use our shareholder card more in the disneystore at home were we also get a discount, so are planning to increase our shares we hope.
