Share your Sharing Stories/Tips!

I might be wrong but I believe CRT is a 'family style' served meal (sort of like a buffet where they bring you plates full of food) - so you cannot share here. Because you aren't actually ordering from a menu per person - you are just all sharing the plates full that they bring to you (unlimited).

Some TS places where you actually order specific meals is where you might be able to order one meal and share.

No, we went to CRT for lunch last Oct. and it is not a buffet. You choose your appetizer, entree and dessert, and it is not all you can eat. This actually was the one place where we were able to actually eat all the food we ordered (maybe we were just really hungry that day!).

DH and I split a lunch at Grand Floridian Cafe while DD was at the Wonderland Tea Party one afternoon, also. We were not on DDP, but just wanted a light lunch. We got the spinach dip and split a cheeseburger/fries. They brought the burger out already divided on two plates and were very gracious about it--didn't make us feel cheap or weird about doing this at all.

I'm not sure what you are asking.

If you are asking whether two adults -- both on DDP -- can share, bicker's response above is correct. As far as I know, that kind of sharing has never been a problem...although everything is subject to change and interpretation.

If you are asking whether five people on DDP can combine their DDP credits to feed six, no. That has been changed and is no longer permitted. The servers won't let you purchase more meals on DDP than you have participants shown on your card, even if you have sufficient credits.

I'm not sure, but I think this person may have meant that they would pay for one person and use dining plan for the other? Maybe not, but that's how I interpreted it.
This wont be a problem at CRT will it? We have breakfast ADR at end of trip for CRT and I was hoping I could pay for a couple meals there oop and use ddp for the other 2 (or 1 meal depending on how many TS credits we have left). We will only be dining at one other place after CRT and I wanted to use TS credits there instead of using 2 for CRT.
As long as I'm not trying to share a meal there since it's pre-plated, can I pay 1/2 ddp and oop for the other?????? TIA:goodvibes

We have shared counter service in the past because they can be huge. Two meals for 3 of us is fine. You can save the extra for a breakfast. Or if you used 2 TS for a signature dinner, use the extra CS for a dinner one night to make up for that.

These are all great ideas. I was thinking of going to two different 2TS meals (2 adults and one child) and possibly an adult evening out without our daughter... so I was going to end up short for one meal during our trip - and having an extra child TS. However, if we head over to ESPN - DH and I can share a meal. The nachos appetizer is more than I can eat anyway... so my DH can then order a meal. Let's hope it works! If not, it won't break the bank to buy the nachos and let my DH order what he wants. :)

We are 4 adults wanting to share 3 meals. We did it last year but had 6 adults sharing 5 meals. All of us were on the DDP. Just wanted to make sure nothing has changed. I figure I can just order soup or salad and pay cash if they frown at me not using a DDP. Even after sharing, my dd and I ate too much last year. BTW, we did not do any buffets. IU know you can not share those.

Thanks Tigger

Just got back last night and yes, we did share. The waiters would bring us extra plates without us asking. They even thought to bring us 2 smaller kids cups to share our 2 huge milkshakes at 50s Primetime. I didn't know milkshakes were included for the adults as a normal drink until the waiter told us. It was great! We ended up eating 8 full days (cereals in room, except for 3 CS credits for breakfast and Crystal Palace breakfast buffet for 4) on a 7night plan and still turned down desserts, etc. We also brought back candy for the kids and bought (2) 1/2 gallons milk, dozen donoughts (2) boxes of donought holes and a 2 liter with snack credits. It was a great value. Sorry to get so long winded, I was just impressed with the plan.

I don't think this is a problem. I've not done it at CRT, but we did do it at a few other restaurants when we were there last summer. Just tell your server so they can bill it correctly.

No, you are not long winded, Momx2, tell us more!!!! We are going in Sept. for 13 nights with the free DDP.
Thanks for letting us know about your experience.
Thanks,

Merged sharing threads into one (just in case you think, where did that new title come from:confused3 :rotfl2: )

The 4 of us would like to use 6 credits (instead of 8) at Flying Fish, Jiko & Brown Derby.
Share away!

We were never refused a reasonable request -- at Cefs, Le Cellier, San Angel and Coral Reef. As long as the request is reasonable they will not give you any trouble -- just don't expect it as a matter of course especially at the restaurants you mentioned above. Also, when they do take good care of you, leave an extra tip. That goes a long way to help the next diners. Good luck

Hmm, on my last trip (my first one in 23 years, thus the first on the Dining Plan!), I treated complete strangers to TS, CS and snack credits on my last day. It was much better than having those credits go to waste.
So, does anyone know if I would be preventing from doing that in the future? (I can see how sharing with a non-DDP diner on your own bill would be prohibited, though.)

We were at Coral reef and a lovely woman was asking for reservations ahead of me. She was told no dinner ADR's until after July 7th. This was back in June:scared1: . When she went to leave I asked her to wait one moment. Our DS was sleeping and so the nannies took him back to the villa. We were down 3 people! I asked if they would not mind, they could join our dinner.

It was so nice to have a chance to meet new folks, enjoy good food and help out a stranger.

We have bought dinners and lunches for strangers each time we find extra credits. If I see a person with a birthday button on I will go to cashier and just ask them to put the lunch on my card. And I ask they don't tell who did it.

Fun:yay: :yay:

Yes, guests are not permitted to redeem meals with Dining Plan credits for folks other than those registered in their hotel room.

Hopped on board here some time ago with the truly wonderful results we've had (except at Coral Reef) with sharing meals all over the Parks and DTD. BUT, just listened to the podcast that the guys that run this very website did yesterday, and one of the moderators, John Magi, was very specific that you could not share TS meals on the DDP (anymore?). We're going back in December (so paying for the plan), have all ADR's based on using our CS's for B'fasts, then sharing TS's for lunches and dinners. Could the moderator of this board, or "sharing" people coming back from WDW, keep this thread active with continuing new experiences they've had (which restaurants are still okay with it, which are making it hard, etc...)????

And, if sharing is no longer allowed with the DDP, does anyone know if it can it be cancelled? I assume they couldn't stop you from sharing if you're paying cash for your meals? Too much food otherwise!!!

Thanks to anyone for help with recent experiences!!

I hope we can share food, I can't eat a lot of food or types ( I get really sick so I have to be careful with what and how much I eat). We planed on sharing and I would order something small and pay oop.
I guess i'll see when we get there.

luce- i was also very surprised to hear this on the podcast!

Amber, when are you going ot WDW, and if before Dec 10th, can you make sure to post with your successes and failures here??? Please??? Thanks!!

I'll be going in September and will be back Oct 1st. I'll let you know how it went okay. I really don't know why they would care if you are sharing or not. :confused3 It's really all the same, plus your not wasting food.
