Share Your "No Cryng" Tips

I'm a big crybaby. I usually just let them fall - it gets worse if I hold them in. Tonight was senior awards night and the principal's award for overcoming adversity went to a friend of my son's who was gravely ill a few years ago. I almost burst into audible sobs.

I sing, and on emotional occasions where I'm going to have to sing (funerals, etc.) I have resorted to pinching myself on the wrist at times. The day after Good Friday this year I had bruises! I wouldn't suggest it.

My advice - no mascara, and let them fall!

It looks like I am in good company! I teared up during the Osbourne Festival of Lights.
Do you all agree songs make it worse? Why is that?
OR, it's pretty bad when someone else, like a speaker, starts crying. I was at an English Teachers Convention and ended up crying. The speaker was an author and a teacher who wrote a book about his childhood. He was talking about how much cooking for her family meant to his mother. Then, he talked about going over to eat at her house as a grown up and having her try to get him to take a bunch of leftover meatballs home. He started choking up (I swear, it was more touching than it sounds!). I was SO not prepared to cry at an English Convention. The sneak-attack tear-jerker is the worst!

BTW, I still haven't seen Toy Story 3. I refuse.

I am going to have to try some of these tips at my own wedding! I've been trying to listen to the processional that we chose, in an effort to desensitize myself...um, no dice. The minute it starts, I get all fluttery and I tear up. And trying to work on our ceremony...yeah, I cry even then. All we're doing is reading and choosing words! :sad2:

We went to a wedding where the couple wrote their own vows. They were so quirky and sweet, but there was no way I could have done that. I needed the distance you can put between yourself and the generic vows! DH even teared up during our wedding. I mouthed "Stop" to him because it was about to set me off.

I am on the verge of tears right now just thinking about times when I have cried (walking down the aisle) or when I expect to cry (5th grade graduation).

I was so embarassed a few years ago at DD's elementary school awards ceremony. I was there because DD was expecting to receive a perfect attendance award, but was surprised that she also won an "outstanding student" award, which I didn't even know existed. I was o.k. until I saw her teacher turn around to look at me, and then I lost it - audible sobs in the school gym. I'm a big baby.

I just attended a very sad funeral. To help me not to cry, I did the looking up trick, which helped somewhat. What helped the most, though, was closing my eyes and taking some deep, relaxing breaths.

I'm a crier too. I try to stay busy during things that would make me cry, usually taking pictures.

Other than that I wear waterproof mascara and bring a small makeup bag with me so I can repair the damage to my face.
