Ralphie in A Christmas Story surely isn't the only one with holiday mishaps.

How about the time that my aunt's boyfriend (now husband) decided to take a nap out in his car (no, he doesn't have a drinking problem  He only drinks wine  ). When he woke up he decided to drive down the street. Only one problem...we live on a dead end! The street ended with these huge concrete blocks (about 3 feet high). Guess who ran into them?

Anyone else have some "fun" stories to share?

Several years ago, we decided to paint the entire inside of the house and DH got a deal if they painted the week of christmas.

I moved the Christmas tree, fully decorated from room to room. I have never been so mad at him.

Why didn't you have them start in the room with the tree, move it before they started and when they were done painting that room, move it back to the original place:confused: You would only had to move it twice.

One year at Thanksgiving - when whipped cream first came in those cans that you shook - my aunt decided she was going to do it for kids - so the kids wouldn't make a mess - yep you guess it - she ended up spraying the whole kitchen with that can of whipped cream - we never let her live that one down

Me thinks the Husband would have been the one to move the tree.

It's funny when things happen like that we are so bummed we aren't thinking properly re: starting in the room tree was located then moving it back.

I have to admit I laughed when I read that story---sounds like home.

When my Grandmother was still alive, she would have a big big open house/holiday party. My Grandfather's sister is a nun, and at the time still wore full habit. She also did enjoy a cocktail or two. And, she was part of a fairly progressive convent, and was allowed quite a few home visits.

So, I'm about 11 or 12 at the time, my Aunt the nun is drinking MARTINIs, and gets a little sloshed. Well, a lot sloshed. She falls down an entire flight of stairs, but is so far gone, she is feeling no pain, and so relaxed, she just tumbled. She bounced off the wall at the bottom of the stairs, rolled into the den, knocked over an end table that had candles, and lit a small part of the rug on fire.

My dad is a firefighter, and he was there, and had the fire out almost instantly. But, remembering that this was the late 70s, the rug had a very very HIGH polyesther content. It did not so much burn, and MELT.

They never did replace the rug, just moved the furniture around, and I know this, because years later, I lived in my Nana's house after she passed away, while my mother and her brother sold the house.

My aunt the nun was fine, and a few years later, kicked her alcohol problem, and is still going strong at 79 years old!
