Hi all!
My DH and I are taking my parents and younger brother and sister (20yo and 18yo) to DW next year! My DH and I go almost every year :lovestruc but this will be their first time!!

However, this is a bit of a budget trip in the food area for them, since there are 4 of them so I'm trying to do some planning ahead. We are staying off site and have a kitchen so we will eat breakfast in the room, and we are going to do a TS each day as our big meal.

But my question is, for lunch, what are some sharable CS meals we could split? None of them are big meal eaters so they don't need huge meals to fill up and we plan on bringing in snacks in case we get hungry before dinner. (And I mean I expect to get like 3 meals between the 6 of us to share).

Any suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!:sunny::tink:

IMO most of the QS portions at WDW are pretty large for people who are not huge eaters so I'd just go get what you want and share away.

But if you're talking about QS meals that are massive, some of them are:

MK: Pecos Bills platters
Casey's footlong hot dogs are TREMENDOUS, I'd say bigger than 2 regular hot dogs and they give a mountain of fries.
Cosmic Ray's 1/2 rotisserie chicken

AK: Flame tree bbq - combo platters are quite large

Epcot: Tangierine Cafe platters are quite large too

But please note that a lot of these "shareables" are nearly double the price of smaller qs meals if you just feel like having 6 chicken nuggets or a salad or something so it's not a HUGE moneysaver. A few $$ but it's not like you're getting 1/2 of a rotisserie chicken for the price of nuggets... its' $14.49 for the chicken vs. $8.49 for 6 nuggets... it's $11.49 for 10 which would be plenty to share though!

A lot of the qs places have photos of the meals so you can see if it looks big and is closer to $15 than under $10, it probably IS big... I find Disney QS portions to be quite massive.

Also check out kid menus too if people can't agree to share, the portions and prices are more reasonable.

DH and I love splitting the fajita plate at Pecos Bill. We hail from the land of tex-mex, and we think it is pretty decent, especially with the fixins bar.

Wow! Thank you! This is all awesome.

I never even thought about doing the kids meals but that is a great idea! Thank you!
The kids braised pork at BOG or any kids flatbread pizza are two options that come to mind as being a fine portion for an adult--plus a beverage is included in the price. I also would have been happy to share the salmon platter at CCH.

At the Satu'li Canteen in Animal Kingdom, we got the Combination bowl and split it (me and my DH). It was very good and splitting it was enough for lunch. Now, I *could* have eaten the whole thing!

My husband and I have split many meals. But we have split two meals, in the past.

I had an ulcer earlier this year and somehow I am eating a fraction of what I used to eat. So, I am looking at kid's meals and sharable meals as well.

I am a big fan of kid's meals at Disney if I want a smaller portion. My 11 yo and 14 yo aren't big eaters and DH and I try to not overdo it on vacation for ourselves either. I prefer kids meals to sharing because I don't always want to eat the same thing someone else does, so splitting a meal can get aggrivating when the 11 yo wants chicken nuggets for the third lunch in a row and I don't. Another trick we have is to split an adult meal or order a kid meal, and add an additional side item (for instance split a flatbread with the 11 yo and add a side salad for a few dollars).

My favorite kids or sharable meals:
Any kid's menu with a hot dog/ burger/ chicken sandwich/ nuggets- this will be enough for an adult

Epcot
Kids meal- Empanadas at La Cantina de San Angel (2 empanadas, tortilla chips and cheese, drink and dessert for 7.99- sometimes I'll add a side of refried beans to share for an extra $2)
Sharable meal- Taco trio at La Cantina de San Angel (13$, I usually have 2 tacos and 11 yo has 1. If we order drinks and an extra side of beans it's closer to $20 but that's only $10 per person)
Yorkshire fish and chips is also sharable- they give you a lot of fries
Sunshine Seasons also has a lot of options, and many of them are sharable and they have a lot of kid-size portions of adult meals available.
Pizza at Via Napoli is also a shareable option

Magic Kingdom:
Be our Guest- I split a sandwich with 11 yo (either the French Dip or the Croque Monsieur) and sometimes I'll order a soup to go with mine (still cheaper than 2 kid meals and definitely cheaper than 2 adult entrees).
Be our Guest- the kid's carved turkey sandwich is plenty for an adult.
Be our Guest- kids meals for breakfast are plenty for an adult (all entrees come with a plate of pastries for the table in addition to what is ordered), you would have to add a coffee/ tea for a few dollars if juice/ milk/ soda isn't your morning drink
Pecos Bill- pretty much any platter is enough to split
Columbia Harbor House- split the Trio Platter (can add another side of fries or veggies for 2-3$ if what comes with the trio isn't enough or if one person wants fries and the other wants veggies)

Hollywood Studios:
ABC Commissary- any of the platters are enough to share, an additional side of fries/ veggies/ cole slaw is around $3 so for around $16 you have plenty of food
Backlot Express- kids Dark Side Chicken and Waffles is a lot of food. The Adult portion is plenty to share.
Woody's Lunch Box- kid's grilled cheese is a good size for an adult

Animal Kingdom:
Flame Tree BBQ- Rib/ Chicken/ Pulled pork sampler is enough to share, or the 1/2 chicken

I do kids meals a lot, and my biggest disappointment is how few restaurants have adult-type meals at kids portions. It seems almost all restaurants have the same old things-peanut butter and jelly, chicken nuggets, pizza. Most kids are OK with that, but you'll have a hard time finding Moroccoan food on the kids menu at Tangerine Cafe, for example. I wish more restaurants did have "real" food, but I understand.

My youngest and I very often share CS meals; they are large (and if it's hot out, I cannot even come close to finishing one, much less half).

One of our favorite meals is the honey chicken at Yak & Yeti (the counter service one), with a side of chicken fried rice, and sometimes we throw in an order of egg rolls too. With that much, we never can finish it!

We also sometimes share a platter at Tangierine Cafe in Morocco - definitely too much for one of us.

We used to share the rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans at Cosmic Ray's. And the fajitas at Pecos Bills.

We find portions many places are just too much for us!

Since you are watching the budget AND have a kitchen why not make a giant hero sandwich to take with you when visiting MK (you can eat at Tom Sawyer's Island, it's peaceful and has picnic tables) or HS (don't know where to eat there but sure there's somewhere)?

Muffulettas (you can make one for 5-6 people w/ leftovers with an 8''-10" bread round), or hero of your choice.

I'm no Sherlock Holmes, but I had my "eureka!" moment when I theorize that the kids' meals are intentionally made bland to discourage adults from buying them and make them pay more for the more authentic meal. Disney got moola to make. :rotfl:

I hear you but suspect the blander kids' meals really are made for the "picky eaters". Bypassing the healthier yet intensly boring meals WDW makes available (they could do sooo much better!) you are generally left with fried foods, tons of carbs, and processed meats for children. Apparently, this is a diet some adults prefer as well.

Sadly, I think you're quite right.
