Shaping up for 2.0

I'm not totally sure about this, but I think we have few people posting here about their efforts to get in shape for PCC 2.0.

:confused3
What do the rest of you think? Have we lost some? Is the goal too far away?

Life happens. You have time, you don't have time. It all comes out in the wash.

I lost 2.4 of the 2.8 I gained after Mom died. I'm back on track!

Excellent! I mean about the weight. Right direction.
I am sorry about your mom. Hope things are settling okay, it is tough.

Between vacation week, movie festival week and my mom's funeral week, I was way off track of any really good habits.

I am doing about a one pound a week loss. A few weeks of now change, but mostly down and no up. Steady in the right direction, and ever so slow. But that is okay.

And I'm sorry about your mom.

And anything is better than a gain! Maintaining is not easy and it's important that it doesn't stress us out, because that will send us down a bad path!

hope everyone is doing well...been away from the boards for a few weeks since the hospital has been insanely busy and besides being away from the boards i have been away from a regular exercise routine....but went out and bought a new bike today and got in about 40 minutes today...its something anyway :thumbsup2

I think for some the goal is too far away. I think the more dedicated ones to making Life Changes are the ones posting. My posts are down as I don't have a lot of free time to be on the boards right now. This is our busiest time at work as we gear up for School to start on the 24th. Also, Dealing with the flood aftermath, has also caused added stress personally with my car issues and at work as many departments lost everything as a result of the damage to their buildings and are scrambling to get necessary forms and other documents reprinted.

I gained a couple of STRESS pounds last week. I have continued my walking, despite days we haven't felt like going due to the stress of dealing with the flooded vehicles and the insurance nightmares.

Everyone keep up the good work, there are going to be good and bad days.

I'm still around! I haven't been posting of late, but I've been reading along. We moved in the middle of July and then I caught the swine flu (yes, really :scared1: ), and now I'm recovering from bronchitis that it left me as a going away present. :sad2: Haven't had much time or energy for anything internet-related lately, but I've been keeping up with what everyone's been up to as much as possible.

My total loss so far is a hair shy of 20 lbs (the flu was good for about 5 of that - silver lining? lol). I'm hoping to be back posting regularly soon, but I didn't want anyone to think I'd abandoned the cause completely.

Hope everyone is well, and see you soon (if all goes well - fingers crossed!).

Caroline,

So sorry to hear about your illness - OMG the swine flu :scared1:

So glad to hear that you are on the mend and will be back DISing real soon.

Take care

Yikes about the swine flu!

I weighed in today, lost 1 lb! I'm heading back in the right direction. :goodvibes

I was doing a good steady one pound a week loss, occasional no change, and no gains.

But Thursday I listened to the evil voice and ate a Big Mag (no fries at least) and Friday I ate two free chocolate Friday chocolate bars. EVIL!!!

I am hoping that I am doing good this weekend so the Monday weigh in will be okay.

All the best to all the rest of you! :thumbsup2

Having just finished a Thin Mint Blizzard from Dairy Queen - I think only my exercising has saved my butt (literally) from gaining weight! Now - if I could just LOSE it...permanently!

Ah, yes! Exercise!

Today I biked 4 miles to the gym, did full weight workout and mile and a half on treadmill. Rode five miles to hot dog stand for lunch and back home. Enjoyed the afternoon in the air-conditioned apartment. After supper walked several miles to the shopping center, walked the inside air-conditioned perimeter of three large stores. Tried on sneakers looking for the perfect fit. All exercise, right?

Did you read the cover article in the recent Time magazine? It said that you can't lose weight by exercising! You have to cut calories. Well, yeah... The author seemed to think that exercising makes you hungry and will cause you to eat more. He does still say that exercise has many health benefit, but won't make you lose weight.

Well, I am still going to keep moving! Hope you all join me.

<< While I was writing this, the advertisement at the top (I don't remember what it was!) blanked out and a Weight Watchers ad appeared. Huh?! >>

I am very impressed with all of your activities today! Keep up the good work. :)

I saw the Time article, and I don't agree with it. I haven't noticed that exercise makes me hungrier. But when I do exercise, it makes me feel better about myself and want to eat foods that are good for me - in spite of the Blizzard I had tonight! One can certainly lose weight without exercising, but you'll look and feel better if you do.

But when I do exercise, it makes me feel better about myself and want to eat foods that are good for me.

YES!
Exercise makes me more aware of my body. I don't want to un-do whatever good I have done exercising by eating unhealthy foods. Well, at least it makes me think about it. I still do sometimes, of course.

On another podcast I listen to, Motivation to Move", he says "I work out so I can go out". But he means a light beer at his favorite Outback Steak House, not the blooming onion!

Yesterday was weigh in. I am back down to my Pre-car flood weight. Now just keep the scale moving in that direction. I've lost my walking partner as they have changed her hours. I am now walking solo to Dis Unplugged Archived shows.

This is the busy time at work as we get ready for Fall Semester to start next week. We are getting invaded by clueless College Freshman.

Someone at church who had not been aware of my exercising/Shaping up, noticed my weight loss yesterday. :woohoo:

YIPPEEE!!!! That is great!

I keep hoping for the day that someone will notice. I am only truly sorry that my mother didn't get the chance. For years she would tell me, "Get the weight off. The sooner the better. Any health problem or surgery is worse with more weight". I really wanted to show her that I was getting better.

She knows.... :littleangel:

Oh & BTW - I stayed the same this past week. Looking back though - I'm surprised I did -

I am really enjoying and being inspired by this book :goodvibes
Younger Next Year for Women: Live Strong, Fit, and Sexy - Until You're 80 and Beyond by Chris Crowley and Henry S. Lodge M.D. M.D.
They also wrote Younger Next Year: Live Strong, Fit, and SexyUntil You're 80 and Beyond, more aimed at men.

It is aimed at women in mid-life, fifties. Helps them prepare for the "next third of their life". Their idea is that you are probably going to live into your seventies or eighties. But you can chose to be fit and live a fully functioning life longer. You can put off 70 percent of the normal problems of aging - weakness, sore joints, bad balance - and eliminate 50 percent of serious illness and injury.

It is both scientific (no whoo hoo or mumble jumble) and inspirational.

I am going to adopt the seven rules. :thumbsup2

Harry’s Rules
1. Exercise six days a week for the rest of your life.
2. Do serious aerobic exercise four days a week for the rest of your life
3. Do serious strength training, with weights, two days a week for the rest of your life.
4. Spend less than you make.
5. Quit eating crap.
6. Care.
7. Connect and commit.

Good luck with finding your own way!

Thanks for the book recommendation, Lyn. My grandma was 4 months shy of her 100th birthday when she died, and she kept active until the last few months of her life. My mom, on the other hand, was never active, and she found it harder and harder to get around as she got older - even in her own home. She lived a long life and died at age 83 in January, but she lived with a lot of pain in her later years. I want to age like my grandma and not like my mom.

Maingal love Harry's rules to live by.
I have not been doing so well in the excercise dept. of late.
What with kids and going north to the cottage every weekend, trying to get things ready for the back to school day, :yay::yay::yay: and trying to plan a 1 week get away with the family before school begins I have my hands full.

However my sister keeps telling me you wouldn't start your day without showering or brushing your teeth so you shouldn't go a day without excerising. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I don't shower until after I exercise. Some days I am just getting out of the shower when my husband gets home from work! :rotfl:
