Day 6 at the Fort-

Today was bittersweet. It was a gorgeous day....89 and bright and sunny. Being our last day we all were already feeling sad and wanted the day to last as long as possible !! :sad1:

We didn't get up and get moving since we got to bed so late last night (after the rain and midnight showers). Chad really wanted to take the kids to see the ocean, so we drove to Cocoa Beach. It took about 50 minutes each way. We drove all the way and only stayed about 45 minutes because we wanted to get back here, lol. The kids were impressed by the ocean though and had fun playing along the shore in the waves. They also collected some pretty shells.:cool2:

We got back and had a late lunch at the Lodge again. I am going to miss that pizza...I think I have gained 10 pounds this week !! It was much busier over there...lots of people around the pool because it was so nice today. After lunch Katie and I each rented a kayak while Chad, Cassie and Jack went fishing at the 1800 loop canal area. They caught about 10 bluegills. Katie and I really enjoyed the kayaking. It was quiet and peaceful. I wish they had given us a map or something though, we had no idea where we were going. Luckily we did end up finding the canal section near our site so we could say hi to the rest of the family. One section of the canal was really narrow and shallow. I was a little worried about getting through. There was also a lot of tree branched, slimy gunk and other stuff. I was so worried about falling in and getting that nasty water all over me !! It looks MUCH prettier over at the meadows !!

Katie and I got back to the site and she went fishing while Cassie and I took Finn for another walk. We have been all over the 4 pet loops in our area. Our skittish dog is finally getting used to the sounds of other people I think. He walked really well.

We went to Mickey's Backyard BBQ at 6:30. It was just "ok". None of us were impressed by the food and it was pretty crowded. We had to get seats all the way towards the back. The kids dances a little bit and were ready to leave by 7:30. I have no idea how long it usually lasts, but we didn't mind leaving early. The girls rode off on their bikes for awhile and Chad, Jack and I went off on the golf cart and drove through the rest of the loops I hadn't seen yet. We met back at the campfire sing along and the songs were exactly the same as the other night. We stuck around anyway and all had fun until a guy with a cigar sat next to us....yuck !! And there was another little boy noisily throwing rocks all over the bleacher seats and it was getting pretty annoying. :headache:

We didn't stay for the movie. Instead we finally headed to the Trading Post for some shopping !! I bought too much stuff but I couldn't make up my mind. I found a great picture frame and photo album. The kids each got to pick out one special treasure too. ::yes::

To top off our last night, we went to the Swimming Hole pool. The water was really warm after 2 almost 90 degree days. There were only a few people there. Chad and I played in the pool with the kids for about an hour and a half. I wish they provided pool towels. And I was surprised they didn't have showers to rinse off before and after swimming. We got back to the site about 11:00 and the kids were sleeping in 20 minutes.

We ended up with some extra DDP meals, so we are going to go to Trails End for the breakfast buffet and then come back and very reluctantly pack up camp. I don't want to go home !! We did decide to come back Thanksgiving '08. It's a whole year and a half away...I wish it was sooner, but we have too many other trips planned between now and then. The last time we came to FL over Thanksgiving we had really nice weather too. By then the kids will be 14.5, 12 and almost 8 !! Yikes !! We want to do Animal Kingdom, Epcot and make it over to MK to see the parade we missed last night. Is it too soon to be excited about coming back ??
:goodvibes

I know exactly that feeling you're having Shannone. We were just there in March for 4 days. Before we actually checked in we stayed at another campground near Universal and drove to the fort and parked at the overflow lot and took a bus to the Settlement and then the boat to MK. I was so excited to be at the fort even though we weren't even checked in yet.

I can't wait to get back in June. Have a safe trip back home. I'll bet the kids talk about this trip for a while lol.

Shannone, I've really enjoyed reading your posts all week. Thanks for taking the time to write them. They made me feel like I was there all over again. I'm so sorry you're having to pack up and leave today. That's the worst feeling. But it sounds like you had a wonderful vacation and truly made the most of your time there. As for waiting a year and half, just think about all the joyful anticipation you'll experience for those months!

Well I read this after I read about your extra day added to your trip, so I didn't have to feel sad that you were leaving...lol.

Sounds like you fit a lot into your "last" day though, glad the weather is finally turning in your favor.

The canals used to be A LOT grimier and dirty, full of green slime. They have really cleaned them up as of late, although there are still some parts that, as you mentioned, you really don't want to fall into.

I love that Trading Post, one of the first places we go when we get to the Fort to see what's new since the last trip.

Have fun on your extra day!!!

Thanks so much for writing everyday! I read all of the updates and it makes me look foward to Oct and our first trip to FW!!!
