Shamrock Shake @ McDonalds

My kids have had them, but I haven't. I haven't had one in YEARS. I like them, but I can't bring myself to consume that many calories in a milkshake. We rarely consume fast food- but Shamrock Shake time, the kids are begging me to go through the drive-thru!:rotfl2:

I don't like cherries (not maraschino (sp) style anyway) so I ask for them to leave it off, I do like the whipped cream tho. :) I adore Shamrock Shakes, and I'm extremely proud of ME for only having had 1 so far this year. :) Part of that is because I don't really like McD's food and I only have a 30 min. lunch so there's not really enough time to go to McD's for the shake and somewhere else for actual food. :) But, I'm hoping to have another one before they are gone. Anyone know how long they usually stick around? I don't pay that much attention because usually I have had more than 1 by now. lol

I haven't had one. I don't like McD's "shakes." Dd14 does generally like them, and she thought it was nasty--way too sickly sweet.

Yup. And I'm so glad that this year they've FINALLY decided to do right by their customers and offer Shamrock Shakes at nearly ALL locations. No more trying to hunt down the 1 out of 100 McDonald's that serves them.

Yes, I went in for a filet-o-fish and I was shocked to see then finally back and that I could find them everywhere. I've had 4 in this last month. :shamrock: :thumbsup2

Shamrock Shakes have been a staple of my St. Patrick's Day Season eating. Unfortunately, McDonald's has ruined the experience a bit by adding whipped cream and a cherry?!?!?

I'm sorry, but as a lifelong fan of the green, minty, goodness, don't mess with my shake! Put in back in the opaque, wax-coated McD's cup, and leave the whipped cream and cherry to those hipster caramel mocha drinks! :rotfl:

You can ask them not to put the whipped cream on. I forgot one and it was not the same. For one, the whipped cream is an awful version of Cool Whip. :crazy2:

I used to LOVE the Shamrock Shakes. Not so much anymore. They aren't mixed properly now, and they have streaks of plain white ice cream in them.

I prefer the home-made version now. A good-quality vanilla ice cream, milk, peppermint extract and a little green food coloring. Much closer to the "old" Shamrock Shakes than what McDonald's is selling now.

I never get ice cream. If I got a pint, I'd end up eating it all. That would be worse than the 550 calories of one shake.

To be honest, I don't even remember what the old ones used to taste like, it's been so long since I've been able to track the darn things down.

Me too. It's been DECADES since I've had one. I'm happy they are back.

I had not had one in years and pulled into the driveup today to get one. It was over the top sweet and much greener than I remember, would not get another one. My husband took one sip of his shake and tossed it in the trash bag!

Tomorrow is my DD's birthday. :) She's having a sleepover and I would love to make this treat for her and her friends. Can you please tell me exact measurements for your homemade version? Thank you.

I allow myself to enjoy 1 Shamrock Shake a year. I broke down and had mine today. It's the only McDonald's shake I like, but it's my all time favorite shake anywhere.:goodvibes

How? All the recipes I've seen call for two (sometimes three) cups of ice cream. Well except those two healthy alternatives. Anyway, how can a pint of ice cream be worse than a pint of ice cream plus additional ingredients? :teeth:

I haven't had one in years, and I don't think our kids have ever had one! We stopped at a McDs to order them last weekend, and the shake machine was broken. :sad1: We're busy today, so I'm hoping that the shakes will still be available next week.

I love Shamrock shakes, but the last time I went I asked for half chocolate, half shamrock---MERCY! It was PHENOMENAL!

I've never had a McDonald's mint shamrock shake..BUT the girl in the commercial is Hot so I'll go try one tomorrow. Ha Ha:rotfl2:

I had bought my boys a shamrock shake several weeks ago and I had a sip of it didn't care for it.

But today I made Grasshoppers for our St. Patrick's Day treat. YUM!:thumbsup2
