adobe after capture has some of the most amazing ideas...one this month is about turning a photo into a beautiful water color( think it uses painter from corel?) , b&w suggestions, one on cow photos( ),,,really even if it cost money it would imo be worth it! if you haven't gotten the free sub www.aftercapture.com

PAint SHop Pro Photo X2 has some of those actions built in, watercolor, wet water color..black and white pencil, black and white sketch

I'm pretty sure that the latest version of GIMP (2.4.2 I think) also has alot of the same scripts. I will check out the mag though.
