First Family Trip to Disney

Me – Catherine 37, chief planner
DH – Jeff 37, appreciates my planning and claims that I have as much fun planning the trip as I do taking the trip
DD – Lena 5, 1st trip to Disney. She is very excited to visit Disney and is really looking forward to seeing Nanny and Poppa.

This is our first trip as a family to Florida. I visited the Disney parks a number of times as a child with my family. My husband and I went for our honeymoon in March 1997. Then we went again in May 2001 before moving to the arctic. We still live in the arctic; Iqaluit, Nunavut in Canada.

When I started planning this trip last winter we were going to stay with my Mom and Dad at their winter home in Dade City and drive over to the Disney Parks on various days during our 3 week vacation. We will arrive in Florida on Saturday, January 23, 2010 and leave on Friday, February 12, 2010.

However a couple of weeks ago our plans changed a bit. We decided that driving that much would be a waste of time.

We decided to splurge and we have booked a Tower Magic Kingdom View room at the Contemporary from Jan 25th – Feb 1st. We also purchased the 8 day park hopper passes and the Deluxe Dining Plan. I have wanted to stay at the Contemporary since I was a little kid and we rode the monorail through the hotel.

After unsuccessfully trying a number of times on the 25th I had no trouble booking all of my rssies yesterday online

This is the plan:

January 25th, Monday – Mom and Dad drive us over to Orlando and spend the day
•Check in at the Contemporary to get our tickets, etc.
•Visit Downtown Disney to do some shopping – Must do - Goofy’s Candy Co., Once Upon a Toy (Pony – Fill a Box), Days of Christmas, Ghirardelli
•Eat at Boston Feast (Opens 4pm) -
•Mom and Dad drop us off at the Hotel
•Look around the hotel
•Ride the Monorail Resort Loop
•Watch the Fireworks from the Balcony
•Go to bed early

January 26th, Tuesday – Magic Kingdom
7:15am Breakfast – Chef Mickey
11:35am Lunch – Character Liberty Tree Tavern
5:35pm Supper – Narcoossee’s
Snacks we look forward to trying: Cream cheese pretzels and Dole Whip.

January 27th, Wednesday – DHS in the morning then hop MK by 5pm for Spectromagic at 7pm
Breakfast – Hotel
11:00am Lunch - 50’s Prime Time Cafe
Supper – Pecos Bill’s
Snacks we look forward to trying: Spicy Cheese Pretzels

January 28th - Thursday – Epcot in the morning then hop to DHS by 3pm for Fantasmic at 6:30pm
8:00am Breakfast Norway Princess Storybook
11:35am Lunch – Coral Reef
4:10pm Supper – Sci-Fi Diner
Snacks we look forward to trying: School Bread and Build-A-Cup at Cool Club

January 29th – Friday - Animal Kingdom in the morning then hop to Epcot for supper & Illuminations
8:05am Breakfast Donald Safari
11:30am Lunch - Yaki & Yeti
5:40pm Supper – Japan – Teppan Edo
Snacks we look forward to trying: frozen banana

January 30th – Saturday – Magic Kingdom
8:25am Breakfast – Cinderella’s Castle
11:30am Lunch – Tony’s Town Square
5:15pm Supper – Ohana Polynesian Dinner

January 31st – Sunday – Epcot in the morning then hop to MK after supper
8:10am Breakfast – GF – 1900 Park Fare
11:35am Lunch – Le Cellier
5:10pm Supper - Garden Grill

February 1st – Monday
8:10am Breakfast – Chef Mickey
Mom and Dad pick us up by 11:00am – Check-Out
Stop at DTD to shop and eat lunch - Use up left-over snack/meal credits

We are going to play it by ear, we may go back to the room to freshen up and rest a bit before supper some days. Most night we plan to watch wishes from our balcony so DD5 can be in bed by 8:30pm. Usually she goes to bed at 7:30pm so we're hoping for some afternoon naps
