shake at Sci Fi Dine in - still a drink?

I remember back in the day (like 2010 lol) when I first looked into DDP people were reporting that a shake at Sci Fi Dine in counted as a drink.

Is that still the case? and is it the case for kiddos?

If I were to get a shake, could I sub my dessert for a side salad there?

thanks!

We were able to get one as our drink last time we were on the DDP in 2014, however it is only for adults. Kids 9 and under ordering off the kids menu were not allowed to get a shake as their beverage.

Well I can at least get it and give it to my kid I'd guess :) because I'm that kind of a mom. I would not want both shake and dessert anyway but my kid loves his shakes :)

Absolutely! This is what I have done with our DD the last few trips since she was our only family member still on the kids menu, especially with QS meals. This year she will be 10 and our entire family will be officially Disney adults and she is so excited to finally be able to order off the adult menu and get what ever she wants, like the rest of us :)

Yes with QS I'm sure there will be much sharing going on and that's fine with me! Actually I was wondering if I could swap my drink for a shake and give it to kiddo (I did this last time I was there... didn't swap, I was paying all OOP but ordered him the fruit for dessert and I ate that and bought him a shake with his meal) and get a nice side salad for myself with dinner and then order a grownup oreo shake for me OOP. Honestly I'd rather have a shake than anything on the dessert menu. That said if they will let me swap dessert and drink both for shakes then I will get two shakes and a meal and be more than happy!

I haven't been there since they implemented the switching desserts to a side deal on the DDP, but I have read that they are allowing people to do this. It may just come down to who is working when you are there. That being said I don't think you should have any issue with doing what you are planning, and I am sure if you told them that you are ordering the shake as your beverage, but wanting to give it to your kiddo as his dessert they would wait to bring it to him whenever you are ready for him to have it. What we have done in the past is ordered a shake as a bev on the adult plan, and ordered another shake as the dessert, and just our server bring out all shakes at the same time, as dessert, and we just drank water with our meal.

They allowed both my son (adult) and daughter (5) to order shakes as drinks at Sci-Fi breakfast. We were on the DxDDP.

yeah that is kind of my plan. Honestly I'd rather have a shake myself than any of the desserts (not a big dessert person but a milkshake is a once in a blue moon indulgence that I love!) I'd let him have his shake with meal... after all, it's vacation!!!!!!
