When I was talking to a cast member last week, I was told that the whole Shadowlands idea was raising its head again and in view of MK so that Malefients Castle would be in sight of Cindy's. Also that Disney was looking into adding a Disney Seas park. Both of these would be soooooooo cool but I'm not holding my breath. Let's hope that Iger is looking at these seriously.

Personally I believe "shadowland" should be built behind Fantasyland....

Ok I know some of you are thinking.... ummm there are buildings and a road back there.... But beyond that there is space available (where you can see the Indian settlement on the WDW railroad.

Also another spot would be dismantling Toon town and expanding beyond the railroad like space mountain... .THERE IS PLENTY of land (roughly the size of Tomorrowland) before hitting a road then eventually the "Graveyard of equipmen"

I've been hearing this rumor too...I think it would add a whole new dimension to the WDW resort and give it a great facelift, something Animal Kindgom failed to do.

Here's hoping!

Okay, Animal Kingdom is awesome but that's not important right now... :thumbsup2

The Shadowlands idea is something that has been around so long, that it almost seems like they will eventually do because the idea just keeps popping up.

As far as DisneySea goes, it makes alot of sense here, considering the ease with which bodies of water can be made in the area. It also ooks extremely cool, to say the least.

Having said all that, the priority is to turn MGM and Ak into "full-day" parks, something many don't believe they are. After that is acheived, you will see the expansion. Of the two, Shadowlands which seems based on a thrill ride platform, is probably next. Disny wants to finish off Universal once and for all and Universal's new ad campaign will certainly egg them on

What in the world is Shadowland??? :confused3

Ummm, I think I've got the general gist of what Shadowlands would be. Yeah, I am thinking that it might be a better idea for MGM... perhaps developed within sightline of Fantasmic? That could be cool.. Mickey battling the Villians to keep them all in Shadowland! Whoa!

In a nutshell, a new "fifth" park that was mentioned in surveys a couple years ago, and also by Jim Hill, IIRC. It would be themed to the Disney Villians, sort of a "dark" version of the Magic Kingdom, with Maleficiant's castle (I'm sure I misspelled that, the witch from Sleeping Beauty) at its center.

Most rumors also indicated that it would be largely devoted to thrill rides, basically making it Disney's answer to Islands of Adventure (and the most "teen friendly" of all the parks).

Keep in mind, like all rumors, there was a lot of variance. For example, it was also suggested this would be only a land in MK. While I am definitely intrigued by the idea, I take all Shadowlands rumors with a grain of salt.

Thanks, I know what we are talking about now. I just never heard that it had a specific name, just a "Disney Villans" park

The Shadowlands was not just suggested as a villans park, it has also been alongstanding rumor as a new land in the magic Kingdom. Personally, I think it makes more sense to have Maleficent's castle in DisneyLAND for obvious reasons, but then it was never for sure that a castle would be part of it. It was originally going to center on Villians mountain which was to have been built in the 20K sub area.

So you think Disney wants to spend a couple hundred million dollars in expanding just because a girl on a TV ad said shes gonna hurl if she hugs another princess?

:rotfl2:

Yeah, I don't see a desperate attempt to mock Disney as somethign they need to respond to.

I like DAK more than the Studios, so there. How come you no like DAK?

I think they want to spend a couple of hundred million dollars on DAK and the Studios to increase attendance at those parks. As dbm20th says, the ticket sales on those parks are well below MK and Epcot. Especially, single day passes. I think they would like to boost sales of those. I believe the execs have said thats a proirity over new parks. I think you'll see a fresh slat of smaller attractions at those parks to help fill out a day.

Besides, as we all know, Disney and Universal are battling for tourists. I'm sure they're not mad because of the girl who hates princesses. (I wish I was hugging some princesses but thats another story). Its just another cannon shot over the bow as they say.

Yeah, that's exactly what I said :scratchin

No, it was a goofy way of saying that Universal is taking on Disney by angling themselves as the thrill-park and Disney as the baby park. Shadowlands could put a end to that notion very quickly, assuming of course that it is focused on thrill rides

It's not that I dislike DAK, it just never really grabbed my attention. I enjoy the safari and parts of tough to be a bug, but the whole Dino area and Planetwatch are just not for me. Though I am quite sad that Tarzan Rocks is gone. :worried:

I like the Studios; but I have a degree in theatre and really enjoy the architecture and Hollywood-esque themeing. It's more up my alley.

I will admit that neither is a real great day at Disney, more half days each right now.

Funny though, I don't like thrill rides, so why Shadowlands appeals to me I don't know! I just want to see it! :rotfl2:

MJMcBride, you rock as always!!!

While Shadowlands as a "villians park" has always had a lot more thrill rides in the stories I have heard, there would also be other rides as well. I can't see it has a land inside Magic Kingdom as all Disney parks are built around one centerpiece icon and not two. Having 2 large castles would look unbalanced. But if you could see it in the distance (like the neighboring kingdom) it would be kinda cool.

The issues are the dough it would cost to develop all those thrill rides, the size and if there is enough content to keep it interesting. Would there be enough to do or would people get bored/do half day like MGM?

It would be no more distracting then the Matterhorn.

I always thought it would work well as a mountain and when viewed from Frontierland it looked like part of the mountain range. When viewed from Fantasyland though, it would be evil and forboding.

To add more fuel to this fire.

Recently Raluso and company have been pushing hard for any and every idea possible to resurrect DCA. One of those ideas was sort of a mirror of Disneyland where mainstreet USA is the mainstreet of the fifties instead of the turn of the century.

I could see a Villians castle as the centerpiece to this. Though, I can't imagine this would ever happen as I just stated. It would require too much gutting.
