he is like sonic the hedgehog only he is black.
He is really cool.

Aaaah, DD just informed me that Shadow is a baddie and is a clone of Sonic the Hedgehog (think i must be getting old )

He's not a clone of sonic, just his counterpart. No-one actually knows if shadow is a clone of another animal, a robot or a just an anthropromorphic creature like sonic! Hopefully, the new game should explain a lot.

Also, he is not nessecarily a baddie; he only thinks he was built to destroy everything (little did he know that his memories were faked)

* WARNING DON'T READ IF YOU HATE SPOILERS *

Well, Shadow was introduced in the game "Sonic adventure 2" in which he was the result of an experiment known as Project Shadow, done on the Space Colony ARK. The project was shut down 50 years ago (In the game) for fears that they were creating weapons of mass destruction onboard. Shadow is sent to earth by one of the scientist's grandchildren called Maria Robotnik, and is captured by the government and kept in a secret base, until he is activated by the Villian Dr. Eggman AKA Dr. Robotnik. Shadow gives him One wish, AKA of global conquest as he feels that his one purpose was to destory the earth.

After going through the story quite a bit, Shadow releases when the Space Colony ARK is about to crash into the earth that he was actually built to SAVE the earth. He decides to save the earth by powering up with sonic. He crashes to the earth however, perhaps due the fact he has completed his purpose.

Everyone thinks he is dead, until he found at another secret facilty, this one run by Eggman. He has no memory and he discovers another 1000 shadows are discovered, which leads him to asking who is he and where does he come from?

The Shadow the hedgehog Game should explain his past, although with a few other things.
