If any of y'all have been to both of these, which would you suggest? We're going to DW 12/5-12/10 staying at BWV. Then a friend decided they wanted to join us 12/5-12/8. I waitlisted all DVC places and were able to find them room at Shades of Green (we're all military). However, I just got a call that a waitlist opening came through at VWL. I think we should take it and drop SOG, but my dh thinks SOG would be the nicer resort. I think both transportion and ambiance (Christmas deco) puts VWL ahead. Any and ALL HELP would be appreciated!

I'm sure SOG is nice, but I can assure you that WL is all together nicer. It is very special at Christmas.

People like the new SOG but I can't imagine it EVER being as lovely as the Wilderness Lodge. If the cost is close, I'd go for the Lodge. The Xmas decorations are amazing and the transportation options are better. The rooms, however, are probably larger at SOG... My hubby stayed there as a kid when it was the Golf Resort, and his family really enjoyed it. But it's hard to top the beauty of the WildernessLodge!

I would say VWL at any time of the year but have to say that during the holiday time, nothing comes close to the VWL.

I've never seen SOG but I can say with 100% certainty it won't compare to WL at Christmas time. The WOW factor is off the scale.

And while we're on the subject of SOG, I have a question: Is SOG open to the general public as far as using the restaurants, exploring the grounds, shopping, pool hopping, etc....... or is it treated like a military reservation requiring military ID ?

I have stayed at WL at Christmas, and it is magical at that time of year, but, even though I haven't stayed at the SOG since 1992 (and I understand it has just gone through a major renovation), if I could still stay at SOG, I would. That was such a great benefit to military service. JMHO.

We stayed at SOG this June and it is very nice and does have a lodge feel to it, but VWL is waaay nicer. I have not stayed at VWL yet, but we visited and took the tour of the Villas. DS's and I will be there this Dec. too!

I stayed at SOG with my bro in law a week after he returned from cuter(SP).. This is when I bought my DVC membership and my sis and bro in law decided to do the same after we all went over to SR.. Anyway ,Sog is alsome. My only complaint, buses.. Slow. and you have to go to the ticket and transpertation to get to MK or Epcot .. Oh well the price was right ..

SOG was the Disney Inn when I stayed there. It was a deluxe. It has the largest regular rooms at WDW. It slept 5 which was what we needed. At the time I would stay no where else. I haven't seen it since it was sold but the room size must be the same. The price must be considered here also. The military get a great deal. However, if price is not a problem then WLV would get my vote, not the WL because there rooms are too small but the DVC villas are nice and so is the main lodge at WL.

how much are you paying at SOG - if it is between $69 and $119 - stay with it.

I am sure your husband and you can find something else to do with your points....

My vote is for SOG. It's awsome! Everyone keeps saying how the VWL is so much nicer at christmas time, has anyone been to SOG at Christmas time to compare it?!

SoG was beautiful last December. There were decorated trees in every hallway corner, and the lobby/main area was beautifully decorated. There were wreaths on the walls. It was very nice, and classy. I own at VWL/BCV and love both also. SoG is cheaper and the rooms are huge(atleast in the old section) I never had a problem with the bus (never more than a 15 min. wait). So if it's a huge difference in $$, I'd stay at SoG. Plus, eating at SoG is a nice also.
