SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

There was an announcement today that parking lots A - G will close today for construction of the 2nd parking ramp. The SOG bus stop is considered lot E. Does anyone know where the bus stop will be relocated?

Ok I need to also know this. We check in January 2!

My sister checks in on dec 10th (bay lake towers then the SOG)
She bought the 4 day hopper special at her base a few months ago, I linked them to the Disney experience and have all our fast passes.
It says on the tickets that we must stop by guest services at Hollywood studios, epcot, animal kingdom or the ticket and transportation center before we use our magic bands. When I was there last weekend I asked at at ticket booth and they said any ticket booth is fine ... Does anyone know if that is true

In the past I have activated them at the Hollywood Studios ticket booth, the ticket booth at the TTC and at Guest Services at DTD. Hope that helps.

I thought I saw somewhere that SOG was going to be using Magic Bands sometime in the future and can't find that post now. Am I correct? Do you know if that will change the scheduling of FPs from 30 to 60 days out?

So I just saw on the SoG bus schedule that the new bus stop at Downtown Disney is #8 behind Cirque. I didn't know there were bus stops there. Booo.

Any info on construction of the Mickey Pool? When we were there in October it appeared to be moving fairly quickly--just wondering as we'll be there again in May. Thanks

I would "like" Shades of Green on Facebook. They post pictures every few weeks on the construction. It looks really cool and I would think it will be open by May.

I happened upon what I consider a great Christmas find. I have been seeking Elsa doll for my granddaughter. Reasonable sources (walmart) unavailable online, nothing within 50 miles. I finally ordered QVC, but couldn't guarantee shipment.
Last night I wandered into the SOG exchange and found toddle Elsa and the baby Elsa best price yet. My granddaughter is going to be so excited. I know I am!

No Shades of Green isn't a Disney owned or operated resort so there aren't any plans to be included the Disney Magic Bands or change to 60 days out for Fastpass reservations.

You can independently purchase a Magic Band at the Disney Parks and link your park ticket if you'd like the convenience of using a band to enter the park and swiping for Fastpass access to rides rather than your plastic park ticket.

Does anyone know if the SOG has cribs upon request. If there are cribs is there a fee and what is the weight limit for the crib? I googled the standard limit on newer cribs and most are set at 50 lbs. My sister and her family will be staying at the SOG next month. We will be bringing an air mattress but this will be the first time her daughter will not be in a crib, so I want a back up plan just incase.

Shades of Green has the option of a crib, pack'n'play or even rails to be installed on the sides of the bed so children don't roll out of bed. You can call reservations and have a request put on your room reservation so it will be in the room on arrival or request when you get there. Sorry I don't know about the weight restriction, however I believe the cribs are metal and pretty sturdy.

Just got home from a week at Shades. It was wonderful. Wonderful things:
Asked for 2nd floor Palm and got it!
Every staff member was polite and greeted us.
Free cookies, hot chocolate, egg nog, etc 2 nights of our week. Amazing sugar cookies :thumbsup2
Actual bar soap provided and a hotel size bottle of shampoo/conditioner. No more wall dispenser.
Nice new buses.
It was easy to link our tickets with Guest Services. We each had 2 4 day military salute tickets and they activated all 8 days at once on a Disney ticket.

As much as I thought I'd complain about the new bus parking at DTD... it wasn't that bad. There is a nice quiet sidewalk along the entire west end that takes you to the bus stop so you don't have to fight the crowds. Disney resorts only have one bus stop by Marketplace and ours is at the other far end. Worked fine for us. If you go to the DTD map and see the bus stop behind Cirque.

Last year we used the AFS tickets and I know we have to go get them activated at a park or DowntownDisney before using them. My question is - now that SOG sends us the ticket numbers 30 days ahead so we can make FP+ reservations, how does that work with those AFS tickets? Can we still get the numbers and make FP even though we aren't there to activate them yet? Then do we just pick them up and activate them when we get there like before?
We actually have Magic Bands from a previous trip so I will be linking them to the Magic Bands as well. I guess I am just wondering if I will be able to do all that ahead of time before they are activated??
thanks!

You have it right. When you order your tickets, ask them to email you your ticket numbers. You can download them into MDE and pick out your FP. When you arrive and pick up your tickets, you activate them the way you have before.

This thread is very helpful! We are planning a trip in late June or July timeframe once we figure out leave dates. These magic bands and FP+ are new to me. We last went to Disney in 2011 (stayed at SOG then) so I'm checking these boards to gain insight on this system! I haven't reserved a room or bought park hoppers yet, still in the planning process. We are thinking of staying at SOG again his trip, and also I might consider a split and do 2 days at WL but then again it sounds inconvenient without a car. Are there taxis available from SOG able to pick up to go between hotels and anyone have an idea on the cost? I'm just curious, not even sure if I'll want to change hotels with kids and packing back up involved. Last time in 2011 we rented a car for a week, I never really paid attention to taxi service.

We did a split stay between SOG and POR in December and did not rent a car. We used a taxi to change hotels. We called the SOG front desk the morning we were changing to POR to request a taxi. They wouldn't call for us but provided the number for Mears for us to make the call. The fare to travel between SOG and POR was a little over $10 without tip. We had budgeted $20 so just gave it all to him.

I'm so excited. Just booked 5 nites at SoG for May. It's been 8 years since our last trip.... and we'll be catching the last weekend of the Flower and Garden festival.

I know that the Poly is a walkable distance, but can anyone who has done it give me a realistic estimation of the distance..... 10 min? 20min?

Our previous trip (2006) was when I was working for one of the major airlines...and we had great discounts for the Disney hotels. We split our stay between AKL and BC. Am looking forward to this location. If SoG is anything like the Hale Koa I'll be one happy camper. :cool1:
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide

We walked it once in December. We didn't pay attention to how long it took but I'm thinking 20 minutes at a leisurely pace. That is for two adults. Once you get over to Poly then you have to wind your way through the resort to the monorail. Maybe it will be different once the construction is done. I'm not sure I could find my way through Poly to get back to the path to SOG though especially at night.

I was last at SOG in 2011 but from what I remember it was just about 10 minutes or so for me to walk to the Polynesian, I don't think it took me 20. I've been to Hale Koa, which was fabulous. We had a nice Garden View room up high with balcony. I liked the food better and expanse of hotel at Hale Koa, but it's hard to compare with a beach location. I think SOG does a great job for the price. I've been twice and enjoyed it both times. I think you'll enjoy your stay at Shades of Green!
