SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

In January, DH and I will be back and Shades and Disney -- this time we are bringing my 10 year old brother and my mom. It's my little brother's first time at Disney and he is a very picky eater. We will mainly be eating quick service or off-site meals; however, I do want to make 1-2 table-service reservations at places such as Sci-Fi, etc. My concern is the table-service menu...from what I read, the children's menu ends at age 9; however, there is NOTHING on the adult menu that he would even remotely be interesting in eating. Will we be able to request a child's menu for him even though he is 10?

We were in the same situation.. When my son was 10 we would still ask for a child's menu for him because he is so picky. However, when he was 11 , I always made reservations only after I look at the menu to see if there is something that he will eat.. (Sci Fi was an easy one for us because they have cheeseburgers.)

Thanks! We toured it on the UNDiscovered Future World tour and it would be an awesome rest stop!

I just received a reply from their FB private message and it said this: Robin, we've never carried any specialized tickets for Epcot; we only carry the regular Epcot entry passes. I am not familiar with the "Siemens Lounge" or how you would obtain tickets to it. You may want to call Disney at 407-824-2222 for that information.
I just googled it and it appears that it is only available to Siemens employees and guests and you would have to obtain some type of passcode from the Siemens website. This is interesting information, I've been here almost 15 years and didn't know this existed LOL.

I sent her the link from All Ears as well as another so we shall find out..It is funny that it say's that the passes are from Shades but Shades has no idea. :confused3 I will keep you updated..:)

I just found out that Yes, the Siemens lounge is open to our members of the Military. You need to go to the Attraction sales office to get a card with the passcode. It will be nice to enjoy a quiet spot from all the running around.. :)

So the office at Shades that sells the tickets is where to get that card ?

Yes... Just ask them for the pass code for the Siemens lounge at Epcot. I was not told of any restrictions about who could use them just that they were available to members of the military at Shades. I will be using one in February for the first time.. :goodvibes

FB page says grand re-opening of the Magnolia pool is this Friday, Nov 8th. Just in time for us to arrive on Sunday the 10th and check it out.

Looking forward to seeing the new pool when we go in December. Any thoughts as to when the other pool will start its re-surfacing and new kiddie area? I kind of hope they wait until after December. I would be very disappointed to have a "pool view" room and look at an empty pool.

You can ask on the FB page. They're pretty good about responding.

I am going to have to check out the lounge thing in Feb. Hope we can get in. DH and I saw that lounge when we went on an Epcot tour and it was very nice. Our tour guide also said it is where celebrities go to "hang out in peace" while at the park.:cool1:

And, btw, why is it my ticker never seems to change? Hmmmm...:confused3

I contacted Shades via Facebook as I was wondering the same thing. Our vacation is in mid-January. My inquiry was provided a response within a few hours: "The Magnolia Pool will be open at that time. The Mill Pond pool will be closing for renovations sometime this winter; although we do not have a set date for the closure, I would recommend planning for the pool to be closed during your visit."

So, no specific dates...but it does make me wonder if I should cancel my poolside room and rebook a regular room. We have booked an ADA poolside room for my mother's convenience. DH asked if he could reserve a specific "poolside" location and he was informed upon booking (months ago) that the ADA rooms were all on one side so it didn't matter. (And naturally, DH didn't asked which side :rotfl:) Anyhow, I really do not want to be paying poolside prices with an unavailable pool and a longer walk to the new one! Guess I will be calling Shades later today!

My husband insists that he saw a waterslide on the artist renderings of the Magnolia Pool, but now that it's open it doesn't look like there is a slide. Anyone else notice this or know anything about it?.... maybe the slide is being added later (fingers crossed).

that was probably a drawing for the other pool. :)

The artist renderings were for the Mill Pond Pool.. (AKA the Mickey pool.) They are supposed to be resurfacing that pool soon as well as add a 2 story water slide to it and a fort splash pad to the little kiddies splash pool.. The renderings sure do make it look like it will be a lot of fun..

I found the pictures of the renderings of the Mickey pool and Splash pad..:) Thanks to Steve at Military Disney Tips..

Checked in today. Weather is beautiful. Sat by the new pool for a bit. Lots of kids in it. We were handed a Siemens card with a code when we checked in so we may use it at EPCOT if we need a break. Heading to 'Ohana for dinner in a bit:thumbsup2
