SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

I faxed our ticket order form today and got a confirmation call from SOG. We leave on Halloween for FL:cool1:

They put all the furniture out around the pool yesterday, our housekeeper said the pool opens Friday. We leave Friday morning.:sad2:

According to the FB page (someone asked) the pool will not be open Friday. Furniture was put out, but they still have inspections. They didn't specify an opening date.

Do they put up a huge Christmas Tree at SOG? Lobby or anywhere else?:confused3 I have been at Christmas before but didn't remember and it was before the remodel...:santa:

DH and I were at Shades last year right after Christmas for our honeymoon and their Christmas decorations were still up and looking magical. They had a HUGE tree in the lobby that was beautiful and several little trees throughout the building. :santa:

Forgive me if this is elsewhere in the thread and I missed it. Does SoG provide bed rails for little sleepers? Alternately, are the beds movable so I could push one against the wall?

Thanks! :)

I don't think the beds are movable, but the couch (which is a pull-out bed) can probably be turned around to face the wall.

We have used bedrails at SOG! I put in the request when I called but they were never there when we arrived. One call to housekeeping, however and they were delivered pretty quickly!

I'm getting ready to book Shades for the first time. Would someone give me a better idea of where the Polynesian is located and what building I should request? I'd like the option of walking there for breakfast and would like to be as close as possible.

The Polynesian is right across the street. Not a bad walk. Long driveway to the street and nice path to the Ceremonial House. It might seem like a long walk but considering the miles you put on at the parks it's nothing :)

I just read a review on TripAdvisor and the reviewer said they had a king size bed. I've never seen them on the reservations page or heard of anyone else having one... True? Because I presonally think that there should be king size beds for us old married couples used to king size beds ;)

Would love to see a king room as well!

Has anyone here ever used the Siemens lounge at Spaceship Earth.. I have read that they offer day passes to members of the Military who purchase their tickets at Shades.(I think that you have to request them though) A nice place for a break with free drinks and from what I have read, The nicest restrooms at Epcot.. :) Still wondering if they are doing this..

On Allears.... Wow! This was from a September 2012 article. They sure don't advertise. We were there exactly one year ago :( and nobody mentioned the lounge.

Although Siemens employees and customers make up most of the guest list in the lounge, they are not the only ones who can take a break there.

"From Day 1, we have opened up the Siemens lounge to Give Kids The World (an Orlando charity that provides theme-park experiences for seriously ill children). Those families have a lot of challenges in the park, and sometimes they just need a quiet place to come and rest," he said.

Siemens also has started a new program this year in cooperation with Shades of Green, a Walt Disney World resort for military personnel. The company offers members of the Armed Forces passes to the lounge when they buy their discounted tickets at the resort. McCaskill said he sees about 25 military families visit every few days.

The Siemens VIP Center operates from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. In addition to Spaceship Earth, Siemens sponsors IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.

We would have used this if we had known. We never got any thing saying about this when we bought are tickets last year.

As far as I know, the only king beds are in the suites. I toured one of (and maybe only) suite that sleeps 8, a few years ago. It had a king bed in the bedroom. If you really want to know, I would call.

In January, DH and I will be back and Shades and Disney -- this time we are bringing my 10 year old brother and my mom. It's my little brother's first time at Disney and he is a very picky eater. We will mainly be eating quick service or off-site meals; however, I do want to make 1-2 table-service reservations at places such as Sci-Fi, etc. My concern is the table-service menu...from what I read, the children's menu ends at age 9; however, there is NOTHING on the adult menu that he would even remotely be interesting in eating. Will we be able to request a child's menu for him even though he is 10?

I am going to request a day pass on our February trip to Shades.. I will let you know if they still have it.. (Unless of course, someone here goes first and requests them.) I am curious if they offer them to just Active Duty Like Sea World does for free passes or everyone at Shades too. Maybe that is why they don't advertise it? Not sure but I will contact Shades and let you know.

Thanks! We toured it on the UNDiscovered Future World tour and it would be an awesome rest stop!
