SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

Another question.... Or two. ;)

1) Has anyone ever done the shuttle that SoG provides to go to Universal Studios? If so... Do you know approximately what time it leaves SoG and arrives at U/S? Are we the only resort on that shuttle? And do you know how late/often it runs?

2) Has Evergreens gotten any better over the years? We stayed at SoG in 2008, when Evergreens was still a legitimate sports bar with a full kitchen - and it was a great place to eat. Then at some point, they ditched the kitchen and become more of a "deli" type place with prepackaged food. It's hard to tell from their menu, it seems they might have gone back to to full kitchen? But it's hard to tell. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Thanks so much everyone!!!!

I kind of feel like there is a lot of info and questions asked over and over again and should really be something that's in the first post... It seems like the first post is a little outdated, and we could probably use a new thread with more up to date info? I am not sure if the original post starter still comes to the Dis - I know she used to be very active here. :lovestruc

We've taken the shuttle to Universal and SeaWorld. Can't beat the price.
Shades is not the only resort using the shuttle so they may stop at other resorts & hotels. They gave us a phone number to call to schedule our return trip.
One experience was good one wasn't so good. There were more people waiting for the shuttle from SeaWorld than seats (a van). We ended up being put in a taxi at no additional cost which was better. No stops.

I am also curious about the Universal shuttle; when we return in July 2016, we are planning a Universal day. While the shuttle is reasonably priced, it would be a deal breaker for us if we could not arrive at Universal early enough. We always do rope drop at Disney, so we walk over to the Poly and use Disney transportation because the SOG buses do not leave early enough for us. I was hoping this was not the case for the Universal shuttle.
I could be wrong, but I think I recall reading something about Mears transporting guests to Universal.
As far as Evergreens, we did not eat there when we stayed at SOG this past April, but I did see quite a few people doing take out from Evergreens, and enjoying their food by the Mickey pool; I do believe they were only open in the evenings.
As far as this thread; it has it's highs and lows. I try to check in from time to time to see if I can answer any questions. The Disney resort threads are much more active due to the high volume of guests compared to SOG; we are definitely in our own little world.:goodvibes

I am just assuming, with any type of shuttle service, we will not get to U/S in a timely manner before park opening. I am hoping - since our only intention is to do the HP portion in both parks - we'll be able to do a large chunk of it in one day. Even if it means we'll be standing in line all day long... As much as I don't want to.

Another question... I will be in WDW in a few weeks... I was planning to stop at SoG to buy dd's ticket in person - does anyone know if I get an actual "hard ticket" with numbers on it, so I can enter it into MDE when I get home and do her FPs with it? I am assuming if I purchase it in person - I will have this ability? Thanks! I am just hoping to eliminate the whole "buy ticket in advance/wait for #s to be emailed to me" thing. :thumbsup2

I believe that SOG gives Vouchers just like ITT's on base do and they have to be activated at the ticket booths at the parks/DTD The Voucher numbers can be entered like a ticket number and FP+ can be made.

We have always been given hard tickets - in person and ordering by mail through Shades.

In 2013 I read that Shades had refillable cups for 4.95 with $1 refills. Is that still available? Also, can you get coffee as a refill?

Well, I contacted SoG. This is their reply:

How much are they? – They are $6.95 and comes with a soda drink.
Where can I use them? – As of this moment ONLY in Evergreens, Mangino's, Garden Gallery, JAVA Cafe.
Where can I purchase them? – As of this moment you can purchase them from the Evergreens Sports Bar.
What beverages are included? coffee? – ONLY Soda or Ice Tea.

When taking the shuttle to Universal we DID arrive prior to the park opening. Had breakfast at Cinnabon on CityWalk while we waited.

This is good to know. :) Thank you!

This question is for the people who have been there recently since the reno to the Palm section. Is it that big of an improvement to warrant requesting staying on that side instead of the Magnolia? We usually stay on the Magnolia side due to its proximity to Evergreens. My DH likes to go there at the end of the day to unwind with a beer or 2 and meet some other people staying at SOG. I'm ok with either side as long as I have 2 sinks in the bathroom. Thanks!

I just received the email from SOG with the link for tickets. The authorization page is set up only for the sponsor, this lowly dependent would like to just fill it out in my own name with my info and send it back but it has me swear and attest that I am active or retired nowhere does it mention Dependent. Has anyone else filled this out as a dependent and signed it with your own name. I don't want to do it and have it become a 3 ring circus because I didn't have my husband sign it or put his ID card etc in there. I filled out his name and info where it asks for sponsors name and date of birth but then I put my ID expiration date and form number and I just want to sign it and send it back Whats everyone's experience with this?

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same question. The form is quite confusing. DH is not joining us this trip so I wasn't sure how this is supposed to be filled out.

No I put DH's info in it and had him sign it and sent it back. They had my contact though so they called me with no issues to set it up.

We were in a renovated room and, while it was a nice refresh, it isn't that huge of a change. If you like the other wing for location I would just stick with requesting that.

Just back from a fantastic visit last week!! We were in the Palm section. Room was fantastic! They had cupcakes in the lobby on Veterans Day, which was a great treat! Ate at Garden Gallery twice, once for breakfast and once for dinner. Also, they had a free character breakfast sponsored by Raytheon while we were there, which was AWESOME!!

Outstanding!
Where was the free character breakfast located? Which characters?

It was in the ballroom. They had four character stations set up in the ballroom. One corner had Mickey and Minnie. One corner had Belle. One corner started with Woody, and then switched out with Buzz. The last corner had Pluto who then switched out with Goofy. They did four seatings, with 125 people in each seating.

Wow. Wish we could do that next year, but plans are firm for Halloween time frame. Thanks!

We're here now and checking out in a few minutes to go home. We only stayed one night. There is new carpeting and beds. We're in the newer section. I wish we could stay longer but we only stayed overnight after our cruise. We want to go back for at least 10 days in the next couple of years. We just love SOG.

We've been here several times when the free character breakfast is happening, around Veteran's day. DH and I never go, but it's a great thing for families.

Apparently Evergreens is closed now for remodeling, and there is now a sports bar upstairs near the ticket office (Where the old 19th hole bar was located). We will be there over New Year's Eve and we were planning on watching a very important football game in Evergreens. If anyone is going to be there in the next week or so, can you check out this new space? I'm curious as to how many TV's and are they a decent size? Also curious about snack service since there is no kitchen there. The SOG person I spoke to on the phone was unclear of details, and just kept telling me how "it's so much closer". We we always stay in the way back of the property right next to Evergreens so that is not really that great of a perk for us.
