SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

Reservations aren't linked to hotel stay (even Disney hotel stays). You can make the reservations on MDE at 180 days out. If you stay at a Disney resort you can make all reservations for your stay (up to 10 days?) at the 180 day mark for your first day. If you are staying elsewhere, like SOG, you can make each day's ADRs at 180 days out. So you make your day one reservations at 180 days, then the next day make reservations for your second day, etc. Not as easy as if staying at a Disney resort, but it works. If you don't get everything you want, keep looking. Especially look at the 45 day point, which is when Disney Packages have to be paid off. People may drop reservations and the ADR's along with it.
Thank you so much for the info and helpful tip about 45 days!

What documentation do we need for 100% disabled? DH is 100% VA disability. I booked a room for November and didn't even realize that this was eligible for Catagory II. Guess I need to call and change our catagory!
Well, this I don't know. I would just give them a call and ask the question. :)

I emailed them and they replied that he just needs his ID card. But the ID card doesn't say anything about disability status. So he will just bring his disability rating form from the VA just to have proof if they ask for it.

Would anyone be able to tell me information about the junior suites at SOG? I saw a video on youtube, but I was wondering where they were located and if anyone here has personally stayed in a junior suite. THANKS!

Forgot that I added a night to the beginning of our stay...unfortunately Shades is full that night (November 8). Anyone have luck with just checking constantly?? We are booking that night at the airport hotel as a backup, but really want to stay at Shades!

Yes!

Christmas is the first time I have ever had an issue with this. Just keep checking and something may pop up! I also learned that you can call and ask to be added to a wait list for a date you need.

A good time to check for availability is 35-30 days prior to check-in (NOV 8). That is when many people cancel reservations. Even if the website says there is no availability; always call and verify.

We did call about a waiting list...but were told they don't do that.

FYI--we're here now and wanted to take Uber from SoG to MCO. Checked with management and they say they won't allow Uber to pick up at SoG. He said it's been a common guest request, but "at this time" the decision-makers have decided Uber "isn't safe." So be prepared for that.

I just received the email from SOG with the link for tickets. The authorization page is set up only for the sponsor, this lowly dependent would like to just fill it out in my own name with my info and send it back but it has me swear and attest that I am active or retired nowhere does it mention Dependent. Has anyone else filled this out as a dependent and signed it with your own name. I don't want to do it and have it become a 3 ring circus because I didn't have my husband sign it or put his ID card etc in there. I filled out his name and info where it asks for sponsors name and date of birth but then I put my ID expiration date and form number and I just want to sign it and send it back Whats everyone's experience with this?

I'm booked for shades for Christmas! So excited. Between a friend and I, we have the night of the 24th, 25th, and 27th. We are waiting for an opening on the 26th. So stoked to be able to be spending the holidays here since it is the first year our guys will be gone for Christmas! Can't wait!

Does shades do a lot of decorating for Christmas?

We were there at Christmas time 2010 and again last year, and it was decorated very nicely in 2010, and many many more decorations were there last year! It was very festive. We did a split stay from the Contemporary over Christmas to SoG Dec 28-30 and giving up the theme park view was made up for in the lovely decorations and the very very spacious room! (We were in a palm suite I believe). Edit: sorry we were in a suite in the Palm Wing, not "The" Palm Suite!

I'm trying to do the same thing, we are going in September and staying at GF but we were going to go back in December for a short Christmas trip, however online SOG is showing no availability for two of the days we need, so I'm not sure if it'll happen or not.

maybe try calling? Just booked a last minute weekend trip for a Haloween party, and only got Sunday. Online showed no availability for Saturday, but when dh called we were able to get two more rooms for the day before. Worth a try, although he did say he was on hold for about 15 minutes before he got through.

Love it! This looks great! We decided to keep Christmas Eve and Day at shades, then we are moving over to Animal Kingdom Lodge for our last 2 nights. Super excited!!

Has anyone gone to the Oktoberfest at Shades? Have found some pictures online but looking for any first hand reviews? TIA

We've been at Shades of Green a few times when Oktoberfest was scheduled, and it'll be taking place next week when we're there! My parents and I have stopped to listen to music and watch dancers since it has free admission. We haven't paid and tried the food, but it's still an enjoyable way to spend an hour or so.

I know that in the past couple years, we have booked Labor day week and gotten a "special", the last two times it was a discounted rate that included breakfast. Does anyone know when they usually start posting these specials for next year?
