I know this board isn't very active. But if anyone out there reads this....

Please send positive vibes my way.

It's IEP day. My son will be moving up to middle school next year. All new building. All new staff. All new students (because his classmates are all going to a different middle school that doesn't have a Life Skills program.)

Good luck! Do you meet with the current team or the future team? I always found it helpful to have at least 1 representative of the future team join us for such transition meetings. It was usually the special ed coordinator, who may or may not have ended up working directly with DD at the new level but at least someone to give input to their typical day at the new school/level.

It was mainly his current team. But his special education teacher (the one in charge of the Life Skills program) for next year was able to join us on Google Meet. And then today, my son actually went up to the school with his current teacher to see the school and meet his teacher.

Overall, I think it went really well! We're lucky that we have had a great team for these last couple years of elementary school. They will be missed so much!

In a couple weeks, we will be able to go up to check out the school and meet the teacher in person. And before school starts in August, my son will get a couple more chances to go up to get familiar with the building. The way the program is describes sounds really great! So I hope he will thrive there for the next few years.

I know I am late to this but how is he doing? I hope he is thriving! I have a kid with IEP in elementary school still and constantly worry about future and changes.

He's doing fantastic! So far, I couldn't be happier with the Life Skills program at his middle school. My son seems to really enjoy it and loves his teacher and paras. We have conferences in a couple weeks so I'm looking forward to that. Though, I do already talk to his teacher every day at drop off and pick up and via email so I already basically know how he's doing. We really lucked out with this teacher, I think! She's awesome.

That is really awesome to hear. Glad he is enjoying school.

He’ll have a great run for sure.
