~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
Hi D~ from DISNEYLAND!
a couple of CM's thought Megan's bag was so CUTE!!!
today was fun....got a photo of Donald's boat all decorated for Christmas! will send it to you soon!
can't upload photos, internet is SLOW!!
Are you going/have you gone on the ferris wheel (I forget the real name) at California Adventure? I DID NOT like it -- one of the very few Disney rides I can actually say I dislike. I didn't like the movement at the top and I didn't like that there were no bars to grab on with a life or death grip.
:rotfl: ♥ it! <---- do I get extra credit too ☺! °O°
Yup. AND you're exempted from taking the final.
And I think you need to break the news to Andrea (and Cheryl) - I called dibs on that 4th spot in your room a long time ago
:eek: + :mad: + :sad:+ :furious:+ :crazy2: + :sad1: + :headache: + plus a LOT of heavy footing stomping around!!!!
I will tell you about the only patchwork twirl skirt I've ever tried to make... It turned out more like a lamp shade - it was one of my first skirts ever - and we all thought it was sooo funny because one of the girls put it on the doll's head and it made the perfect hat... the following night, in my sleepless hours, Goofy's hat was born.
I have never done a stripwork twirl skirt alone, I have only ever done one that's attached to the bodice of a dress... I do know that the measurments are double for each additional row...
Interesting. Maybe they're just not a good design for AG dolls. There was so much fabric around the waist that the shirt didn't fit well.
And I don't think that zippers are expensive... However, you live on a ramen noodle budget... We graduated from that a few years ago, and we are mostly a Rice-a-Roni family.
It's official. You're rich. If you don't think zippers are expensive you are above the poverty level.
I don't wash it the minute I get home either - usually - unless I have a project in my head. But I do wash everything before I sew with it - the fabric is so much easier to work with. However, I don't press it after washing unless it's really bad.
I'll have to set up a mini wash station in the basement. I don't suppose I can just dunk them in the water in the dehumidifier. :confused3
Ack! I doubt they'll be able to reconstruct anything...
time will tell . . . . .
Have a family Christmas party to go to today. It's my mom's family - we are a very large family... 100s of cousins and cousins children - we all have to wear name tags. I know all my immediate cousins, but their kids - not so much - there's just so many. Which means, I will be on the road all day.
WOW. I have zero cousins. I'll never know what it's like to sit at the little kids table at Thanksgiving.
Speaking of tomorrow... It's probably gonna be a rough one for me, kind of have mixed feelings about working. It's the anniversary of my Mom's death... The 20th anniversary, to be exact. She was very sick my whole life, and as long as I remember, I was groomed to know that she was going to die early in my life. That never made it any easier for me, and as a pre-teen and teen, I pulled away from her because I thought it would hurt less when she died. I'll probably regret that for the rest of my life, because I still regret it now. She was a very strong and courageous woman who fought every second for every breath she took, and in a way, it was a relief when God granted her peace. I was only 16 when she died, and on the anniversary of her death - so close to Christmas - I always try to reflect on the memories that I have left of her, because most of them are quite blurry. In the recent years, I think to myself that I have lived most of my life with out her, and that makes me so sad. I pray that my girls never have to live with out me.
Thanks. It was fun to make, although I broke down and used ric rac. In general I'm not a ric rac fan.
:wave2: tag fairy -- I'll help you out. My tag can be
I don't do Starbucks.
I don't do Facebook.
I don't do ric rac.*
*except this once
Good point. Since it's your PTR I should ask my twirl skirt question. I spent way too much time last week trying to make an AG stripwork twirl. I was trying to make an attached underskirt (it didn't make the final "cut") and the waistband a separate piece. If you've done it for a doll do you remember measurements and did you do a separate waistband?
I don't wash fabric as soon as I get it home, and when I just need an itty bitty bit for AG clothes I'm kinda lazy. Good to know that both you and D~ wash. Maybe I can change my evil ways.
I'm sending that photo to the crime lab to have your address reconstructed. Be on the lookout for mail from me. It may or may not be a past due bill for Dorrrine with hefty interest charges.
Why don't you like ric rac? I am quite the ric rac fan. It covers wavy top stitching (though with my new machine that is pretty much a thing of the past).
I have not made a twirl skirt yet. I will figure it out and see what works. Don't hold your breath though.
I wash all my fabric right away except for GKTW pillow case fabric. But then if I decide to use something I put away for that I have to pull it out and wash it and I hate doing that. Very convenient for me to sew in my laundry room. Next house I want my sewing room on the first floor with laundry, but I still want laundry on my second floor, so I guess that means I will need two laundry rooms. Good thing my dh will have a retirement check and hopefully a high paying job as well (of course, all that depends on what happens this November -- I see no high paying job in his future if all stays the same).
Why don't you get a quote from the crime lab and I'll charge you 10% less. And don't take your business to Beth or Marianne, I hear they are both a little shady.
Cheryl.... if you ever feel the need that Dorrrine has too many outfits you can always send them to RI:rolleyes1
:woohoo: DH and I finished last night.
I was thinking the excess wardrobe would prefer to head south.
I am thinking you should head south as well and help me wrap :) I actually have a pressie that needs to get up to MA so I best wrap and get it sent -- the last two things I sent priority took 5 days to get there and one was just a state away.
Remember me?
Love that Cheryl is back! And that Andrea's PTR is going so well! Love that you called me today just when I really needed a pick-me-up! :hug:
And I think you need to break the news to Andrea (and Cheryl) - I called dibs on that 4th spot in your room a long time ago - remember, it was payment for the personal delivery of your pattern this summer :lmao: I did have to skip my original flight home and all you know :lmao:
You can have the 4th spot in her room. She is getting Lisa, Cheryl and me all rooms of our own. And I think she is getting Megan and Alexa a room to share, which is fine given that Alexa isn't old enough to be by herself.
Glad you are enjoying my ptr! I never imagined I'd be so popular :cutie:
Anyways, I thought I would share a couple of pictures of my Mom...
This is probably my favorite picture of my mom... She is the younger one. 9 more siblings followed after this...
D~
I love the pictures :lovestruc I am really sorry your mom was sick for so long though. I'm also sorry you can't go back and give your all to her, but you did what you thought was best at the time.
I was in RI when my father was sick and dying and I was so happy to not be home. It was a blessing for me though because I remember my father as happy and well all the years I had growing up with him, and I especially cherish the relationship he developed with my ds when my dh was gone for 10 months.
:hug: to you on this hard day.
And for a little smile, I really have to chuckle at the bridesmaids dresses -- they look like they are the closest thing the girls could find to a nun's habit! What year were they married?
Oh D~
The story about your mom makes me :sad1: Lots of :hug: & :grouphug: & :flower3: for you during this time . . .
My mom's mother was sick for a long time (she had breast cancer that was discovered while she was caring for her youngest who was born with Spinabifida - she didn't start treatment until after he had passed away, another year later) and I know how much it shaped her young adulthood and my aunt's childhood.
Oh! When I went to mail you that coupon I realize that the one that expired on 12/24 was for 50¢ off of bread :headache: The one for $8 off $80 expired 12/21 and couldn't get there in time :headache:
Okay - off to go check in elsewhere - be sure to let me know what outfits I need to make for our upcoming trip - I am hoping to be able to recycle some of the outfits from my trip though, just keep that in mind :)
I wish I had time to respond to each of you this morning, but since I have to work today - I just don't have the time.
I want to thank each of you for the heartfelt messages yesterday. :grouphug: It really means a lot to me.
Before we went to dinner with my family yesterday, I was able to take my girls and brother out to the cemetery - we haven't been out there for a long time, due to weather and time, but it was nice to get out there yesterday, almost on the anniversary of her death. And it was just as important to spend time with her family that misses her too. They are all very good at reviving some of my memories - and telling me about their memories. So, it is always very warming to me. :lovestruc
I also got to spend a lot of time with my brother, which rarely happens these days. I am sure I have told you all that he is handicapped, as well. He is 2 years younger than I am, and was born with hydrocephalic (sp?) - basically, water on the brain. Due to my mom's illness, my family wasn't able to care for him, so he immediately went into foster care. It was always my parent's dream to have us all live together, but it was never meant to be. Jonathan has been in the same foster home for 26 years, and these people couldn't be better people to him or for him. They are just wonderful, and really encourage him to do much on his own. Anyways, I really don't get to see my brother very often because we live 3 hours away, so it was really extra special to spend some time with him yesterday. He had just gotten 2 GoKarts for his birthday last year from his foster parents, so he brought us down on the lake to show us how they worked, and it was just amazing to see him pedaling around with my girls... :lovestruc Him and the girls pedaled around for about an hour, his foster mom was kind enough to take pictures and send them to me... The whole day was just very heart warming.
I get off of work a bit early today, so I am hoping to get home and work on the applique for Allison's bag for a while before the girls get home from school - it will give me a jump start on tomorrow.
The rest of my week will be crazy! I am half tempted to box up all the girls' gifts, tape them shut and put them to work wrapping... It would make things a lot easier. Otherwise, I can box them up tonight and wrap them myself while they are home too... We'll see.
D~ glad you were able to make it to the cemetery yesterday and then spend some fun time with your brother. I think I recall you mentioning he was handicapped, but I never knew he went into foster care. What a blessing that he is fostered by a great family.
Cheryl: Job well done as usual.
What should I do first today?
Plan my wardrobe along with Marianne???
Finish wrapping my last few Christmas presents?
Wrap dd's birthday presents?
Sew dd another Christmas dress seeing as I bought expensive fabric for her over the summer (she picked it out) that today went on sale for 30% off :headache:?
Sew 6 luggage tags for my sister (and these will be a bit more extensive than the usual ones I make as I am going to make these close)?
Sew 25 bookmarks for the kids' classmates?
Vacuum the mess my dogs made? -- dh took the stockings off the fireplacce hangers yesterday when he had the fireplace going and never hung them back up so one of my beloved poochies decided to grab them all off the table and he or she or perhaps both chewed a tassel off one so there are little tassel pieces all over the living room now. Additionally, one of them took a present and got the bow off and chewed the tag -- it was a ds game and thankfully they didn't chew on that. They have never taken presents before. I may be taking them on lots of car trips to and from the kids' school each morning and afternoon now until Christmas!
It must have been nice to spend the day with your brother and girls. What a nice way to remember your mom. I am sure that the anniversary of her death is a difficult day each year. I don't think it matters how old you are or how long she's been gone. It sounds like the family that fosters your brother is wonderful to him. While your parent's dream of having the family all together never happened, at least they had the peace of knowing that his foster family is taking excellent care of him.
Those go karts look really fun. Is really cold enough there to have the lake frozen solid already? It will be in the 50's here this week and I already am constantly cold! I am jealous of my kids who leave for Florida on Thursday. It will be 80 degrees during the day down there. Last year when we went for winter break is was quite cold. Only in the 50s during the day. They even had frost several mornings last year during winter break.
Can't wait to see the next messenger bag. I don't know how you hand appliqued the coin purse with such a tiny applique. You are amazing!
We'll I am off to deliver DD's gym clothes to school since she forgot them. Then I am visiting my friend who has cancer.
Andrea - let's plan our wardrobes :):cool1:
I'd like some of those capris you did in the traditional Mickey colors. You also did a skirt with a zebra Mickey, correct? I think I would like one as well. I think some capris with Mickey head flags would be nice for Epcot.
Cheryl: Job well done as usual.
I do what I can to make the world a better place. (Gee, it's hard to be humble.)
One vote for bookmarks.
I bought the skirt at Target and added the zebra mickey head - I can send you a zebra mickey head so you can add it to your skirt :)
The capris are easy if you have a pair of jeans to cut off or capris to embellish :)
Tell you what - the Epcot Mickey Head Flags are much better as embroidery, so I'll send you a pair of jeans to do up for me when you do your own capris and you send me the jeans you want made into traditional Mickey capris and I'll do those for you. Cheryl, D~ and any one else going to POFQ on this trip - do you want to get in on this exchange??? Which wardrobe piece to you want to do???
Thank you... Yes, we are very lucky. He first lived with his foster mom's parents for a little over a year, and then his current foster family took him in when they were first married - before they had children of their own. Then they had 3 boys... Now their oldest is out of college and married himself - and Jonathan is a HUGE part of their family. I love being able to see him at his foster home, because he is a totally different person there than when he is with my dad... Hard to explain - but his foster family treats him like a normal person and makes him do for himself as much as possible... they also advocate for him. I trust both of them completely with his care and wellbeing - I would have no idea where to start. So, yes, we are truly fortunate. I only wish I could see him more often, we used to live only 15 minutes away, but when we moved 6 years ago - we are now 3 hours away. :sad1:
I think you should plan your outfits with Marianne... After all, it's the most fun thing to do, out of all of your options.
If it makes you feel any better... Rufus got into the Dutch chocolate that Brian and Myrthe brought for the girls for Christmas a few weeks ago - he ate almost all of it (he would have eaten all of it, if we wouldn't have come home when we did)... The girls were not happy. And Rufus was bloated for 2 days... We know that chocolate is horrible for dogs, but we didn't realize that Brian and Myrthe had wrapped chocolate, so we didn't put it up. Normally, he doesn't get into chocolate or gifts - but that Dutch chocolate must be pretty potent smelling if he could find it. :eek:
Yes, I was surprised that the lakes are frozen enough... they whole way north the other day, we noticed people out ice fishing, and we even commented that they were crazy, because it hasn't been cold enough for long enough that the lakes have frozen over... but I guess they have? We were surprised when we got to Jonathan's foster parent's house, and they have 8" of solid ice on their lake. That day, Sunday, was 50° though, so it was a perfect day. :lovestruc
I hope you had a nice visit with your friend yesterday. :lovestruc
I don't think that "humble" is the right word... I think you're just trying to make up for all the naughty stuff you do. :thumbsup2
I think that this would be fun to do an exchange... but D~ is much bigger than all of you, so I don't think it will work. :confused3 But I'll happily case all you stuff. :lovestruc
I am glad you all had a good time with your brother, but I could never live up there...lakes frozen so much that you can drive vehicles on them is just plain wrong to me who will stay firmly planted in the south thank you very much!:rotfl:
ROFL... I don't enjoy the cold either - truthfully. I can't stand it. But I do like the snow up until New Years... Then I hate that too. :rotfl2: I love spring though... :lovestruc
I plan to head up to my sewing room right away this morning and finish Allison's bag. I was able to applique for an hour yesterday morning before work and an hour in the afternoon before the girls got home. So, I made a huge dent in it. I really hope to finish it up early today, but I will just be happy to finish it and get pictures posted before the girls get home from school. I can't wait to show you all what Blyssfull did for me! :lovestruc However, I do have to run to the little fabric store by me and get some gray thread - so that will take a chunk of time - unless I can talk Josh into doing it for me??? :worship: I will just be relieved to get this done in time. Honestly, I would really love to get them wrapped too. I am thinking of wrapping them seperately, but tying a ribbon around them to keep 'em together??? I am just super excited to give them to the girls - I hope they love them! :lovestruc
So, you all can stalk my PTR today for pictures. :surfweb:
D~
Oh, and I forgot to tell you all...
Josh has been saving all of his spare change for months now, saving up for a tablet of some sort...
I came home from work yesterday, and he handed me a ziploc baggie full of change ($104)... He decided to give us all of his change to help get us closer to paying off our trip. Both the girls and I refused it - but he insisted. I just :lovestruc my DH.
D~ <--- Either that, or he is truly excited to get rid of us for 9 days???
AWESOME Pics!! What a WONDERFUL DH!!!! :goodvibes:goodvibes Such a sweetie!
Andrea, I couldn't see your scrapes in the pics, that was some GREAT makeup! Are you healed now?
D~ doesn't matter what size one might be, if we all take on one day's outfit, we can all be a wandering group of very cute coordinated Disboutiquers :) Just think of the possibilities! Especially if Cheryl is bringing Ginger!
OOOOOH!!! I know! We can all bring our AGs too! They'll need coordinating outfits though . . . but if we stick with mostly SisBoom patterns that shouldn't be a problem! SisBoom and embellished ready-to-wear clothing . . .
Your girls wouldn't have a problem with that, right? I mean, it wouldn't be embarrassing to do WDW with a group of middle-aged women toting their AG dolls dressed in matching outfits around, would it? :confused3
:banana::banana::banana::banana:
We'd better get a move on, ladies! There are only HOW many days left until our trip???
Cheryl, D~ and any one else going to POFQ on this trip - do you want to get in on this exchange??? Which wardrobe piece do you want to do???
You know how sometimes you just get a song stuck in your head, and throughout the day you keep humming it to yourself? As much as you try to get rid of it it keeps reappearing? Going around and around in your head.
:rockband:
"She wore an itsy bisty teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini . . . ."
Since it's Disney, should we make then red polka dots?
