~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
Nope, no brother named John. Sorry! :goodvibes I think it's cool your dad is so friendly and remembers people!
So, I have to ask, are there any great non-chain fabric stores in the area that you've found?
Aww, that would have been awesome if you had a brother named John. I miss him, he was a sweet guy.
And it's not cool, it's annoying! Why? Because he stops all these people who don't remember him and he talks to them for HOURS. I can't take him anywhere. :lmao::rotfl2: No, seriously, I'm glad dad is so friendly and has lots of friends.
The only places I know of to buy fabric here is Wal-Mart and Hobby Lobby. There's probably places in Knoxville or other surrounding areas, but I don't leave my little nest.
hey what are you implying :rolleyes1 I was hard at work finishing up our NYC trip scrapbook, you aren't the only one slaving away :lmao:
ROFL - I love ya - you know that! :hug:
Hmm.... do you have a brother named John? Because I had a friend named John who was from Michigan, stayed in... Sevierville I think, and then moved back and I lost touch. He came back to visit his parents about 6 years ago and I saw him for a few minutes ... but not talked to him since. That would be nuts if it was your brother. :lmao::rotfl2:
But that's pretty cool about you being familiar with the area. And my dad knows everyone. I swear. :sad2: He meets someone once and he knows them 30 years later.
:surfweb:
LOVE the Goofy bag! What a great Christmas present!
My boyfriends dads fav character is Goofy. He has a Goofy Santa hat and the ears have lights the flash :rotfl2: In case you care. :rotfl:
Thanks... I am so glad you finally got your bag - I was about to drive down to Des Moines myself... :cool1:
And I think it's cute that your dbf's dad's fav character is Goofy... I can only have one favorite character, otherwise I would choose Goofy and Woody and Jiminey Cricket and Dopey and Boo, Sully, Mike... Um yah - I just better keep it to one. :worship:
Awww... I was hoping you had a brother named John too... That would be cool if friends were reunited in my (Andrea's) PTR.
D~ have you not learned anything about autographs and fabric from all of Nini's fabulous autograph quilt lessons???
FABRIC PENS! FABRIC PENS! FABRIC PENS! Sharpies are for NON-POROUS surfaces, NOT FOR FABRIC!!!! :hug: I know you just mis-typed - you didn't REALLY mean you were going to give her Sharpies, right? :cutie:
Because, one of the coolest things about your bags are that they are WASHABLE - and if she were to WASH a Sharpied signature, it might go "bye-bye" and that would just be so wrong :(
Oh, yes Marianne... The problem is that the back is all black fabric, Sharpies come in Silver... Do the fabric markers come in silver??? And they need to be fat too... Might have to do some crazy internet searches today to see if I can come up with Silver fabric markers... Otherwise, I may just have to use Sharpies - I am fine with retouching as necessary... :rolleyes1
Today, I am working on an accessory for the bag. The girls only have a half day of school, so I only have a little while to work on it. I'd like to get it done though. :lovestruc
Gonna have to work on Christmas gifts for other people this weekend, since I can't work on the bags with the girls here. Oh well, I really need to be better at prioritizing. :confused3
I really wish these updates (the site not your PTR) would get over with so I can quote again....
The problem with Sharpies and touching up...sometimes when the sharpie starts to go after washed...you get sort of a tie dye look as the ink doesn't just fade away...it runs and then fades... They do make fabric markers in all sorts of colors...I have seen the gold so I guess they have to make silver as well!
Argh! Still not letting me quote..(.obviously it likes you more!)
The first one will probably work...I've never heard of anyone having problems with ordering from Dharma...but the second one will NOT work...mainly because the characters will have to push down before they can write...and that type tends to dry out faster. They used to be called liquid embroidery. It is actually more of a paint product, so they are definitely durable... but take forever to dry! We used to use these type a lot in scout projects...I would stay away from them!
OK - perfect! Thanks Nini for your expertise! You are just the best! :thumbsup2 :lovestruc :lovestruc
NOw, which colors do I get????
D~
The Sharpie ones are more of a water color type of pen...great for filling in on appliques that have some stitching issues (not that I have ever had to use them of course!) but the characters might have problems actually signing with them.
I've never used them for actual words before, so I can't sau how they might work...
The closer to a magic marker type of point they have the easier they will be for the characters to use. You don't want to have to spend a lot of time explaining to them how to use the pens.
Now, I promise to leave your PTR alone for a while. I have to get the binding on two king size quilts today so they can go to their new homes tomorrow and I have a dreaded doctor's appointment this morning..yuck!
Nini
I think I will be getting the ones from Dharma... The sharpie ones don't look like they will work the best on black fabric.
I hope you have good results at your Dr. appt today, I'll be thinking of you and hope you are able to gets some rest. :hugs
Have fun with your quilts, as well. :)
The Goofy bag turned out super cute!!
Trying to pack up and get ready to go to HS :cool1:.
Waiting on my pants to dry :rolleyes1...then we should be off.
I have also been doing a lot of shopping for dd --some on e-bay though I refuse to pay some of those prices. Thanks to DIANE :lovestruc I scored at BJ's (I think it was she who told me to check there -- please forgive me if it was someone else) -- I actually only got two pet sets there as I already bought one on e-bay (for $5 more!) but I was happy. B&N has them as well and it's 25% ordering off line. And today I got the two cutest wooden chairs and table -- not AG but a total of $26 and way cuter than anything I've seen and will match dd's room. I got the Wardrobe at Target. I have a zillion things for dd and only three for ds :scared1: DD also wants another doll but I think that will have to wait.
Nope, it wasn't me that posted about BJ's. I didn't know they carried AG items. What an awesome score! Did you see on the Disboutiquers thread that somebody posted a link to the Our Generation AG sewing set? It had an AG sewing machine and lots of accessories. If my girls were still into AG dolls, I would totally have bought them that! Your DD is going to have the most awesome holiday!
Another early morning, can't sleep situation. This bag is not my pattern, however, I did add a couple things to it (the interior zipper) and of course, I "Disneyfied" it... :lovestruc
Front: This applique is HUGE!!! And I wanted it HUGE... it was also a HUGE pain... Over all, I am happy with how it turned out - however - I've decided that Mr. Rocket will not sew nearly as well unless he has Gutermann thread in him... :confused3
So, there you have it, Victoria's park bag, lovingly made by Mom for Christmas... Now, to make some matching accessories.
D~
I love the Goofy bag. Your stitching and details are incredible, just like usual! The huge applique is great and the bag is totally awesome. Your dd is going to be so thrilled when she opens her gift. What accessories are you making to go with it? How did you add the zippered pocket inside? I really like that. Next time I make one of the Rosetta bags that would be a great addition. Now I can't wait to see that bag for your older dd. I am still trying to guess which movie/ride it is based on.
Anything from Dharma should be good. I've always been very happy with everything I've ever ordered from them. Plus the one time I had a problem they had awesome customer service. But I know that our Michaels carries fabric pens in a bunch of colors. Younger dd's scout troop has used them for various projects. They wash very well. I don't know if they have silver but it might be worth checking before you order.
Our ACMoore has fabric markers in all sorts of colors -- I never specifically looked for silver though, but I bet they might have it. Problem is not all of them are large -- a lot of the colors are fine point.
Hmm, not sure who mentioned BJ's then, but thank you to whoever it was!!! Diane, they have the pet and book sets for $15 each. They only had Praline, Honey and Ginger at ours, and I had already got Ginger off e-bay for $20 :rolleyes: They also had the mini dolls with 6 books and those were $40. I was tempted, but I didn't get it. I figure I can always go back, but I already have tons for dd. I don't have a BJs membership but my sister's boyfriend does and this is payback for me taking him to the Navy Exchange package store all the time!
I saw the sewing machine set at Target and I am tempted to get that as well. The only thing I'd really like is a bed. I wish dh would make one but he pretty much rolled his eyes at me when I asked him to. He made all of our dd's bedroom furniture sans her bed (because it's iron) so I think a doll bed would be a walk in the park. TJ's only had tables, chairs and rockers -- no beds. I will get a pic before I wrap it up as the set is so adorable.
Well, the zippered pocket is kind of hard to explain... I didn't do a tut for that when I was adding it. :confused3 I will try to next time - seeing as I am making another one soon...
Sooo, as some of you may (or may not) know, Victoria's favorite character is Goofy... :lovestruc
I really wanted to make the girls custom park bags for our trip, but they really didn't want The Ultimate Park Bag, and both of my autograph bags were too small. They really wanted something they could carry a sweatshirt in, in case they got cold/hot, and they both really liked the messenger bag style they had the last time we went to WDW.
And, you know me, gotta revamp everything and make it my way...
Umm.... hello that was me :rolleyes1
:lmao: Glad you were able to find some things.
I posted this earlier today... but it disappeared. :confused3
I made the matching zip walled for Victoria's Christmas gift this morning. I need help deciding what other accessories I should make... Ideas?????
And then yesterday, when I was taking pictures of the bag, I didn't realize that part of the applique folded over because of the nature of the flap - so while I had the bag out of it's hiding spot today, I snapped a picture of the entire applique for you all. :thumbsup2
cute wallet! how about a lanyard?
use the same fabric and then add goofy's hat hanging from the bottom!
How about a water bottle holder? Does she have an ipod? You could do an ipod case. I know it doesn't go in the bag you made but you could to a zippered pouch for all of her toiletries that she'll take on the trip.
A lanyard was one thing I realized I really wanted after our first day in the parks. I kept my KTTW and my photopass card in it with the photopass barcode facing out - made it super easy to have the pictures added :) We just bought the cheap ones from Staples, so they didn't close (and I wish they did) and they just had the simple blue strap - but I saw all the cute ones in the parks and wished I had one of those!!!
LOVE the wallet :)
I don't have an ACMoore here - but maybe Michaels or JoAnn's/Hancocks has some?
:woohoo: That is just amazing.
Thanks! :thumbsup2
OK - I really like this idea. However, we already have pin lanyards... Should we swap the pins and put them on the lanyard I make???
Hmmm, a water bottle holder???? Not sure I know what one of those is? She does have an ipod, but I don't think I am going to let them carry those in the parks... Since dd had her's stolen in Amsterdam, I am sort of protective about their electronics. They'll have it with them while traveling and while in the resort too... A toiletry bag is also a marvelous idea... :lovestruc What to do, what to do???
Thanks! OK, so do you have a picture of the lanyard you used??? I am just curious about how to make the pouch... Off to google to see if I can find a lanyard at Staples, so I can see it. :thumbsup2
I did my grocery shopping for the great cookie escapade of 2011 with my neighbors... Just my portion of it was $70! :eek: And I am a tightwad. I don't think their lists were as expensive as mine, gonna have to chat with them about that...
Everyone is bringing a bottle of wine to share, and an appetizer... then we are baking holiday treats all day long. At the end, we divide between us and take all the fun stuff home. I am pretty excited about it.
So, really no sewing today - however, I might head down to the little boutique fabric shop and see if they have any fabric that catches my fancy. :wizard: I'd ordered Allison's interior fabric for her messenger bag, but when it got here, the color is wayyyy off from my screen and what I wanted - however - the color is perfect for the ride theme, so I am just not sure what to do. I thought I'd run down to that little fabric store and see if they had anything that looked more like what I had in mind????
