~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
I can't believe how close your trip is! Have you told Megan yet?
I made great progress on my gift yesterday, I managed to finish prepping the applique, so all I have to do is satin stitch now. It is one of the largest appliques I have ever done... Very comparible to my Donald outfit. The only part that concerns me, is that the fabric piece I am appliqueing on is quite large (and has very think stabilizer on it), and I am hoping that I will be able to maneuver it in my machine. :confused3 I think I might roll up the end I am not appliqueing and paper clip it or something, so it's not as large???
Anyways, I am hoping to finish and post pictures before lunch time. :lovestruc
D~
Quilters tip...bicycle clamps. (some quilt shops even sell these). You roll up the unused portion on either (or both) sides and it helps you to maneuver the fabric under your machine. I have heard of some people even tackling a king sized quilt that way..... (not me of course!)
Are you using stabilizer or batting?
Nini
nope she doesn't know about DLR yet .... trying to figure out when I want to surprise her with it....we have an hour layover in Sacramento so might do it then....yes I will take photos....just need to hide all our DLR stuff in the suitcases when I start packing next week.
hope you can finish up....what about using the large butterfly paper clips? looking forward to seeing it!
Sooo, as some of you may (or may not) know, Victoria's favorite character is Goofy... :lovestruc
I really wanted to make the girls custom park bags for our trip, but they really didn't want The Ultimate Park Bag, and both of my autograph bags were too small. They really wanted something they could carry a sweatshirt in, in case they got cold/hot, and they both really liked the messenger bag style they had the last time we went to WDW.
And, you know me, gotta revamp everything and make it my way...
Another early morning, can't sleep situation. This bag is not my pattern, however, I did add a couple things to it (the interior zipper) and of course, I "Disneyfied" it... :lovestruc
Front: This applique is HUGE!!! And I wanted it HUGE... it was also a HUGE pain... Over all, I am happy with how it turned out - however - I've decided that Mr. Rocket will not sew nearly as well unless he has Gutermann thread in him... :confused3
Open the flap... and you get... Goofy's pants and supspenders. :rotfl2:
The front inside slip in pocket... I followed the pattern's directions, the next time, I will make the pockets my way, I really don't like this pocket all that much:
The zippered pocket I inserted into the back of the bag:
The strap is adjustable and quilted, I didn't take any pictures of it though.
So, there you have it, Victoria's park bag, lovingly made by Mom for Christmas... Now, to make some matching accessories.
:lovestruc LOVE LOVE LOVE this bag. You did a great job and I'm sure Victoria is going to love it. I think there might be a problem with her using this in the park....people will be stopping her every 2 seconds to say that they love this bag. :rotfl:
The lining fabric is perfect and I LOVE the suspenders when you open the bag. Was one of those the picture of the back of the bag?
:worship::worship::worship::worship::worship:
D ~ you have outdone yourself! this is truely amazing work, love the inside pants and suspenders and the applique is so cute! :love::love::love:
Victoria is going to LOVE it!!!
Totally love the Goofy bag! Can't wait to see the accessories! (And I'm jealous!)
:scared1: You found me!
Yep, I'm in Maryville, and recall Jo-Ann's being in Foothills Mall. (Can you believe they're building a movie theater in it now? Sheesh ... guess they're trying to do anything they can to attract people to the ghost-town mall.)
Did you grow up around here? Now I'm wondering if we've crossed paths... :lmao: And I'm sure my dad knows your parents. My dad knows everyone in a 100 yard vicinity. :sad2: It's why I can't take him anywhere.
Actually, no, I doubt we've met. We're all from Michigan originally. Two siblings and I still live here, but my parents moved to TN when my dad retired. (My third sib is near Atlanta.) The Smokies was our favorite (non-WDW) vacation spot growing up so that's one of the reasons they chose it. They live in Walland, up on the side of a mountain with a view into the Park. If they had to move away, at least it's a great place to visit! I know Maryville, Knoxville, Townsend, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg really well now.
As to whether your dad knows my dad...is your dad into tractors at all? My dad modifies John Deere lawn tractors to do crazy things. This is his first one. He's actually not driving it here, though. My uncle and then, my son are. He's walking alongside my son.
Um - can I just say that tractor video was awesome? The Top Gun music totally makes it all the cooler :)
And once again, I will be interested to see if this actually posts - as I just noticed my last set of quotes did not post :( I think the DIS is trying to turn me into a lurker :(
CUTE!!!! Now is Lisa going to beg for one? I love the huge applique and I actually prefer to do huge appliques -- IMO they look nicer but that may very be because small details turn out wonky for me.
I have been busy getting ready for our work Xmas party -- finally finished my gifts today though I may get one more gift for my Secret Santa. We pick names, and then we all chip in and make a basket for the boss, and then I get everyone something from myself as well.
I have also been doing a lot of shopping for dd --some on e-bay though I refuse to pay some of those prices. Thanks to DIANE :lovestruc I scored at BJ's (I think it was she who told me to check there -- please forgive me if it was someone else) -- I actually only got two pet sets there as I already bought one on e-bay (for $5 more!) but I was happy. B&N has them as well and it's 25% ordering off line. And today I got the two cutest wooden chairs and table -- not AG but a total of $26 and way cuter than anything I've seen and will match dd's room. I got the Wardrobe at Target. I have a zillion things for dd and only three for ds :scared1: DD also wants another doll but I think that will have to wait.
Will try to post my Bitty Baby clothes I made on the Disbout thread on Sunday or Monday. Very busy through Saturday -- will even be late with my BG :mad:
Sorry I can not make this smaller it is absolutely fabulous. I am totally in love with this bag.
I am one third of a way done with my give. Went out to eat with DH and the kids. May try to do one more shirt tonight or cut out pants. I am not sure though.
I am going to be super busy tomorrow night sewing though because I have a huge list of things to finish.
Um - can I just say that tractor video was awesome? The Top Gun music totally makes it all the cooler :)
Thanks! My dh did the video. :goodvibes My dad's second tractor creation is finished and waiting for a new video to be filmed when we visit at the end of the month. My dad requested the song "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" for that one! :rotfl2:
ROFL @ people stopping dd every 2 minutes... she'll probably refuse to carry the bag after the first day. :rolleyes1
Thanks! :) Actually, I didn't post any pictures of the back of the bag... I was going to add a slip-in pocket back there, and I decided not to, because it would just be too bulky. So, I left the back totally plain, I plan to give her some silver Sharpies with it for Christmas, that way she can have the characters sign her bag again - it was super cute that way last time.
Hmm.... do you have a brother named John? Because I had a friend named John who was from Michigan, stayed in... Sevierville I think, and then moved back and I lost touch. He came back to visit his parents about 6 years ago and I saw him for a few minutes ... but not talked to him since. That would be nuts if it was your brother. :lmao::rotfl2:
But that's pretty cool about you being familiar with the area. And my dad knows everyone. I swear. :sad2: He meets someone once and he knows them 30 years later.
LOVE the Goofy bag! What a great Christmas present!
My boyfriends dads fav character is Goofy. He has a Goofy Santa hat and the ears have lights the flash :rotfl2: In case you care. :rotfl:
Nope, no brother named John. Sorry! :goodvibes I think it's cool your dad is so friendly and remembers people!
So, I have to ask, are there any great non-chain fabric stores in the area that you've found?
D~ have you not learned anything about autographs and fabric from all of Nini's fabulous autograph quilt lessons???
FABRIC PENS! FABRIC PENS! FABRIC PENS! Sharpies are for NON-POROUS surfaces, NOT FOR FABRIC!!!! :hug: I know you just mis-typed - you didn't REALLY mean you were going to give her Sharpies, right? :cutie:
Because, one of the coolest things about your bags are that they are WASHABLE - and if she were to WASH a Sharpied signature, it might go "bye-bye" and that would just be so wrong :(
