~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
I think it was very smart to change the dates of your trip. More days at
Disney for less money! The new bag is super cute! I love the Mickey on it and the fabric choices were perfect! I went to the AG site to see what they had on sale for Cyber Monday. I didn't think that they had as many good things as they did in the past. Maybe I felt that way because my girls have outgrown their dolls though. Did you end up going on and looking?
D, totally love the Mickey bag!!! Now you make my Mickey bag look hideous. :sad:
:lmao::lmao: :rotfl2::rotfl2: :lmao::lmao: :rotfl2::rotfl2:
Should have went to Walmart! You could have started a riot, gotten a $3 waffle maker, and a nice sewing machine! :rolleyes1
:lmao::lmao:
D ... are you stalking me? :confused3
If I understand correctly,
3-6 MK
3-7 DHS
3-8 EP
I'm in those parks on those days. :lmao: As much as I love AK ... I can't do 2.5 days there on a trip. I could do 1.5 ... but that's just me. I say stalk me at DHS. We can start a riot at the TSM FP machines, and hopefully cause a distraction so our DDs can score all the FPs. :thumbsup2
Can't wait to see what you decide to do in the end! :goodvibes
Liddy... Here's the plan... I was able to switch some ADRs this morning...
3/6 What ever we feel like
3/7 MK
3/8 Epcot
3/9 DHS
3/10 AK
3/11 Epcot
3/12 DTD/off
3/13 AK
3/14 MK
3/15 Leaving day... maybe morning EMH at MK?
Hi D~!
Thanks for keeping my ptr going while I was out of town. I'm back but swamped -- have to laundry, have to do Christmas card pics (haven't even downloaded off the camera yet to see if any turned out) and have to start sewing some Christmas pressies.
We had an awesome time on our mini-holiday but dd wants our next vacation to be Disney!
I LOVE the Mickey bag -- that one is my favorite of all the ones I've seen thus far.
Super move on changing your trip dates. I have no issues ever pulling kids out of school -- trust me, it will NEVER hurt them in the long run. It will make for great family memories and bonding and that alone is worth it.
Glad your Thanksgiving and time with your family went so well.
I completely forgot about cyber Monday AG so woke at 6am and looked right away. The only thing I missed out on was the Coconut's Pet Vet set as it was sold out. And a couple of other things I had already gotten with a lot on e-bay. I did buy a pair of boots, a pair of sneakers, the rain coat set (which also has rain boots -- I just know I could never sew a rain coat and dd wants more shoes/boots) and one other outfit that was really reasonable and had shoes with it. I was disappointed that there was no major furniture items. I did go to Wally World this morning for milk, bread bananas and cat litter and first thing I saw was horses for 18" dolls and they were nice. They only had four choices and dd wanted a palomino but their palomino was too dark and had a western saddle so I bought a chestnut one with an English saddle -- I think dd will be OK with it, though likely will still want a palomino. The horse was $40, has a thin fur covering, apparently neighs (though I wish it didn't) and bends a wee bit to pose the legs. I will try to post a pic later, but overall I'm happy with it and it's a better price than I can find any used AG horse for. DD doesn't care about the AG label either, I'm just worried though b/c the mane and tail are dark brown instead of light gold.
Off to unpack, laundry, clean and all that gross stuff I have to do.
I've been away from the boards for a few days getting ready for Thanksgiving. We had 17 people staying at our house on Thanksgiving night (ranging in age from 2 to 65). Needless to say I didn't spend much time on the computer. I had a few comments on some of your posts:
Sounds like you made the best of your Thanksgiving even if Target decided to make you work on Thanksgiving. I really hope they change the policy next year and open on Friday morning (at a reasonable time).
I LOVE your Mickey bag. It looks amazing.
Your updated plans sounds great. I think you are more likely to have better fares on that Tuesday so you will probably save more money then if you left on Thursday. I think your plan for the park days sounds good. I'm looking forward to your updated pages for your mini-planner.
I checked out your web album and it looks good. I hope you add all of your AG outfits. I think it is great to be able to see all of your creations in one place. Your work is so amazing it really needs to be showcased. It will make for a great on-line catalog too.
I can't believe Marianne is in DW, and that she whipped up a pair of pants while her husband was finishing watching the football game! I checked the weather and besides a chance of thunderstorms today the weather looks perfect (sunny and 70s).
Yay for extra Disney Time! and saving the money on air line tickets!
Love your Mickey bag, happy to hear you got Mr. Rocket all fixed and he's doing a bang up job for you!
Hi D~!
Super move on changing your trip dates. I have no issues ever pulling kids out of school -- trust me, it will NEVER hurt them in the long run. It will make for great family memories and bonding and that alone is worth it.
DD doesn't care about the AG label either, I'm just worried though b/c the mane and tail are dark brown instead of light gold.
Sounds like you did pretty well in the AG website. I posted earlier that I was a little disappointed in their sale this year. Not that I was looking for anything, but I thought they had fewer furniture and clothing items for the dolls than in the past. It sounds like you did very well with your Walmart horse. Hopefully your DD will be so excited that she got a horse for her doll that she doesn't care that the mane and tail are darker. My kids played for years with their Target horses, which I bought on sale for like $20. They never cared that they weren't the AG brand horses.
I understand why D is concerned about her girls missing school. I pulled mine out for at least a week or so every winter when they were in elementary school. But now that they are in middle school it is so much harder. My older DD, who is only a 7th grader is already in two classes that will be on her high school transcripts. I wish that they were smaller and we could still take them out of school as easily. I miss being able to travel without the crowds since I hate crowds! I do agree that being together for family time is just as important as school. Making memories with your kids will last a lifetime versus remembering a formula from algebra class, which will only last until June.
My daughter is in her first year of Middle school. Her teachers had a fit when I pulled her out for a week for Disney in Sept/Oct...so I sent them each a letter explaining my options. I could take her out of school for a week, or I could pull her out and home school. Either way worked for me. The school was going to loose her for their money (she always aces her CRCTs...which is directly tied to their money!) If I felt she would have a tough time catching up I wouldn't have done it...but she said they only averaged a couple pages a day in each class...easy peasy for her!
I guess my attitude about missing school comes from being a military family for 20 years. Schools close to military bases are generally easier when it comes to missing school. Much more lenient. My older kids were always pulled out for a week when we traveled. It was hard to take a month off without missing school. (and with husband's MOS we only got one vacation a year)
However, if my daughter was in high school I might think twice about it....or maybe not! Would totally depend on the courses and her grades.
I don't mind pulling them out of school so much, as they mind missing that much school. When I pulled them out of school last spring for our trip to Europe - it was major h3ll... Both of them had to work extra hard to get all their end of year projects and homework completed before we left on our trip - which wasn't nearly as bad as trying to get the teachers to give them their assignments in the first place... That was like pulling teeth. I understand that a lot of teachers don't have things ready that far in advance, but I gave them 8 weeks notice, and a reminder at 2 weeks - then 4 days before we were supposed to leave, the girls finially got their assignments from the majority of their teachers. There was even one teacher that waited until the day before we left to get the girls so come in after school - I drew the line and told her "too bad" you had pleany of notice, they are booked solid with other teachers, so you'll have to finalize their grades with out the work that you failed to give them. I was very angry - because they all knew, and it wasn't fair to make the girls scramble when they had done everything right, and given ample notice and effort to get all their work completed and handed in on time.
~~~~ Sorry, can you tell I am still really upset about this???? ~~~~

Now, granted, there are a few different factors here - such as - it's not the last week of school, so they will have an opportunity to catch up after our return (that is huge)... And this time, it's only four days, vs. 5. I know an extra day may not seem like much - but 5 days at the end of the school year compared to 4 days during the year is a big difference.

The teachers were horrible last year. As a matter of fact, I am afraid to tell them that we are going this year - as youngest dd has some of the same teachers that oldest dd had last year, and I don't want them to think I am constantly pulling the girls out of school. But in the end... I am pulling them out, and they will miss 4 days of school, like it or not. It's not as if they miss excess amounts of school each year - usually it's one or two days from being sick. It happens, families take vacations... :confused3

And, I am sorry, but $$ talks... if it was only a couple hundred - I would probably deal with it - we are talking an excess of a thousand... Yah - they are going to miss 2 more days, and we are going to have fun, and we are going to enjoy ourselves... that's just the way it is. :lovestruc

D~ <---who hopes you all don't think I am an ogre - well, I am, but....

You all are pretty lucky it sounds like...when we pulled our kids out of school we were reminded that if they missed a total of 10 days, no mater what, that they could/would be held back a year. If we did pull them, and they got sick we had to have a doctors excuse...oldest DS has bad ears,DD had broncitus(sp,sorry...),youngest DS caught everything! All 3 had braces :sad1:
My DD was between the 3rd and 6th top student in HS, with a grad. class of about 650+ that year. It did NOT matter, if she missed 10 days, they would hold her back we were told. I finally said, Fine, then I want all the Football players and any others like the Band, that miss 15+ days to be held back...But we were told that they didn't count cause the days missed were for school activities. That did not count for Swim, Golf,Soccer, Theater/Chorus talk about being a tad peeved...
Anyway, I did pull them and made sure if they missed any days for dentist/doctor visits I had a note for that day. Worked great...Didn't hurt that I have volunteered at all the schools for years! Helps if you know some of the teachers or the Supertendent of Schools-yea, I did go and talk to him about a Disney Trip...works great when the big boss says it is ok for the kids to miss school. I did stress how much they would learn in ECPOT....:thumbsup2

Puleeze.... I love your Mickey bag!!! :thumbsup2

And we love AK - there are just so many places to wander around in, we have been there twice, and I still don't think we have seen the whole park. We'd really like to take the time to enjoy everything, so I am really glad that we are spending 2 days here.

The only park that doesn't get 2 days on this trip is DHS... So, we will try to sneak in on either our arrival day or our departure day (most likely) just to ride TSM one more time. :lovestruc And for dds - probably ToT and RnRC too.

Thanks! :lovestruc

Super move on changing your trip dates. I have no issues ever pulling kids out of school -- trust me, it will NEVER hurt them in the long run. It will make for great family memories and bonding and that alone is worth it.

Hopefully their teachers will see it the same way. I am really excited that I was able to change our dates, and still get the resort and FD package. I really want to stay at CBR too - but that just might have to wait for another trip. :thumbsup2

Glad your Thanksgiving and time with your family went so well.

Me too. :lovestruc

Sounds like you got some great deals! I forgot about CM too... I am just trying to stay away and not tempt myself - I need to get this trip paid off - so no luxury items for us. :rolleyes1

Me too... Or D~ is going to have to break down and find another job... I don't think I can take 2 years of this in a row - it was just so intense... Working and trying to accomodate all the family plans - it was insane! I don't know how others do it??? :grouphug:

I LOVE your Mickey bag. It looks amazing.

Thansk! :thumbsup2

Your updated plans sounds great. I think you are more likely to have better fares on that Tuesday so you will probably save more money then if you left on Thursday. I think your plan for the park days sounds good. I'm looking forward to your updated pages for your mini-planner.

I was hoping that I would see a nice fare sale today, since it's tuesday - but nope. That figures, once I change my plans, airfare will go up. :sick:

I started redrafting my Mini-Planner pages last night. Unfortunately, my entire main calendar page had to be almost completely redrafted. I forgot to save it in the individual layers - kicking myself now. Oh well... I managed to complete most of it, I just need to add all the text, and it should be good. :cool1:

I checked out your web album and it looks good. I hope you add all of your AG outfits. I think it is great to be able to see all of your creations in one place. Your work is so amazing it really needs to be showcased. It will make for a great on-line catalog too.

Cool... Thanks for checking it out for me. I really appreciate that. I do plan to add all of my AG outfits soon - it will probably be another week or two though.

I can't believe Marianne is in DW, and that she whipped up a pair of pants while her husband was finishing watching the football game! I checked the weather and besides a chance of thunderstorms today the weather looks perfect (sunny and 70s).

I know... She has been sending me lots of texts :lovestruc and updating her FB page a lot :surfweb: It is so exciting to watch her trip unfold - and to really see the customs in action. I :lovestruc it!!!

Yay for extra Disney Time! and saving the money on air line tickets!

Love your Mickey bag, happy to hear you got Mr. Rocket all fixed and he's doing a bang up job for you!

:banana: Thanks Lisa! I plan to mail your package this morning. :thumbsup2 I am going to have to mail Cruella seperately (I still need to finish her) - you'll have her in time for Christmas though, I just have to get this one bag done for the person that leaves at the same time you do for her trip.

The Mickey bag is SWELL as Mickey would say! Of course I am still partial to the Figment bag, but Mickey or Stitch would be my second choice!

Lynn

Ooooh - a Stitch bag would be soooo fun to make... popcorn:: Definately an original. :lovestruc

Hey! Our plans are the same for 3/7-3/9 - funny! We'll have to wave if we see each other

Yes, please say hello if you see me!! :lovestruc I am not sure that anyone will miss me in all my DD gear. :rotfl2:

For those of you waiting on the test bags - they are going out in the mail this morning. Just so you know. :lovestruc I plan to sew for the rest of the day. popcorn::

First off I think Stitch is a fabulous idea for a bag.

Second I want to sew for the rest of the day but I will have to settle for a few minutes before work, before getting the girl off the bus and after the boy goes to bed.

Todays goal is to finish the cars outfit I am working on. I am loving it. This time around there are more outfits for the boy planned. I guess I should figure out how many panels and things I need to cut for my Christmas skirt for C.

I've been working on updating this Calendar page for my Mini-Planner since I changed the dates of our trip. The updated version is very similar to the original.

D~ <---who hopes you all don't think I am an ogre - well, I am, but....

Hi Ogre! :wave:

:lmao::rotfl2:

I tease, I tease! :goodvibes

I hope you can sort out the school stuff with the teachers this year. Maybe they'll be accommodating. :wizard: Hopefully with it being during the year, they'll be a bit more prepared. :confused3 I know the end of the year is just chaotic for everyone. But sorry you had such a bad experience. :sad1:

I'm a bit worried about pulling mine out. In 2010, I pulled DD out, but it was school policy that her absenses are UNexcused (and X amount of UNexcused = mommy & daddy take a field trip to the jail!). They also said that if a child has X amount of absences, period, then they can call in a Truancy officer and hold the child back. :sad2:

Also, the children are NOT allowed to do the missed work. So whatever they're learning, they will miss out on 100%. They can not complete the material early, or late. They're just not allowed to do it at all. I thought it was bad enough they would receive 0s for the days missed ... but they also don't even get to learn the material? Lame. :sad2:

Mine will miss a total of 3 days for our trip. Our only other option would be a summer trip ... but the heat will be too much for me. If the kids were struggling in school, I'd never consider taking them out for even one day ... but both kids are doing amazing this year! DD is on the honor roll (all As and one B), and DS is at the top of his Kindy class.

Hey! Our plans are the same for 3/7-3/9 - funny! We'll have to wave if we see each other ;)

I smell an Epcot meet! :woohoo:

I have to say reading about all your problems with schools makes me happy I live in NYC. Imagine them clogging the court system because you went on vacation :lmao::lmao:

I just don't get that philosophy.

We've been lucky with taking Megan out of school for trips....in CA, they even had a policy of "excused" absences contract, if we signed it and all the homework was completed the school still got their $$ from the state!
In WA they are also allowed to have the time off - they don't want it to be ABUSED- but understand that families sometimes needs to take trips during the school year! I always give her teachers plenty of notice and ask for any/all homework ahead of time if possible....even with Middle school all of her teachers worked with us!

D~ thanks for letting me know about our package, can't wait to see them!
