I have aquired a side loading bobbin machine (jeans machine by white) Anyway I dont have the manual but I have figured out everything BUT how to fill a bobbin.

Can anyone explain the whole concept of bobbin loading on your side loading machine and then I know I can figure it out on this one... DO I thread the needle... do I thread it thru everything but the needle... then how does one transfer the loosse thread to the spool?? After you wrap the spool do you feed it thru the spool thingy like you would if you were sewing??

Thanks bunches!!!

I was able to find instructions online when I lost my manual........It was a Singer though. Have your tried www.whitesewing.com ??

Here is a link to the White help page. http://sewing.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.whitesewing.com/
Sorry it's linked through about.com

As for how bobbins are wound it depends on the machine. You will take the thread through the tension and the thread guides and then start it on your bobbin by winding the end around a couple of times so that it doesn't come off. Make sure the tension is tight but not too tight. If it is too loose the thread will tangle when you try to sew and if it is too tight it will snap when you try to wind the bobbin. If you have a metal case your bobbin fits into it will have a tension there as well that the thread needs to feed through. I have a drop in bobbin and I love it so it has been a while since I used any other type. Good Luck!

Can't help you with the bobbin--but I highly recommend investing in getting those instructions.

I made the same mistake with my sewing machine 2 years in a row (sewing halloween costumes). What's funny is when I told my hubby about it--he was like "well duh" as if it was something everyone should know *smack*! I ordered instructions for mine and it made everything very easy. No more shameless visits to the store with my "broken" machine which was nothing more than operator error.

Google your brand and model number and you should be able to find someone willing to sell a copy of the manual for older machines--or get an original manual.

I agree with looking online for instructions for your model. I have a old old Singer and DH found the instructions online for me. (Thank goodness cuz I have to look at them every time I need a bobbin!)

Good luck! :)

I figured it out!!! WOO HOOO!! The post where you place your thread to sew, when shifted over spins... load the bobbin, wrap the thread, slide it over, press the petal, and presto!

Thanks for the suggestions... I may pick up the manual, but by the time it comes, my interest in sewing will have faded. :teeth:

I know what you mean--I still say get it. I'm a once a year sewer. This year, I will graduate to a 2x per year sewer since I made the girls their 4th of July outfits. It ended up being LOTS of cheating!!!!!--they look right...but they have stitches in places that shouldn't have stitches. Supposed to be a button front. I got so frustrated, I stitched the front together and sewed teh buttons on for show. and so the girls could get in and out easily--I just showed on snaps. I never knew I would get so "good" that I could "fake" it. :rotfl: .

Halloween costumes are next. I don't know why--my daughter loves it when I make her stuff. If only she knew how bad it really looked. :teeth:

LOL Lisa... I grew up sewing costumes for Chicago's Light opera company's productions of Gilbert and SUllivans shows... (say that 10 times fast lol) When asked to describe my sewing prowse.... I reply... I can make anything look good from 20 feet away. :teeth:

I can do repairs and sewed my childrens crib set.

My current project is curtains for my master bath. I found a couple of window scarves at Target on sale for 12.99 and I can use them as fabric for the shorter curtians I need. I have enough of it to practice (a lot) on sewing that type of sheer fabric. Simple, straight (hopefully) lines.... We will see... LOL

I also have a couple of pairs of the girls jeans to shorten, and one pair to lenghten.
