My DD wants to take a sewing class. I called the local fabric store that I know gives classes but they don't have anything for children that young. Does anyone have any ideas? I have trouble sewing on a button, so I certainly can't teach her anything.

Do you have an adult education/continuing education program in your area? Sometimes they offer courses for kids in different arts and crafts areas, as well as the classes for adults.

Is there a YMCA near you???? They may do it?
My Mom use to teach sewing/knitting as a After school program. Maybe uour DD school has something :confused3

Good Luck! :thumbsup2

Does your city have a dept. that does extracurricular programs? You may try them. Our city has dance programs, photography programs, and other programs like that.

Do you have a community center near you? They may have some classes, or try googling sewing lessons in your area.
You may want to try an alteration store near you too, they may know of someone who may teach classes.

If you were near me, I'd teach her. I love to sew, my cousin doesn't know how to sew a button on either, so all of her repairs come to me.

Check with the local city/county parks and rec or the boys/girls club. also check to see if her school or the local comunity has a 4 H club.

another idea is calling a senior center and see if any of the seniors there would like to give you daughter lessons.. thats how a friend of mine learned to knit...

Thank You. I will try those things. It's not something I was ever interested in. My grandmother tried to teach me, but...

Or, children's theatres will often have classes where they teach kids to "tech" shows...building sets, sewing costumes, etc. I worked as a costume designer for a children's theatre during college. I did teach classes to little ones, but I was also willing to have ANY kids, of ANY skill level in the costume shop helping me. I was very happy teaching these kids to sew. You might contact children's theatres in your area and ask.

Also contact any quilt shops in your area. I know the lady that teaches in this area teaches at one fabric store, but does most of her classes at quilt shops in the area.

I learned to sew through 4-H. I started at 10, but I don't remember if there were younger girls involved.

:thumbsup2 That's what we have here. A local quilting store has classes for kids, younger kids need parent participants, but the kids sew quilts to auction off for charity.
