Sew much to do, sew little time - but it was worth it! New PTR link posted! ~~~~~~~~~

I thought of you 5,279 times today so I thought I'd :wave2:

My annual membership in the Disney Tote Bag* Club is getting ready to expire so I'm making another tote bag. Last week I made a prototype. I was trying to use up a spool of white thread so I'd have the satisfaction of adding it to my spool collection (formerly known as Rod).

:moped:

Instead of using muslin or some cheap fabric I have, I sewed together little scraps of fabric to make the fabric for my proto. Not only did the spool make it through that, but I made 30+ quilt squares and 16 pillows for GKTW. I guess I'm not very good at judging when a spool is almost finished. :confused3

I was determined to use up the spool before starting on the Real Bag. (Some people might call that stalling, but I know you wouldn't.)

:scratchin -- or would you?

Anywho, as I'm walking along, singing my song, making my bag I both

::yes:: enjoyed it, and

:tilt: kept thinking, how can anyone make money selling stuff they make?????

That's a rhetorial question, we've discussed before, but I think you should at least triple the amount you get for your bags. (Or hire street urchins to help ((if you have then in MN)) for 25¢ an hour.)

:crowded: <---street urchins in need of a job

:upsidedow

*Have you ever Googled something and "found yourself"? When I Googled Disney tote bag, the first tote bag I made showed up. That's kinda eerie.

:stir:

:crazy2:

The before and after photos are great. And, I can't believe you're thinking about a return trip next year. Hooray!

:donald::donald::donald:

:rotfl2: Cheryl you are too funny. I miss you posting regularly but glad that "ROD" is still around.

And of course I had to google Disney Tote Bag.... but which one is yours. We need pictures please.

I will reply to everyone tomorrow morning... I just wanted to let you all know that we made it home safely. :)

D~

Glad you made it home:goodvibes

Glad you made it home safe and sound! I love the Dory bag and the wallet is just darling. I sent you a PM about the bags.

The now and then pictures are awesome, I have to dig into my old pictures of Disney and see if I have any.

I uploaded pics of our trip to the lake... So, I will post those quickly before I lock myself in my sewing room for the day.

Overall, we had a wonderful trip to the lake. This year was very "low key", as we did very little with the water toys, but rather read and did other things. So, I am just going to post a bunch of random pictures.

MM - of course! He loves lake life!

Tired MM - it's rough being a dog sometimes...

IMG_5904.jpg

As promised, MM's first boat ride... He was very unsure what to think - but then when we got upclose to a whole flock of Birds (He LOVES, LOVES, LOVES anything with wings) he was in a whole new sort of heaven! LOL

This is one of my favorite pictures of him ever:

Then, Josh threw his ball into the lake, and Max couldn't get it - every time MM went to grab it, it would sink. At one point MM had it right up at the shore, but he still couldn't get it. By the time Josh decided to go help - MM had it all the way out in the lake again, and I just LOLed... Teach Josh to throw his ball in the lake.

MM wanted his ball back... LOL

Alli takes some gorgeous pictures with my camera... I only have about 500 from this trip to the lake alone, here's one of them...

IMG_6025.jpg

Alli tubing behind the boat... V went out several times, but I don't have any pictures of her. ???

Josh celebrated his birthday at the lake, so we went out for pizza at Zorbaz... as usual, it was a TOTAL ZOO!

IMG_6053.jpg

The after, we went back to the cabin to have his favorite Rhubarb Cake - courtesy of Victoria.

Grandpa purchased new kayaks for the lake... We've never had them up there before - they are lots of fun!

Even I had to try out kayaking...

Then yesterday morning, as we were packing up, this HUGE flock of geese landed right in front of our dock... Poor MM didn't know what in the world to do - he has never seen such a big Bird in his life... It was just so funny!

I hope you all enjoyed seeing pics of our trip to the lake. :) Thanks for letting me share.

Love your lake pictures! Looks like you all had a great week up there. ::yes:: I hate that Alli got sick again, but it was nice to see she still had some fun! :thumbsup2

beautiful photo of the sunset!
looks like MM is enjoying the lake and boat!
what a wonderful place for you all to relax and recharge!

totally love your lake pictures. That sunset picture is absolutely fabulous.

Looks like you had a great trip to the lake. Lovely red color sky you got a picture of.

Welcome home D~!!!

You have some beautiful pics form your week at the lake! MM is getting giant and his hair is really reddening -- what a beauty -- I mean handsome!

After seeing the stone work on the lake house I have decided you must have the next Dismeet and then I can just stay there until winter comes. I want that house!!!

And no more vacations for you -- you need to stick around and keep a better watch on Cheryl. Someone let her out of the looney bin while you were gone.

Glad you had a good vacation and that you made it back safely. :drive:

Love all the pictures...makes me miss my lake! That house is beautiful :lovestruc

Gorgeous pictures of the lake! Looks like dh had a fun birthday! Grumpy would be in paradise there!!

I love all the pictures of the lake. Looks like a fun place.

Oh and I am sorry about the tubing incident. I am not very confident in the water and I can see something like this happening to me.

Thanks everyone... the lake house actually belongs to my FIL, so it's not something I could use for a Dismeet... Even though it would be so much fun! :thumbsup2

Back in the day, when Josh's great-grandparents were married, his ggfather had to move his ggmother to ND, he promised that one day he would move her back to MN. When they retired, he purchased the cabin as fulfillment of that promise - soooo romantic! It was passed down to Josh's grandmother and her siblings - who branched out all over the nation. His grandmother was really the only one to stay somewhat local. Josh's dad grew up there along with all of his siblings, and eventually Josh grew up there, and now the girls are growing up there. About 10 years ago, Josh's dad bought out all of his aunt's and uncle's portion, at that time, he was going to remodel the old cabin... but it was so old and needed a lot more repairs than what it was worth. So, in 2004 his dad had it torn down.

For 6 years, we did glorified caming in the garage while the new cabin was being built - it was a huge nightmare with a lot of building mistakes - at one point it had to be completely torn down and started over. We moved all the beds into the garage for the duration. We had a fridge, microwave, no running water, no shower - save for the lake, a porta-potty, and cable tv. It was rough when we went up for more than a few days.

2010 was our first summer in the lake house. It was well worth the wait, and it is beautiful - We do love it there! It has a lot of the charm and feeling of the old cabin - Josh's dad built it that way, so when you are there, it still feels right. We are very lucky to be able to use it.

It's very lovely. That must have been pretty stressful when the rebuilt lakehouse had to be torn down. I bet there are some great stories about camping in the garage while it was being built!

What a pretty lake house! The lake looks like it's huge!!

MM looks like he's really enjoying it!! He's a beautiful fur baby!

It was upsetting, because it happened while Josh was in Iraq - it wasn't until he came home that he discovered all the mistakes - so they called in the inspector, and at that point they had to pull down the entire front of the house (and I believe the side walls as well) and rebuild it. Thankfully - this was before the stone masons started their work.

Yah, I would have to say that the year Josh built us the porta-potty is probably the best story. LOL It was the first time we stayed in the garage, and Josh was home on his R&R from Iraq - we weren't thinking when we went up there, and once we got there it was "Doh! Where do we go to the bathroom?" LOL So, Josh had to build us a porta-potty temporarily until one could be delivered. LOL Trust me - I was laughing so hard...

I apologize for the awful pictures... These were taken when a 3MP camera was what we owned. :crazy2:

What a pretty lake house! The lake looks like it's huge!!

MM looks like he's really enjoying it!! He's a beautiful fur baby!

It is one of the larger lakes in MN. :)

And MM loves the lake so much - but let me tell you - he slept the entire way home and he napped all day yesterday - he was one tired pooch!

I love your flip flop tan. ;)

But seriously, the story behind the lake house is so sweet. So happy that you all still get to go out and enjoy it out there.

Sunshine

Thanks! All I ever wear is flip flops - I despise wearing regular shoes. :confused3

I love the story behind the lake house too - it's just so sweet. And I love that we have pictures of so many generations growing up there. The best part, really, is when Josh's dad built - he put so much thought into every little detail. Most especially the window placement and how he arranged the inside. You can be sitting inside the cabin and it feels just like you are sitting in the old cabin, because looking out the windows is the same exact view, and eating at the table, because it is placed in the exact same location, is just like being in the old cabin. It's just very peacefull that way.

Yesterday was just a crazy day here!

I spend almost the entire day in my sewing room. I was able to make good progress on my next bag. :thumbsup2 But because of my work schedule this week, I really need to be extra diligent in there to get it finished.

Josh spent the entire day in the garden - while we were gone it became overgrown with weeds, and a lot of stuff was ready to be picked. We ended up with some fresh carrots, sweet peas, beans and radishes. We also have a salad garden in our yard that we've been cutting fresh lettuce from for a few weeks - I LOVE it!

Then I had to run the girls to my BFF's house - they are staying with her for a few days to help with her garage sale. :thumbsup2

And last night, my next door neighbor and I went out for dinner - it was fun. Then we went grocery shopping... I can't believe how little I got and how expensive it was. Very sad!

I have to work today, fortunately, it's a short shift. I hope to get back here and work for a couple hours in my sewing room.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Love the story of the house, so sweet :goodvibes
your FIL and Josh did a beautiful job on the house, so wonderful he kept the layout the same!
:rotfl: about the portapotty, Josh can building anything!

yay for your garden being full of veggies, bummer about the weeds!

hope work goes quick, looking foward to your next bag

What a beautiful story about the lake house! I just love all the pictures of the girls when they were little at the old cabin. And Josh building that portapotty...:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: What a great guy! Of course, him being on leave from Iraq, that wasn't "roughing it" at all! :lmao:

I hope you have a great day at work today D~! Thanks for giving us something to smile about each and every day. I really do enjoy your TR!
