I just bought an LCD television online a few days ago and I am almost certain it was mispriced. It retails for $1,299 and most online stores were selling it for around $900 to $1,000. I found a fairly reputable website selling it for $105. (Maybe they intended to price it at $1,050 but forgot the last zero?) I read over all the details carefully, made sure it was not used or refurbished. Clearly stated "brand new" with warrantry. So needless to say I jumped on this and paid with my credit card. It's been a couple days and the store hasn't contacted me yet, but I am afraid they might any day now and refuse to honor the price advertised. What can I do so I am prepared? Do they have a right to refuse the sale? Do I have the right to demand they honor it?

That depends on the website and their terms and conditions. It's hard to tell if they will ship the order or not. Good luck! I hope you get the deal.

They do not have to honor an error that is likely a typo, where an item is grossly underpriced. If you no longer want the item at the correct price, the honorable thing to do is simply cancel the order.

But lots of companies DO honor typos as a way of maintaining good consumer relations.

I would not say anything unless they did.

Can you post a link?

The link doesn't work anymore. Maybe they noticed the error and removed it, or only had 1 in stock. I'll have to wait and see..

I assume you do have a printed receipt, right? Does the price still say $105 on-line? If so, you might want to copy the screen shot of that page as well. I'm not sure that they will honor the price but it's worth a shot.

Something "similar" happened to me. Although not quite the same thing, I did end up getting a great deal. A few years ago, a friend spotted a special price for the Renaissance Hotel in Times Square, NYC. The hotel special was $159 per night. In order to get this price, you had to pay in advance with no refunds. I plugged in the dates for Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. The rooms were available at that price. I couldn't believe it! A hotel in Times Square for New Years Eve at that price! I've always wanted to go to NYC for New Years so I jumped on it.

When we arrived at the hotel, the desk clerk looked at our rate and said that the price was a mistake. The going rate was around $400+. Even the manager was shocked. We stood firm and said that we prepaid and this is what we we agreed to. After consulting with "higher-ups" the manager conceded and said that they had to honor the price.

Good luck with your situation. I hope you are able to get it at that fantastic price. :thumbsup2

I'm pretty sure they are not legally obligated to honor mistakes on online shopping outlets. It leaves them way to vulnerable to hackers going in and changing prices and the companies being stuck

That may be true. However, if the item is shipped and nile455 is charged $1,050 instead of $105 without anyone contacting him/her then I would think the on-line company would have to honor the price or pay to have the item shipped back to the company.

nile455 - have you called you cc company to see if the charge went through yet?

The charge has not gone through yet, and it likely will not go through. They just sent me this email...

Dear Customer,
We have to apologise for the glitch on our site - we do not have and did not have this model and it has been shown by mistake. It is not availble and we are not able to get it.
We have to cancel your order.
Please accept our apologies for accidental listing of unavailable model.

Funny how they don't mention the price as being the reason they had to cancel the order but instead claim they never even had this item. Yeah right...
