............Lack Of Disney Depression
Hi everyone! Got back from the world last Thursday- talk about coming back down to earth after an amazing two weeks staying at POP Century. Did nothing but the four WDW parks for two weeks and STILL haven't seen everything (what a shame- I'll have to go back).
POP is brilliant- every single one of the possible problems didn't materialise. Sometimes judging by the resorts board you'd think it was a collection of garden sheds. The rooms were easily large enough (for three of us) and werent that far off the size of the four star rooms I've stayed in previously on I-Drive. We had room 7469- in the 80's section with a pool view on the top floor (exactly as requested). The grounds and rooms are spotless with brilliant Disney-fied theming (we were right next door to Roger Rabbit). Everything Pop (the food court) had a big enough selection- and the food was *drools* delicious; I invite everyone to make a dash for the "Chicken Penne Alfredo" - or chicken and pasta to you and me.
I think my new second favourite attraction is actually a classic that I neglected on previous trips- the Carousel of Progress. What a shame that Disney is letting it fall into disrepair: SORT IT OUT!! Mickey's Philharmagic was a pleasant surprise (after expecting just another 3D film) and of course, I beat my own record for a single trip by riding Splash Mountain 10 times exactly. WISHES is a vast improvement over Fantasy in the Sky- and we were treated to a silent version on the 17th when the music became stuck half way through before disappearing all together.
Soarin at Epcot- WOW! If you havent been on it, go just for that (but its not as much fun on the back row when youve got a nice view of feet and the floor on occasions). Ellens Energy Adventure in the Universe of Energy was another of those Why havent I been on this before? moments.
My stomach is still in the Studios thanks to venturing (finally) onto Rock n Rollercoaster and the Tower of Terror. One word of advice if youre like me prior to this trip, if youre thinking of riding them for the first time one after the other .DONT!! I may just be pathetically unsuited to thrill rides but I couldnt walk in any other fashion than that of Goofy for the rest of the day. (Great fun though). Lights Motors Action was (insert another extremely positive adjective here) fantastic, but was let down by the constant whining of the director (yes, we know its not a film shoot so please drop the act). Not wanting to sound too negative, the action itself is edge of your seat stuff especially for petrol heads.
Didnt spend as much time at AK but spent enough time to fit in the favourites. Lucky the dinosaur is well worth a watch if youre there before the end of July. Festival of the Lion King is still the best show in all of WDW.
Now to the only downsides- Excel Airways and SOUTH AMERICAN TOUR GROUPS- AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAgh. A group from Paraguay completely and utterly ruined Spectromagic for everyone within about 15 miles- chanting Oi Oi Oi Oi Oi Oi!!!!! for the duration you know theres something wrong when you cant hear the parade music and you know how loud thats piped in. I felt so sorry for a few families around us; their first (and possibly only time who knows?) seeing the parade only to have it ruined. The best part of that night I think was when the blue Fairy actually ignored the group chanting and waving- just turned to face our side of the curb (sadly that was the only character that did anything to discourage them, not that they knew how ignorant they were being). And another night at Fantasmic about 4 or 5 groups from Brazil chanting against each other for the entire 2 hours before the show- totally ignorant until an American group behind us started chanting back USA USA USA USA!! (Yes I joined in- that shut them up).
As for Excel Airways- what a joke. In short, flight there= disgusting/ flight back= much better. Aside from the least amount of legroom in the history of aviation (doubt it would be legal to give animals that amount of space) and a hole (yes a gaping hole with air coming through it) in the plane wall which is never great for a nervous flyer the outbound flight crew were the most miserable and rude bunch of people you could have the misfortune to meet. Practically throwing your food at you and seeing you as an unfortunate distraction rather than the priority they spent most of the time chatting to each other. One lady with a baby asked for some water and the attendant had the cheeck to storm off and say IN A MINUTE * huff* * huff*. The return flight was a thousand percent better- same tatty plane but what a difference a pleasant and motivated crew makes.
..hmmm this may qualify for the most long winded post ever sorry!! Basically apart from a few tour groups (were they the infamous cheer leaders??- I thought they were down in November ish) and a miserable outbound crew it was the best WDW trip yet!!
Any questions I can help anyone with ?
