Several questions about searching airfare...

Two questions:

1. Why is it cheaper to have a connecting flight than to drive to the airport the connecting flight would be at and have a nonstop flight on the same flight that you would have connected to? (Originate RDU, connect CTL, arrive Orlando is cheaper than originating in CLT and arriving in Orlando - same flight as above)

2. Anyone know if you can search for a flight based on flight number. I've found some flights from airgorilla.com that I'm not getting by searching Delta site for the date? I don't see anyway to put in a flight number... Do I have to call?

Thanks!

Depends on the market. Prices are set that way. I know, it makes no sense, but, that is the way it is. ;)

Not that I know of, but, you can make a mock reservation and see what the flight numbers are at the time and date you want to travel. If they don't show up, I am afraid you will have to call.

you can try this link. https://www.delta.com/schedules/travel/reservations/flight_sched/index.jsp

Thanks!

Did you know that you have to pay an automation fee of 18.93 per ticket? You might be better off going through the specific airline for your tickets. This looks like a bit of a rip off.

You might want to check Southwest air. Right now a round trip non stop is running 156. per person total. That is approx. 32.43 per person less than your site for the Delta and airtran combo.

When you go to the Delta Reservations page, and are searching for flights, click on the "specific times" button. This will give you all the flights near the time you're looking for. If you don't click this button, it will only give you the lowest fares. Note that this button is not on the Delta home page, you have to go to Travel/Reservations.

As to your first question, no one knows the ansewer except the airlines and they are not telling. I agree it makes no sense, but.... Don't plan on skipping the first flight and just meeting the plane at the connecting airport, you ticket will have been cancelled.
