1. Should we go in June or July? Is there much of a difference in the two times?

2. What airport should we fly into?

3. Should we request a certain area of the DVC or is it all fairly comparable?

4. Tell me anything else that I should know! (We're mainly going so DH can golf. Don't know what DD8 & I will be doing.)

We stayed last year during Thanksgiving week and had a blast. We flew into Savannah and drove from there. Don't have any thoughts on June or July as we have not been in the summer months. The resort layout is great from just about any building. Most buildings have great views of Broad creek and the marsh. You can either be close to the pool or close to the lodge building. the beach house is shuttle bus or bike ride away and the beach is great for biking. This is our kids favorite thing to do there. We kayak, mini-golf, swim, dolphin watch, do the events on site which are all well run and lots of fun. I am sure some HH pros will respond with much more info for you . HHI gets a big thumbs up from us.

We are thinking of going there for Thanksgiving '08. How is the weather? It's either there or back to WDW. We love the holiday season at the world, but since joining dvc, we might want to try other places too. Were they decorated for the holidays?

We just got back from HH. I would think that June would be slightly cooler than July. OUr next trip will NOT be in August (too hot for me)

The cheapest fares appeat to be flying into Savannah. There is an airport on HH, but I've heard fares can be high because not many comercial airlines fly there.

The resort is very compact. We've been in Bldg 16, which is very convenient to the shuttle, the Lodge, and walking over to Shelter Cove Harbourside which has a good number of shops and restaurants. This past trip, we were in Bldg 28 which is very convenient to the pool and to the Community Hall/Mercantile/snack bar.

They have lots of activities for 8 year olds--pool games, nature trips, tye-dyeing shirts, etc.

If your DH is going to golf, does he have specific courses in mind? DH has golfed at HHI many times at different courses. The ones right across the street, Palmetto Dunes (there are 3 courses to choose from) seem like really good choices.
LOVETHATMOUSE-if you want to go Thanksgiving time, I hope you own points there so you can get the 11 month window. It's always sold out. We've had trouble gettin a 1 BR at the 7 month window, and no luck with the wait list, probably related to the fact that there are so few 1 BRs there.

Hey Mouse
We have been to HH for the last 2 years (and are going again this year) during Thanksgiving week and have had a blast. The weather has ranged from raining and cold like 50's to beautiful sun and 70 degrees thanksgiving day 2 years ago. Our kids have gone into the ocean every year (they're nuts), and we all swim in the pools, bike along the beach and the island, kayak and just have a great time in general. it's not you're typical beach vacation but we love it that time of year. Last year the decorations were going up the day we left which was just after Thanksgiving day.

1) June or July I think would be great. We have reserved a June week for next year. Both are prime time on the island with lots of activities going on. Since your DH will be golfing, June may be slightly cooler for a game. We just went two weeks ago and had heat indexes of 118 to 120 and DH who loves to golf choose not too b/c of the heat. I think June next year will be better for him to golf. :)

2)HHI does have an airport but as another posted noted flights are more expensive flying into it rather than Savannah.

3)The entire resort if very compact. We were given a room in the building right next to the main lodge and at first I was disappointed at not being near the pool. However, we then walked over to the pool and found it a pleasant and not a long walk at all. (I think the BWV hallways may be longer)!!!:rotfl: Since we were in the building next to the lodge we had elevator access which was key with one little one still in a stroller. (other building have no elevator access).

4)You will have plenty to do at the resort and beach area for you and DD. They have activities going on constantly throughout the day and evening. Plus there is fun just going to the beach and pool. We were just there two weeks ago and it was so hot we only wanted to be in the water. We spent our mornings on the beach and in the beach house pool and our late afternoon/evenings in the resort pool. Don't miss the Tues. night pool party!!! My 6yo DD had such a blast dancing. There were lots of tweens having such an awesome time!! :)
