MGM questions....

1. where is Al's Toy Barn? can't find it on the map.
Is it just a meet and greet area?
(also...how is is it different from MK Diamond Horseshoe?)

2. Costumes at MGM shops...can you get the same ones at downtown Disney big shop?

3. Can you take icecream or snacks into Beauty & the Beast theatre to have while you wait for show or do they sell snacks inside?

4. Do they sell snacks inside Fantasmic show prior to show while you are waiting? What do they sell? Can you bring them in on your own? If they sell snacks, can you use the dining plan snack ticket?

5. working on MGM tour....have not included in Great Movie Ride, Backlot tour, or magic of Dis Animation. Which of these would you pick? Will use just as fillers for afternoon or after Hollywood & Vine dinner before Fantasmic. (Kids are 3, 4, 7, 7)

I can't answer many of your questions but here's two:

yes, they sell food in the fantasmic amphitheatre and yes you can bring stuff in.

Choose the Great Movie Ride, of the three you mentioned. There's more to keep the little ones engaged.

NB

Al's Toy Barn is kinda tucked behind Star Tours and Muppets. I hope that helps, we ran all over last year trying to find Buzz!

1.) Al's Toy Barn is located near the exit from MuppetVision 3D. It is a place to meet Buzz and Woody. I believe Jessie is there on occassion.

2.) Yes, the costumes shops are the same as the one's in Downtown Disney. I do not believe there are any exclusive to MGM.

3.) You can take snacks in but I don't believe they sell snacks in the show area. You have to carry them with you or run back out.

4.) Same with Fantasmic. They do not sell them in the seating area but you can bring them with you. There are a few stands fairly close to the seating area that sell ice creams, drinks, typical snack stands.

5.) I would certainly pick the Great Movie Ride but it is on our must do list. The Backlot Tour and Magic of Disney Animation are not overly interesting, especially to the younger ones.

Okay, here's my 2 cents:

1) We had a REALLY hard time finding Al's Toy Barn. It's REALLY tucked in behind everything. It is listed on my map from Jan04, and it's shown as right next to Mama Melrose restaurant. There's also a smoking area symbol, and a Mickey hand symbol pointing at the barn structure. Hope this helps!!

3) No snacks to buy in Beauty & the Beast, but you can bring them in.

4) There are snack places inside Fantasmic (you don't have to exit the whole theatre, which is quite a walk). Not alot, but there were a couple of different choices. You can bring snacks in, too.

5) Actually, we prefer the backlot tour! Given the choice on our last trip (kids 6, 8 & 9) they chose Backlot over GMR. Backlot is in the very back (imagine that!) of the park, though, so you may want to consider the walk.

Al's Toy Barn is located across from the exit of Muppetvision 3D (right past Pizza Planet).
It's just a meet-n-greet area at select times.

I'm sure inventory differs to some extent but the shop "In Character", located in the Animation Courtyard, is a good place to start.

Absolutely.

Yes, there is a concession stand inside the theater. You can find a description, pictures and a menu at http://www.mgmstudios.org/food/hollyhills.html

Kids will enjoy Magic of Disney animation most more than likely, followed by Great Movie Ride and Backlot Tour.

Great movie ride can be a little scary for little ones, the alien, snakes and gunfire.

I had forgotten about the Alien in the GMR. I do recall our little ones (5 & 6) were frightened by the Alien the first time. Now they think he is kinda funny. Anyway, that may be a good reason to go a different route.

i have to disagree about the magic of disney animation. i was absolutly in love with that when i was a child (around 7/8) and it is one of the things that inspired me to becoming an animator. however they still had the real studio back then so it could be less cool now. :sad2:

and i was also scared of the alien part on GMR. however i got over it pretty quickly so who knows. think about how your kids handle stuff like that.

my kids LOVED the backlot tour and the great movie ride - we haven't done the animation tour yet - but probably will in October

I'd agree with you if the Animation Tour was the same as when you first saw it, but now it's a quite watered down. I'm not sure it'd hold a child's attention as much as GMR.

Just wanted to let you know if you were looking for Buzz at Al's toy barn. It is a zoo over there the line is always long, and the characters take breaks (in the summer) every 7 to 10 min So they see like 2 to 3 kids and go in for a break It is understandable because it must be a sauna in those costumes, but very nerveracking for a Mom of three under the ages of 6. Just be sure to get yourself and the kids a drink (they sell frozen lemonade around there usually), something to occupy the kiddo's in line (bubbles are a good one, just make sure they are not blowing them on the people behind them). Try not to go around lunchtime, the sun is killer!!!
