Seven Dwarves Mine Train

I recently asked my mom some questions about our trips to WDW in the early '80s and one thing she told me really stood out: When asked if my sister or I had input in our family touring plans each day or whether my parents just said, "we're going this way, be quiet," my mom said that there weren't as many choices then as there are now. Although that seems obvious, it should really resonate here. 30 years ago, there were two parks. No AK, no HS at all. No DTD. No water parks. There were two resorts: Poly and Contemporary. Look how much WDW has grown in 30 years! And we squabble about one ride?!

Actually, Ft. Wilderness (resort) opened in 1971, River Country (water park) opened in 1976, Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village (DTD) opened in 1975, and Discovery Island/Treasure Island (zoological park) opened in 1974. There were also lots of other activities to take part in outside of the parks, including concerts at the Top of the World Supper Club at Contemporary, massive arcade at Contemporary, train ride at Ft. Wilderness, water ski shows on Bay Lake, etc.

The bottom line here is that Uni is marketing to teens and older folks who want the Thrill rides. Yes they did a great job on Harry, no question about it, of course it was a slam duck to any park with the money, with the Potter base, (the question is in 10 years will it be around with no new books or movies).

Oh, I don't know....when was Snow White released? They are building a brand new kiddie coaster featuring it so I would think Potter will be around just as long.

And yes rarely do you hear that the rest of the IOA and the Uni park did not have much of a attendance interest or bump.

Until June or July of 2014 when Potter 2.0 opens....vs the bump (?) Disney will see when the Mine Train opens?

Disney made some big mistakes the last 4 year with Igor's book keepers cutting the budget on maintenance and limited new attractions. However if you looked around 2 year ago, you noticed a big change. All the complaints about long major refits of the Disney major attractions were the sign that they woke up and are spending the money again to bring things back up to Walt's standards.

Yes, and don't forget the interactive ques they've put in place too. That will help people pass the time during the whole FP+ nonsense phase.

Looking ahead at Star Wars which will be another major attendance draw like Car land and the other work on CA.

I will wait until they "announce" that at D23....oh wait....:lmao: If they build something like that then I will go. I just hope it can be completed by the time my Grandkids are my age

Avatar (which I personally don't see the Disney connection, but that is just my opinion), a WDW Car land or car attraction at least, and other resorts.

Yeah....Avatar...winner winner chicken dinner....who actually cares to see that in AK....and once again, WHEN will that even break ground?

Last point I will make is that the Disney product, whether its the parks, movies, ships, etc, etc, etc, has the Disney magic and pixie dust. There is no way around it, Disney is special.

Unless of course you count their two biggest bombs ever within 2 years of one another.....John Carter and The Lone Ranger...I don't believe the GP felt they were all that special or magical.

Some like to be rude and snarky and use terms like kool aid and funboi and apologist, which is all they can do, after Potter is discussed.

I prefer to call it a DIScussion....hence what Discussion boards are for. I have enough experience with Disney to back up what I feel. I'm not someone who went to Disney once and stated Uni was way better. You may like Kool-Aid...I don't. We shouldn't discount my reasoning because of it, and likewise.

Also, the Golf Resort (later Disney Inn and much later Shades of Green) opened in 1973...

Oh, I don't know....when was Snow White released? They are building a brand new kiddie coaster featuring it so I would think Potter will be around just as long.

Yes and it was released to the theaters many times had many story books, specials and is still a winner. Potter is $4.00 in the stores and not selling much

Until June or July of 2014 when Potter 2.0 opens....vs the bump (?) Disney will see when the Mine Train opens?

Maybe it will and maybe it won't, the rest of IOA and Uni did not get the bump with the first one. The mine train is one ride in a massive park. Remember its not one e ride or land, its the whole experience from driving in and leaving.

Yes, and don't forget the interactive ques they've put in place too. That will help people pass the time during the whole FP+ nonsense phase.

Your opinion no factual back up

I will wait until they "announce" that at D23....oh wait....:lmao: If they build something like that then I will go. I just hope it can be completed by the time my Grandkids are my age

I really don't know if there will be anything announced at D23, but when you spend 4 Billion you use it to the fullest. Mocking is not factual

Yeah....Avatar...winner winner chicken dinner....who actually cares to see that in AK....and once again, WHEN will that even break ground?

Again no facts, just shooting blind, part of my point after Potter, there is not anything further to say.

Unless of course you count their two biggest bombs ever within 2 years of one another.....John Carter and The Lone Ranger...I don't believe the GP felt they were all that special or magical.

Seems all studies have made bad movies, yet when you compare that Ironman 3 and Monsters 2 has already grossed 1.6 billion and growing and that's only 2 movies, I don't think Disney is upset, not to mention their stock is up again.

Again mocking and baiting others is meaningless and does nothing to give meaning to your points.

Mad Hattered. I'm not asking this to be mean or rude I am genuinely curious so please understand that. Do you even like Disney anymore? I realize you have been going for many years and many trips but it seems by your posts that you don't enjoy it any longer. Is that the case? And if so, why do you keep going. I know some people grow out of things or get over them or get bored so its not a problem. I'm just wondering and I'm not being confrontational at all just seriously wondering. I know some people that once was enough or they used to go all the time and got burnt out and I'm still friends with them.

Hi Ms. Jennylyn.

I agree with your post. I also find that most, not all the folks, who really like UNI, seems to have this NEED to put down/mock and be rude about Disney and anyone who enjoys Disney.

My family and I enjoyed Potter, we go every few trips to Uni and have since 1990. We just enjoy Disney more and love the Magic.

There was also the water light parade on the lakes, dinner and music cruises on the side wheeled steam boats at night. There was the fishing trips, skiing and other water stuff, camp fires on the beachs since opening.

This is how we feel. I like Uni just fine. but we're a Disney family.

I've been to Disney way more than I have been to Universal. I've been there yearly (sometimes 3 times a year) since 1972. I can't remember exactly how many times because for the last 7 years it all just runs together. There is a reason for that.....it's called lazy and uninspired. So yeah, I guess I was a fanboi....then I realized that one cannot always view it through rose-colored glasses. Oh, and sugar is not good for you...
Clearly you missed my point -- I meant that, based on your post, you seemed to be quite the fanboi for UNIVERSAL. You seemed to be using the term "fanboi" as an insult, but then you seemed to be one yourself. That was my point. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Thanks for the cool Kool-Aid graphic. But honestly ... the "Kool-Aid" thing is so overused. Here you are going on and on that Disney is lazy and unispired, and you're trumpeting (multiple times, I might add) pretty much the lamest and most tired metaphor on the boards. What's up with that?

Look ... if you think Disney is lazy and uninspired, then you have all the right in the world not to go. If they build something next year that you love well ... then you can come back and Disney will be happy to see you again. If you never ever go back because whatever Universal does is so freakin' phenomenal that you want it to be your only theme park experience for the rest of your life, then that's okay too.

But really ... you've made your point. It's taking Disney forever to build a kiddie coaster while Universal is pumping out high-tech attractions at the speed of light. We get it. Wouldn't you be happier on the Universal section of the DIS?

:earsboy:

Walt Disney world is a resort destination. I have been 18 times and I still have not done everything and am impressed still with the theming, cast members, beauty and authenticity of the whole place. How many people from overseas come for 20+ days at a time.

You can put Universal, Cedar Point, Dollywood, any Six Flags, Silver Dollar City, Great America's, Sea World, Holiday World and any other amusement park in the country in a great big barrell and nobody would want to stay there for 20+ days. No how, no way.

Thing is, I wanted to really like Universal, but having been three times, I still view it as a 2 day adventure at the most no matter how you slice it. And that's even staying at one at any of their hotels.

Point blank, Disney is a destination, Universal is a side trip for us. But, I don't go over to any Uniboards (do they even exist :confused3) and lecture people who like it. I let them enjoy their fun. No need to be a grumpy old guy that is in a hole. :thumbsup2

Ok, so I didn't list EVERYTHING on WDW property. I Listed the things that my family actually went to every summer during the entire 1980s. And that there was an arcade at the Contemporary isn't really something in addition to the Contemporary resort. It was part of it. It's like naming the luau at the Polynesian& Yes I know that was there, as part of the Polynesian resort. I went to it.

The point was that Walt Disney World has massively expanded in the last 30 years and has continued to grow. It's easy to overlook but when you really think about it there are a ton more options to do there than there were when I was a kid.

We're actually a very nice group of helpful people who try to counsel all those WDW folks to maximize their fun at the Universal Parks. We get plenty of people coming over and telling us how inferior Universal is, you may as well come and join the fun!

Oh and many of us have annual passes, so for us it is certainly a destination!!!

It sure does seem to upset people when all of a sudden so many visitors are saying that they wish WDW would be doing things the way Universal is.

This thread got me to thinking...

Before Disboards, I never knew anything was wrong with WDW!! I simply enjoyed each and every trip. I come here to get my fix, answer a few questions, ask a few questions, etc... But I also spend a lot of time reading threads that inevitably descend into "Here's why I hate WDW" or "Here's why Universal is better" or "I saw a paint chip on a railing in the MK and I'm never going back!"

This place already got me to hate DisneyQuest, and I've never even been there!!

Lighten up, people! I seriously think the mods should separate Disboards into "Negative" and "Positive" forums! :lmao: Sadly, it would be divided equally. And now I'm complaining about the complaining. Enough.

Seriously! And I started this thread just cause I wanted to know if anyone had an ear to the ground on the development of the ride. I never expected it to turn into an all out Universal vs Disney war.

I' still love WDW and can't wait to go back. Have they done stuff that made me unhappy? Sure. I don't think I've ever been to *any* vacation destination that was 100% perfect. But I can tell you they still do a pretty darn good job of making me and my family happy and keeping us in that bubble... ( we'll see once FP+ rolls out... )

Yes, y'all certainly are! Mainstays such as yourself were very helpful to me a few years ago when I was learning the Universal ropes. :goodvibes

I don't take it personal, jenny...actually none of this at all. I didn't mean to start flames wars but apparently I did. To answer your question, yes, I suppose we are burnt out on it after visiting so many times. To US it has lost some of the magic and I fault US and Disney for that. Perhaps Disney is doing enough for others, that's fine. Our take it different, that's all. I don't feel like rewarding a company with my money when it appears it's just taken for granted.

Some people are KOOL (;) for WDSearcher) with Disney the way it is. I know how it used to be and the more we've gone we find that it's just not close to being the same. Whether that be the attitude of the CMs, the cleanliness, the maintenance cuts and so on. Now, that is not to say that Uni is better at any of those things I just mentioned, not at all. But if I am expected to pay more and more for the same ole same ole, and in my opinion, much worse experience, then it doesn't make sense to go there. We were there in March and that will be our last trip for a very very long time (maybe a new land or ride will built by then ;))

This whole FP+ thing is another reason we won't pay the Mouse. I like to come and read what the responses are to that fiasco (IMHO). It's like a train wreck waiting to happen and maybe I am just anxious for them to actually pull out of the station so we can witness the carnage. We visit Theme/Amusement parks all over the country so this isn't a Disney vs Uni thing at all with US. We are just willing to spend money where we think it's being invested in our best interests. That pretty much sums it up.

And we are sitting on 16 days worth of Non-Expiring Hopper tickets, too!

I went to Universal Forum on Disboards once, just to see what people there talk about. popcorn:: I certainly didn't bother to post, but I was quickly bored and realized there wasn't anything for me. I would find it a bit rude if I did go and post about how awful it is (especially because I've never been there.) I would be equally irritated if someone went to the DVC section and posted how much they hate DVC (Oh wait, there is plenty of self-hate in that forum).

Then don't. Don't reward the company. But also, don't poison the well for people for whom WDW is still a magical place and Disboards is a fun place to discuss tips, tricks, plans, and rumors. A F-U-N place.

So, YOU'RE the "I saw paint chip on a railing in MK and I'm never going back" type?

This whole FP+ thing is another reason we won't pay the Mouse.

FP+ doesn't exist yet. And you don't yet know how it will affect you. And it is necessary for the future increased numbers of visitors, even if it is minus one.

Well we love both parks! We alternate annual passes. This year was Universal. Those expire in September then we do free dining and hop on the Disney train for a year. Back to universal next September just in time for HHN. I've worked it so we do that awesome party every year!:cheer2:
