Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

FJ is an impressive ride...but I also cannot ride it. Makes me violently ill even on prescription meds (the transdermal scop patch). I was so sick after that ride it almost destroyed the rest of the day and I LOVE coasters and thrill rides.

I had you in mind when I just wrote that bit. ;)

I should've had DH take a picture of me. I was unaware that anything living could turn that color.

Why can't you ride the ride? Is it the motion sickness that gets to you? Yes They recently tamed the ride down from it's original format if that is the case. But I know it affects people in different ways. I doubt it would be tamed down enough for me. I've read plenty of stories. Personally, I always take Dramamine before visiting any park these days. I'm sure it has nothing to do with me getting older. :) Dramamine will put me to sleep.

Dragon's Challenge (ala Dueling Dragons) was originally supposed to be in Animal Kingdom. I think Universal could have done a better job of theming that coaster but that is not a deal breaker for me. It is not the themeing I have a problem with.

What WWOH has, that most people enjoy, is an extremely impressive overall reproduction of what readers envisioned when they read the books. I've made it clear that I never read the books or was even a big fan. But DW was moved by the books and it captivated her.

I love the books and movies. That is why we book our last trip, so I could see the theming. I loved the walk through the castle. It was so funny when we got near the ride/chicken entrance. DH gave me the backpack and many other items. I was "loaded down". The ride operator was trying to kindly tell me that I could not ride with all that stuff and started to point me to the locker area.. Before he could finish, I told him I was not riding but taking the chicken exit.

What Cinderella's Castle means to a lot of people when they walk up Main Street USA....yeah, there are a lot of people who get those same butterflies when they walk up to Hogsmeade. Just because I personally don't fully understand it, doesn't make it any less impressive. I was converted after I fully understood that.

Neither gives me butterflies. I loved seeing both.

Disney had the first crack at landing the HP franchise but were too stubborn/arrogant to let JK Rowling call the shots. I think Disney made the right decision. The size of the shops and street were the direct result of Rowling. She made it "real", whether you agree with it or not. The "real" has made me less interested in returning. It was built to her scale, how she envisioned it and there was no way around that. This is exactly why I think Disney made the right decision. What drink did you order when you had counter service? Water, what I usually drink. DH and I tried the regular and frozen butterbeer and the pumpkin juice. The pumpkin juice tasted just like apple juice to me. We both loved the frozen BB. I know it wasn't a Coke or the likes. Rowling wouldn't allow that. That area is basically the epitome of all theming. But the best is yet to come...around the same time the Mine Train coaster opens. The best to me is a ride I can actually ride. The Mine Train will win for me.

I will just say this about the staying onsite part. When you say the boat ride only cut out a short walk back to your resort, was it about the same distance you'd walk to a Disney bus stop at any given resort or park?

It was not the length of the walk but the amount of time I waited for the boat ride and then the surprise I found when we got out and had to walk a longer way than I expected. I was not bothered by the walk or the walk at Disney, just not how it was presented to us by the resort. After the first time we just went with the flow, just like at Disney.

:lmao:

Perhaps you were the kind stranger on the bench outside the ride who saw my desperate state and gave me a bottle of water? All this time I was assuming he was Jesus in disguise come to save me...

That just might have been me.;) When I smuggled my wine disguised as Crystal Light into the parks that day, little did I know I would be called into action. I prefer to work miracles in reverse. :goodvibes

I think Disney would disagree with that. ;)

A park that was that small, would never work at Disney. Had she been more open to changes and making it larger, then I would agree with you. It would have also been built at Disney.

We stayed away for over a year due to the long lines.

We love Seuss landing.

It's funny, one ride on FJ makes me a little woozy, but doesn't take me out of the game. But two rides in a row? Yeah, I need a break after that ride. And a usually a Diet Coke.

But it's not a park....it's a land. It's almost the same size as Adventureland at MK. I just think Disney would have tried to push another Mickey Bar or sell a shirt with Harry wearing Mickey ears.

I agree about Seuss. That is another very well themed land. I just wish the Green Eggs and Ham sandwich was better. :)

I meant land. I have been there and I know it is not a park. I really think is should have been a park with more room.

We wanted to try the Green Eggs and Ham sandwich, but the restaurant was closed when we were in Seuss Landing.

So what you and Jenn are saying is, we shouldn't hit Happy Hour in the Backwater bar at Confisco Grill and then go ride it? Can we all go on Hulk instead? I'd be down with that.;)

Hahaha, no. It took me decades to conquer Disney's dinky coasters. There's no way you're getting me on Hulk. No big drops for me! I'll take my FJ with a side of nausea, thankyouverymuch. :thumbsup2

What ride is FJ? Sorry to hear you got so ill from it.

Even if I ask nicely? :flower3: You can trust me. :thumbsup2

Yes, but sadly unlike Disney, it doesn't have you wait 45 minutes for a magical overcrowded bus ride with diesel fumes.

Instead they have a 20 minute or less wait for a relaxing, un-magical boat ride, passing by beautiful foliage and scenery. Of course, all of the parks are within walking distance, so you can always walk to your destination instead.

But it's too bad that Universal doesn't offer the magical bus ride experience, the one that keeps you away from the "real world"

I've had multiple people respond to this on a variety of different pages without anyone getting my point.

WDW has close to or over 30 resorts on property. Universal has 4 soon to be 5 maybe 6. My point? The size. Universal is no where near the size of WDW. And to me, and this is just to me not trying to force this opinion on anyone just sharing mine, I think the size helps to make it more of an escape from the real world. When I vacation, part of what I look for is an escape from the real world. I think WDW does a great job of providing that which is why they still get my vacation dollars.

As for the bus vs. boat, first off I am not going to decide my vacation on buses vs boats. But if you look at my signature, I have stayed at only resorts where some sort of boat transportation is an option too. Most of my trips have been to FW or WL where we take a boat to the MK. Yes, we have to take buses too, but the buses don't bother me. When you have an area as large as WDW you need something more than a boat to get around. Universal can have boats everywhere because they are so small.
