Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

But let's be honest here. If you truly are wanting to rediscover your childhood I would say most anyone in their 30s and 40s were MUCH more likely to have had Spider-man and Dr. Seuss in their childhoods than Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh.

Jason

I had lots of pooh in my childhood.

This is where you lose me. I think you are right that most people don't go to WDW just for the rides. People think about the atmosphere (characters, music, shows, restaurants) for sure. But there is a lot of room between atmosphere and saying your vacation isn't complete unless you go to a long list of hotels to look at their lobbies and landscaping. But you don't seem to see the difference between the two. I don't have to poll everyone at WDW this year to know that very few consider resort touring a major reason for their visit. You're very, very defensive about your right to vacation how you like (you've said it probably a dozen times on this thread). But I don't think anyone here has questioned your right to choose your vacation. What they have questioned - or, more specifically, tried to convince you of - is that you're an outlier. Your vacation priorities are rare and therefore it isn't really fair of you to suggest that just because these changes don't really bother you, they shouldn't really bother anyone.

This exactly. I could type up a response but this is what I would write anyways.

The rides and the parks themselves are the major draw. If it ever got to the point where the parks were slacking so much that less people are visiting, the offsite "activities" like visiting hotels will not draw in the crowds that the parks lost.

:thumbsup2

Again, just because I like a certain type of vacation that not many others agree with here does not automatically make me close minded or a know it all. I shared my side of things and why I continue to go to WDW and there is nothing wrong with that. I respect people who prefer Universal now or think WDW needs to improve because they can spend their money how they want, I just wanted to share a different side of things than many others were. My bad for disagreeing with the minority on how I want to vacation :confused3

No, but IMO repeatedly insisting that no one needs to use Fastpasses at all (unless the crowds reach intense levels deemed acceptable by you) does.

I don't feel that way at all. Spidey and Dr. Seuss might be more recent, but Mickey and Pooh are so prolific. I remember them strongly from my childhood, not so much Spider-Man (until I got into comics as an older child).

I am 35. If they really wanted to connect with MY childhood, they'd have He-Man, Thundercats, G.I. Joe and Voltron worlds. Those are what my childhood revolved around. Point to Uni for having Transformers, but there was also Duck Tales and plenty of Disney stuff around too.
Ahhh, the 80's! :goodvibes

LOL SO true! For me it would be Strawberry shortcake, Rainbow Bright and Care Bears.

I still miss the Rescue Rangers. :-(

You shouldn't write DLR off so quickly. We just got back last month and rediscovered our love for Disney. There is a magic to being in Walt's home park that any Disney fan cannot escape.

:thumbsup2

It's our favorite Disney park and will always be.

What did you think of their Fantasyland as opposed to WDW's?
Quite a difference, eh?

No comparison. Won't be, even when the mine coaster opens. Fantasyland at DL is just the best place on Earth. :goodvibes

Every time we go to DL, then back to the MK, I go to Fantasyland and say "Is this really IT? It takes some getting used to so many fewer things to do again.

Of course, my daughter is still trying to adjust to the puny castle. ;) But she's over it enough to say she'll be very disappointed if we choose WDW over DLR this year.

Yeah, those were what my sister was into, but I still watched all those beacuse, well, she wanted to.

So, a theme park with all those properties would be a sure-fire hit with our age group! haha! The little kids today though would be scratching their heads.

You have a very intelligent daughter!:lmao:

To sort of get back on topic, I've always thought the Mine Train was going to be a more detailed, slightly faster version of Casey Jr. at DL.

Disney has many, many more than 3-4 of those resorts though...4 themed resorts does not impress me at all.

Actually Universal has 3 onsite deluxe, a moderate priced resort opening this spring and a 5th hotel breaking ground laate this year....ONCE upon a time Disney was only The Golf resort ( now Shades of green ), The Poly and the Contemporary..It took many years for the Disney resorts that are there now to be built.

While an all star room itself may be the quality of a motel 6 the over all resort it self is much better than motel 6. I personally love the value resorts all of them. I also love to meet the characters but just meeting characters doesn't make me go to Disney for a week it's the rides, characters, restaurants, shopping, and feel of the property. I don't get that same feel in universal in my opinion. Many others do and that's great just for me universal just doesn't do it for maybe someday they will but it's not that day yet. Six flags is a concrete pad with a bunch of roller coasters in it that you spend a day at and no more. Universal and WDW are multi day places. And yes the prices at Disney are higher but that doesn't stop me because universal doesn't appeal to me.

The thing is, I don't think ANYONE is arguing on here that they just go the Hard Rock for a week for Universal. I think everyone who realizes how awesome Universal's parks are visit them every time. And I'm sure they go to WDW too, and Seaworld, and Busch Gardens, and LEGOland.

However, there are tons of people who go over and over to just WDW, and simply won't believe there is anything else in Orlando. The honest truth is that if those people love WDW so much that they spend entire weeks there every year, there is absolutely no way they would not enjoy at least a few Universal rides, and likely be really impressed with a few of them. There is simply no way that wouldn't happen. So, I don't understand why those people simply refuse to be exposed to rides and attractions that fellow Disney lovers say are amazing.

All of us Universal lovers aren't just lunatics. We all started loving Disney too. Why the hell else are we on the board?

But some of the stories on WHY folks don't like Universal. Spiderman wasn't any good because the story was hard to follow? REALLY? What's the story of Pirates of the Carribean? We're in a cave, end up between two ships that are flinging cannonballs just a few feet away from a town full of innocent women and children. We then see some sex slave traders, some drunks, some prisoners, and Johnny Depp in a room full of gold. WONDERFUL STORY!!!!

Is there a story to Haunted Mansion? I know there is a huge one created by fans. But really, the original mansion had no real story. We're in a old house, zombie and ghosts are cavorting. There is a bride with a heart problem in the attic, and hey, there are more ghosts. I can't follow that story?!?

The WDW For Life crowd simply make no sense. They really are missing out on HUGE opportunities for fun, but are too bullheaded to drive 5 miles up the interstate and check it out.

Oh well,

Jason

Anyone here interested in what Universal has been doing with Gringotts Bank in the last year while Disney has been working on the small coaster for the last 2.5 years?

Go check out Orlando Informers Countdown to Diagon Alley that was written today. It gives a detailed description of the theming and the attraction itself.

:scared1:

UTS (ugh)
I'm sorry but what's UTS? I'm trying to wrap my head around and the only serious thing I can think of is Utilidors
And since this will get buried I'm just going to say it, I have super low expectations for Gringotts judging by Forbidden Journey. If it wasn't for the KUKA arms that ride would pretty much be a giant empty warehouse. How should I believe that it is going to be extremely detailed whenever the rides main part will rely on the actual coaster part in the dark with a tiny light shining only on two feet of track, like how Forbidden Journey relied on the arms in total darkness? Maybe because I look at these rides with only a small thrill factor. I don't know, carry on

Under the Sea.

FJ is the most technologically advanced theme park ride in the world. But you are certainly welcome to your opinion of it. :)

If it wasn't for the ride mechanism in Soarin' it would be a movie theatre.
