Are these two similar in thrill factor? I can just about make it through BTM and have a FP for SDMT for an upcoming trip. I'd love to experience it with my family, so am hoping it's not more intense (drops really) than BTM.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!

As a person who can barely tolerate the drop on Splash Mountain, but loves BTMR, 7DMT is definitely less thrilling. A good chunk of the ride is actually pretty slow. With that said, it's still a lot of fun and you'll be fine! Though, as a note, I found sitting in the back made my stomach "flip" just a bit, so I'd sit closer to the middle/front just in case.

7DMT is definitely more mild than BTMRR (not that BTMRR is a wild ride either as coasters go). The drops on 7DMT aren't big, and it's a smoother coaster. BTMRR jerks you around and slides you side to side. 7DMT doesn't do that. It has some pretty steeply banked turns, but they're very smooth. It's divided up into sections. Starts with a coaster like "fast" section (which isn't all that fast), then a very slow session (as in Haunted Mansion or Small World slow), then another "fast" section. The fast sections don't last long at all. If you can handle BTMRR, you'll be fine on 7DMT. The middle section is really cool. Enjoy!!!

A thousand YAAAAAYs!!! Thank you all :-) I can deal with small drops that are on a bed, not straight down. Could never in my life do splash mountain!!!

Agree with all the posts that say 7DMT is more mild. I think it's one of the smoothest and least thrilling coasters in all of WDW that isn't specifically labeled as a kids coaster. BTMRR is certainly a bit more intense and not nearly as smooth. I do however love both of these rides.

7DMT has always been a disappointment... If the hype had not been so big then maybe it wouldn't be so. we will do 7DMT if we get a FP.. we will do BTMRR multiple times.. its one of the best.

My mom went on BTMRR when I was little and braced herself so much she hurt herself because she hates thrill rides.
My mom went on 7DMT in April because we "forced" her and while her face in the pic is absolutely hilarious she made it through and came out uninjured and could handle going on it again.
7DMT is milder than BTMRR.

Agree with everyone else, 7DMT is a lot less intense than BTMRR. It's still a fun ride, but a bit on the slow side...

7DMT is less intense, but the largest (small) drop on it is more straight down than the ones on BTMRR which all curve 180 degrees and have their full height hidden by rock work. The 7DMT hill is not a very big drop as far as coasters go, though, maybe about 35 feet. It is on a slight curve, but you can see the full drop if that bothers you.

I think it depends on where you sit on Thunder Mtn. If you sit at or near the front on that ride, the thrill level is pretty low. If you sit in the middle or back of Thunder Mtn, I would say the thrill level is the same or maybe a tad more than 7DMT

So a bit off topic - from reading the posts above: 7DMT would be good for an 11 and 7yr old who have never been on a ride (yes I have deprived my kids and I hope to make it up with this Disney trip) after we have taken them on the very tame rides (Pirates and It's a small world) and then move on to Thunder mountain, space mountain, etc... and ending with Splash mountain?

Yes. An 11 and 7 year old should be just fine. The drop on Pirates is almost as intense as anything on 7DMT.

35 feet?!!!! I think I may need to watch some POVs on this.

7 Dwarves is a lot smoother and since the cars can swing side to side it makes the turns easier to handle as well.
