Huh! Interesting. There were some wild rumors a while back about the hat being dismantled.

So OP, who won the family argument? Both?

It is officially now the hat, due to some issues when Mann bout Grumman's Chinese Theater. Now that they have been bought yet again, I would love to see Disney renegotiate with them to all them to remove the hat and have the the theater it.

This is not true. Any rights to the design would be negotiated with the designer, not the owner/tenant. Also, architectural copyrights do not apply to any building built before December 1, 1990. So there is nothing to negotiate. Disney just stuck the hat there because they wanted a more "Disney-like" focal point.

Yes it seems like this "Rights issue" urban legend was created because people just couldn't imagine that a Huge smart Company like Disney would put up such a ugly thing unless they had to. I'm assuming thats where this story came from.

I can't see the icon as being a souvenier stand. The "powers that be" that decide these things are not that feeble minded. My vote is for the Earfull Tower.

W seem to find things at HS in relation to the hat. So - I would vote for the hat as the icon of HS.

Besides being Park Icons, the other icons have a more useful purpose than a souvenir stand. But the Earful Tower doesn't even have that.

It WAS the theater that houses the Movie Ride, but due to some issues with the actual theater, the hat was placed in front and became the new "weenie." I prefer the theater personally, that was the Disney-MGM Studios of my childhood.

In my opinion it wasn't the Chinese Theater, it WAS the Earful Tower. Now it;s the Sorcerer hat
