I heard an odd news blurb on WBBM-AM (radio news station in Chicago). Supposedly housing authorities from New York are visiting the Bahamas to check out old cruise ships and see if they are suitable for acting as shelters for the homeless! Sounds like a good excuse to get a Bahamian vacation at taxpayer expense to me

I heard the same story here in Baltimore. They are looking at taking older retired ships and dock them in NYC to house the homeless. They aren't going cruising...strictly for shelter. I think this is a very creative use of a retired ship.

Yep, that's what Mayor Bloomberg is looking into. I thought is was funny, because I was just in Freeport about 2 weeks ago and saw those ships docked as we came in. They were looking at an old Holland America ship, and the two BIG RED BOATS!!! They actually said that the Big Red Boats were the best ones if they decided to do. Some people here in NYC think it is a good idea, so it's still being thought about. Personally a better option than last summer during the heat wave; they opened an old prision:earseek: :earseek:
