Okay, for those of you doing WW, did you set your goal, did you leader (if you attend meetings) help you? I had decided that 135 would be a good goal for me (I am 5'4"). my DH said, "I think you should try for 125, it's only 10 pounds less than your goal (ha! He has never had to diet a day in his life!!). Just looking for what others have done

Well for me, I looked at the healthy weight range for my height. I am 5'5, so that it 120-144 lbs. I chose the middle of the range at 130. I was quite skinny as a teenager/ young adult, at about 120 lbs, and I just decided that that weight wasn't realistic for me anymore. I want my goal to be something that is attainable. So 130 is my goal, and right now I am at 160, so I've got 30 lbs. to go. Now once I reach my goal I might want to keep going. I'll let you know when I get there!!! Good luck!

BabyTigger, here's something to think about:

Once you set your "official" goal weight with Weight Watchers, that will be your WW goal weight for Lifetime Membership purposes *forever*.

Are you planning on becoming a WW Lifetime Member? (Meet your goal weight, maintain it for 6 weeks, then weigh in once a month and attend as many meetings as you like, and you pay *nothing* as long as you're no more than 2 pounds over your goal weight.)

Will you be able to live with that very ambitious goal weight when you're 40? When you're 50?

A strategy you might consider: think about setting your WW goal weight at the TOP of the WW range. You can have your own personal, private goal at a lower number, but your "official" WW number will give you some cushion for WW Lifetime Member purposes...

Just something to think about, this is what I have done. My WW goal weight is 15 pounds higher that my true goal weight...

not doing WW however when I last went to the doctors office they said for 5'2.5" I should weigh 130.

Have dropped 25lbs and still have 9 to go to make it to 130. I know Im going to want to make it to 129 just so I can say I did it!
Left the 60s behind, left the 50s behind, left the 40s behind and now Im hoping to leave the 30s behind before I step foot on the Magic in Nov!

I totally agree with setting your WW goal at the top of your range. I am 5'2" and my top weight is 132. I am definately making it 132 so I can reach my goal and use that for lifetime. I will however keep loosing weight till about 125 or so. Wherever I feel I look good, and healthy.

I agree with the others, if you are attending the meetings and going for life-time member status, set your goal at the top end. That is what I did and although I'm no longer going to the meetings, that is my initial goal and then I feel that I will move it down more and then just follow how I am feeling and start working on toning more as well. I am 5'3 and I set my goal at 140 and I'm at 143.5 and know that I can lose more. I say set it at the top and then you can have room to go down if you want or still need to.

Hmm, I find this thread very interesting since I just had this discussion with my family doc. I am also 5'3 and set my WW goal at 140. In a discussion with him he told me he felt that reaching that weight was not necessary and if I got into the low 150's that would be sufficent. His theory is that since my adult life I have ranged way over the 140 mark and to reach that goal would probably not be realistic for me. I still am amining for that goal but sure felt some of the frustration I have been facing with having difficulty getting out of the 160's melt away.

I HATE this issue, as many of you are well aware! :)

Weight Watchers uses the BMI index. It doesn't take into account things like bone density, muscle mass, excess skin..... there are a lot of factors. The BEST way to determine your ideal weight is to have your muscle ratio tested. They hook you up to machines to determine what percentage of your body is fat, and what percentage is muscle. If that seems like too much, then just talk to your doctor. Everybody is different, and there isn't a single number that works for everybody.

As for selecting your goal weight for Weight Watchers purposes, take the HIGHEST that they will allow you to have. You'll be able to attend for free a lot sooner, and as Kathy said, later on in life, you won't have the issues of having to increase that goal weight as you get older. And, if you want something lower, you can definitely lose more until you hit your own personal goal.

And whatever you do, make sure it's for YOU. If you want 125, do it because that's what YOU want. Not because it's what your husband wants.

Good luck!
