Did anyone else know about the new service charge Disney is making us pay when we have packages delivered to the resort? We just found this out last week when we had 2 boxes of water delivered. The man told us that would be $5 per box. What!!! Yep, we had to pay an additional $10 for Disney to hold our package and deliver it to us.

What does everyone else think? Do you think this is fair?

We won't be having anything else delivered again that's for sure.

Yes, this has been in effect for a while now. You may want to visit our Resorts Board where there was discussion on the topic, since it is a Resort policy (not a DVC policy).

According to your sig, you were staying at BWV. BWV, BCV and BLT are convention center hotels. The package receiving at those hotels (like at most convention centers) is contracted out, and that contractor adds the surcharge.

We stayed at BWV 2 other times we were never charged anything.

And I didn't see it discussed on the resort board. I don't get to read every post here on the boards. I wish I did. So even if it was discussed I still don't think it's right. I'm sure there are others that had this little surprise when they received their packages.

So is it just at those hotels now or every hotel? We were never charged the 2 other times we stayed at BWV.

There really is no "right" or "wrong", it just "is." It isn't Disney or DVC adding these fees, it is a contractor who provides the services for a profit.

The convention hotels have contracted package services and business services to handle the convention shipping and receiving. It makes sense that all deliveries are routed to that receiving center. It really wouldn't be viable to have to 2 receiving areas, or to have a "part time" contracted busness center open only if there is a convention going on at the moment, but have Disney handle it the other times. Those contractors don't provide receiving services for free.

This really is pretty common for convention locations, especially now that more people are shipping any additional items rather than paying the airline fees.

As far as I know, the non-convention hotels do not charge for receiving, but they do charge for sending a package, even if it is prepaid with the shipper.

Edit: After reading a few other newer posts on the resorts board, it appears this is in effect for all resorts now, convention or non-convention. Someone was charged at the Grand Floridian. I guess guests simply started shipping too many items, and additional employees were required.

Still, it adds less than 50¢ to each bottle of water in a case of 24, so it should stil be cheaper than buying it in the parks or at the resort stores.

No doubt, as I said, the sheer number of shipped items has increased dramatically since the airlines implemented their luggage fees. Disney has likely had to hire additional personnel to handle those shipments.

Here would be my complaint about it...at DVC resorts that don't have contracted package services with IKON, wouldn't our dues be covering some of those employee costs? If so, there is a least a talking point to try to get a discounted receiving rate for DVC Members. Though, either way, I likely wouldn't have items delivered.

Convention resorts now have business and shipping/receiving services outsourced to IKON. This is a fairly recent change, so that would explain why you weren't charged the handling fee in the past.

If this is in effect at all resorts, it would likely be cheaper to rent a car for a day to do grocery shopping at Wal-Mart or Publix.

I'm pretty sure as of right now it's just at the convention center resorts. We stayed at POR in late June and sent a large box of supplies before we arrived. We were not charged any fees for this. We were warned by our travel agent that there was a possibility of being charged a fee so we called POR ahead of time and they were completely unaware of any charges for this service.

Is this shipped packages only? Does it include deliveries by Garden Grocer or Wego that are left with BS?

it is only for deliveries received through the shipping and receiving dept/area, not for deliveries to the front of the house that are handled by bell services AFAIK.

We one case of water delivered to the Poly in July. We were there two nights before moving to BCV. We were not charged. Matter of fact.....the water magically appeared in our room. Last summer we had water delivered to OKW and BCV and didn't pay anything. Not sure when these new feese went into affect though.

We had groceries delivered at BCV in July and we didn't have to pay anything extra. So groceries don't fall into the same category.

Well think of it is this way:

I believe Costco is around $7.00 a case shipped then adding on the $5.00 tht is only $12.00 for 36 bottles of water.

How much is a bottle of water at WDW? $2 or $3 a bottle x 36!!!! $2.50 x 36 = $90.00 :scared1: in my eyes better to pay the $5.00 fee for delivery.

Do I agree that they should charge $5.00 for a delivery? Not at all, but it is what it is and still cheaper to have it shipped than to pay for bottled water at the parks.

Sure, if you want to spend part of your limited vacation time grocery shopping. For me it's well worth the $5 for the convenience.
