server charged CC not DDP-- any experiences?

DH and I were reviewing our bank account, and noticed a $100+ charge from Le Cellier!!! :scared1: Our DDP should have been charged, and only a $17 tip should have been on the credit card! :headache: Of course, it's late now, so it'll have to wait till morning, but anyone deal with this before? I realize it's partly my fault for not looking over the receipt closer when I signed it, but I did clearly write in the total of $17 when I signed it, and not the total amount. Our server also knew good and well we were on the DDP. I'm hoping this will be an easy fix and they don't try to fight us too much.

I did read a thread about how some people were charged their cc instead of the dining plan. One person recommended that you put charging privileges only on your room cards and not your kids cards. Then when you pay for a meal for the dining plan, use your kids room card so they can't mix up and charge your credit card and pay tips with cash. We plan to do this because we don't want any problems when we are there. I know this does not help you now but I thought it might be a good idea for someone else going soon.

Good luck getting it fixed,

Loralie

There have been quite a few threads here about this happening over the course of the past six months or so.

The solution has been what Loralie posted. One solution that people have posted was to not put charging priviledges on at least one of your KTTW cards and then only use that card for meals as the only thing on that one KTTW would be the dining plan credits.

Leaving charging priveleges off at least one KTTW card and then using it for all DDP purchases is a great tip!!! I was planning on using cash for gratuities, so they wouldn't need any #cc at all, unless we order alcohol...which we rarely do...

I'll definitally be using this tip! Thanks so much Dis'ers! My husband keeps bugging me...why in the world do you check that website every single day... this is the exact reason! We leave in exactly one week and I"m still learning good tips!!!

yes, have seen a number of instances of this happening. Check your receipts.

Well I wish I had read those threads PRIOR to the trip! :surfweb: But thankfully, I called Disney today, and the worst part of it was waiting on hold. The CM was able to pull up our reservations, both at resort and at the restaurant and credited our card for the correct amount. Now, I'll breathe a big sigh of relief when I see that on the account, but I wasn't given any grief over any of it. I'd imagine y'all are right, this is a frequent occurrence and they're likely used to it.

Next time, I'll have no charging privileges and plan on tipping in cash only!

We don't hassle with cash at the World, so what we do is only use the room charge for tips and extras. That way if I don't catch a mistake on the receipt at the time of the meal (distractions being entirely possible when dealing with 3 kids!), I have a second chance to catch it when I review the room charge printout before checking out. My CC never leaves the room safe, and that way I'm not carrying around large amounts of cash (we do the deluxe dining plan, so our tip budget is several hundred dollars - way more cash than I want to be carrying).

For CS, snacks, and meals where there won't be any extras (CRT and other tip-included dining options), we use the card without charging privledges.

This is what I will be doing - I use the room key - but I can get a copy of the bill at any time and make sure the charges are correct. I will not be using my CC - except to pay the master room bill.

We had a different problem last year. On our last night we used our last TS credits for Whispering Canyon Cafe, there were 4 of us my DW, DD(5), DS(10) and myself. The server tried to put through the credits for 2 adults and 2 children. When she informed us that there were not enough children credits left we corrected her that it should be the 3 adults and 1 child credit. Everything appeared to be fine but when we got home there was additional charge of over $250 on our credit card that had been added to the room charge the next day after we checked out. When calling Disney we were told it was from the dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe. My wife explained that we had used dining credits and had a receipt to prove it and that the amount didn't even add up correctly and that it was way more than the bill would have been. Well Disney credited the amount and all was corrected by that phone call.

So we have learned to make sure that the correct TS credits are charged at each meal.

We had this happen at Tusker House last month.

We had switched from BWV to OKW that morning and left out BWV room keys in the car. When we checked in at TH I realized that we wanted to use those last few credits from our BWV stay instead of the new ones from our OKW stay to pay for the meal.

I spoke with the manager and she said that instead of going all the way out to the car she could just call BWV and get the needed information that way. We went ahead with our meal and got the receipt which showed a balance of $0 except for tip so we figured all was well. THe manager even confirmed to us on the way out that she called BWV and everything was fine.

Fast forward to the arrival of our CC bill the next month and there was a charge for the full amount for the TH meal (processed through the BWV).

It was easy to call and have them straighten it out but I did feel confident that the manager at TH had gotten it taken care of.

We never put charging on our KTTW card and did not this time either but somehow the BWV used the CC from check in and billed it that way.

So-moral of the story...don't leave your room key in the car when you switch resorts and no matter what-check those CC bills!

OK, I'm a little confused. Someone please help. I am planning on putting charging privileges on our KTTW cards for only my husband and I, but not on my child's card. I will use my son's card to pay for the meal with dining credits. Without carrying cash what is the best way to pay for the tips? Pull out an adult key with charging privileges, pull out a credit card (that I would prefer not to carry around), or is there another option of charging it to the room? How does THAT work?

Thanks for your help.
Sue

If you aren't going to carry cash - using the room key (and charging to your room) for tips would be the best option IMHO. The day before check out, go to the front desk and ask to review your room charges, they'll give you a print out and you can correct any errors before it gets charged to your credit card.

I do this because otherwise, I get stuck with conversion charges from US $$ to CDN $$.

I guess the question comes, does everyone check their check-out invoice? I know I review it and this would be the opportunity to catch just this type of problem.

We had already checked out with an invoice of $0 at 7:30am. It wasn't unitl the following day that the BWV charged our account with the TH meal.

Had this happen last year too at a CS in Epcot. We had already checked out of CSR, had 2 CS left for our last lunch in the World, and used them before we had to leave. I was assured by the check out CM that the CS credits were used, even though she was obviously new in her job that week (just after Labor Day, the College Program CMs had just arrived).

When I got my CC statement I had been charged by CSR. I called the resort customer service directly and had no problem getting the charge reversed. The CM at customer service did not outright say it, but since he knew exactly what I was saying and didn't take much time to pull up our room account and see 2 CS credits left on the table, I got the impression that this happens often.

There are only 2 adults in my party (no kid's KTTW card to use), so I am vigilant about making sure our room charges are correct. Can't do much about charges after checking out though.

I've been worried about this too! After seeing posts that people were charged I almost changed my mind not to do the ddp. But I am going to take cash for all tips and not allow charging on my kttw. I think it will just be easier

Same here, not even having my cc listed at all. Paying tips with my disney rewards card and all extras with cash. Do not want any headaches on my vacation.

How about using a pre-paid Disney Gift Card for tips and extras? Would this work? Doesn't the balance of the gift card show on the receipt? Can you even use a gift card for tipping?

I'm not planning on using a CC at all, if I can help it. I'm not going to put one on my KTTW card and I will probably lock my actual cards in the room safe! I'd rather just pay for everything in cash, it's much easier for me that way! :)

To all of those that are saying you are not putting a CC on your KTTW card I just want you to be aware that this may not eliminate the problem.

We did not have charging on our KTTW card but the BWV did ask us for one at check-in. This was for room incidentals and express check-out (and damage I suppose). We still had the charge from TH added to out CC because the restaurant contacted the BWV for the CC.

Also, if you booked on-line or via the phone I'm sure they have a CC # somewhere for you.

Not having a CC on your KTTW card will reduce the possibility-but not eliminate it. Be sure to check those CC statements!
