Seriously, what is your problem with Drudge?

:confused3 Just consider me ignorant on this. I don't get why some people fly into a hissy fit when that site is mentioned. The same voices use his name as an anathema against those they disagree with. So why is that? His is ONE of the many sites I read on at least a semi-regular basis. I notice that he has a tendency to lead with flashy stories. I also would say that he tends to give higher priority to stories that are unflattering to Democrats. But I don't notice where his accuracy is any less than your typical news source. Enlighten me as to why Drudge is bad.

O you've done it now.;) I was once pm'd that Drudge was slime and I must be too for reading him. (I mentioned something from the website.) You just opened a huge can of worms. I don't even listen to Drudge. I love the website because it has such a mishmash of news and information in one place.

Drudge first broke the story of the Monica Lewinsky scandal. I don't think the left ever got over it. I certainly hope that their negative feelings have nothing to do with his sexual orientation.

Or it could be that when a few people first heard of the drudge and gave me links, it had stories listed that weren't entirely true. I found it to be ureliable and full of misinformation. Granted this was a LOOOOOONG time ago, so maybe things have changed. I just didn't trust it. When I first found it I didn't realize it was politically affiliated with anything. Just a place that friends linked to "smutt" on anyone famous.

and this has nothing to do with politics

It has even less to do with Monica Lewinsky... I couldn't have cared less about that whole bunch of crap.

I've not trusted them as a reliable source of actual NEWS since.

ETA, I had no idea that Drudge was an actual person, let alone what the "sexual orientation" is

People view Drudge's site as a joke, but will link to media matters all the time, which is a Soros funded vehicle. I always get a kick out of that!

I don't like Drudge for the same reason why I don't like the liberal equivalent- it's too sensationalized. Too intent on tattle taling and trying to make the other side look bad. I consider those sites the National Enquirer of the political media.

And it has nothing to do with the 2000 election, the Lewinsky scandal, or Drudge's sexual orientation considering I don't even know what team Drudge plays for :sad2:

Looking into my crystal ball...

The far righties will nearly declare him a saint
The far lefities will declare him the devil
All the rest will say that sometimes he doesn't post the most reliable information so it's nice to see other sources as well.

It's my home page. I think he's a bit more on the political side, but if I don't like it...I don't read it !!!!!

Same thing about Howard Stern...if I don't want to hear it...i change the station.

I think Drudge has some of the most current news. Also has great links.

I don't post here (and another message board) because of too many people slamming me. If I find that I don't agree with someone, then I just let it go.

Why do some people have to focus on such small issues and make it a major case? Some people need to lighten up !!!!!!!!!!

OK...I finally said it....now who's going to make my point?!?!?!?!?!?;)

I've never understood it.

Drudge is mostly a compilation of links to other news sites. Very rarely does he have news stories that are his own, original reporting.

And his accuracy doesn't seem any different than that of the major news organizations. :confused3

With few exceptions Drudge merely links you to other sites that carry the actual stories. I tend to look at the sites he links you to and question whether or not I find them reliable or not. He certainly has a conservative tilt to things and presents more of their views than liberal ones but to me its nothing more than a clearing house for articles. It's almost like saying Yahoo News is reliable or not because of the type stories it links to. They just pick up headline stories from AP and other sources and link you to them via their site. As with any service that summarizes and presents stories they can have a bend one way or another but I don't have a whole lot of opinion one way or another unless they are creating their own content.

I'm not arguing, just saying....he does not report the stories....they are links.

Occasionally he does do reporting.

For instance, right now the "lead" story is headlined "Pelosi lowers the boom" and the copy reads:

PELOSI LOWERS THE BOOM
Wed May 16 2007 14:43:59 ET

After losing a string of embarrassing votes on the House floor because of procedural maneuvering, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has decided to change the current House Rules to completely shut down the floor to the minority.

The Democratic Leadership is threatening to change the current House Rules regarding the Republican right to the Motion to Recommit or the test of germaneness on the motion to recommit. This would be the first change to the germaneness rule since 1822.

In protest, the House Republicans are going to call procedural motions every half hour.

Developing...

It's not credited to the AP or any other news source, so this is Drudge's own reporting. I'm still searching the net to see if anyone else has reporting on it.

I do know that...I was being bad and waiting to see if someone was going to be rude to correct me. You have given me faith that not everyone has to slam others comments. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I apologize!!!(it was still fun):rolleyes1

I just use it as a source and search other sources (like you).

Happy searching !!!!!!!!

Those of you who believe Drudge's page is biased to the right are just plain wrong. I remembered a story I read in December about a political scientist at UCLA who attempted to quantify media bias. Here's the link.

http://www.newsroom.ucla.edu/page.asp?RelNum=6664

He found that Drudge leans left. Why is that? Because he primarily links to other news articles from the mainstream media and they overwhelmingly lean left.

I may be wrong but I don't think that is accurate. I believe it was the Washington Post who first had the story.
