Seriously upset by a film

I usually avoid films that will upset me. I prefer to watch movies for light-hearted entertainment and escapism.
I get ya. I like movies that also challenge me (if that makes sense) though as well (some documentaries are good for that for example)

I totally thought that I was getting a romantic movie out of P.S. I love you...yeah no it turned out to be a sob fest in the worst way..once was enough for me on that movie.

This is my feeling as well, although sometimes I do watch those of a more somber theme, especially ones based on true events, such as a war, as I find value in the historical context.

I haven't seen the movie described in OP, nor do I care to. Titanic is actually a favorite though, mostly for the focus on the romance of Rose and Jack, who are of course fictional characters. And I agree there are some scenes that are absolutely heartbreaking. Another one like this that comes to mind is the scene in Sophie's Choice where she has to make "the choice". Just devastating.

American History X is a great film, but VERY hard to watch. A Time To Kill as well.

The very end of Saving Private Ryan gets me every time - when the now aged Ryan asks his wife if he was a good man. That 50 years later, the sacrifices others made on his behalf still haunt him even more than his own personal losses. Sold out theatre filed out in dead silence after that one.

Two stick out in my mind:

We Were Soldiers
Black Hawk Down

I've watched them once, & I'm glad I did, but I'll never watch them again.

OK, so in theory it's my favourite film, but only because it is the most powerful film I've ever seen and I gauge films by their emotional impact.

I dared to watch it again.

And it brought me to tears. Just to watch mere kids' lives disintegrate around them at the hands of drugs and prostitution is too much to take.

Now I remember why I swore never to watch it again.

It's Requiem for a Dream, by the way.

When I read the subject line the first movie I thought of was Requiem for a Dream. It's an amazing movie but so upsetting. I've heard it described as the movie everyone should see once but only once. I watch it every 3-5 years, it's on my DVD shelf and I cringe every time I think about pulling it out and watching it. But I know I will break down and watch it again, it's just that good.

OMG I just wiki'd that movie :sad::sad:

Taking Chance

I had a family member k-I-a during his first tour in Afghanistan. It was taking SO long for him to come back to the states and I was so deep in grief I was angry about it. Another military friend from my past heard about what happened and called to check on me. I vented about how mad I was; I wanted him HOME. Friend told me what a process it really was and that one day (not at that moment) I needed to see the movie. A couple years later it happened to be coming on while I was flipping through and I watched. It hurt and I cried a lot, but I understood.

 I've still got some images from Titanic burned into the back of my eyes and how many years has it been since that came out? I only saw it once, the week it premiered.

This was the first one I thought of. I watched it when it came out im the theatre and can't watch it again even though DH bought the dvd. I was a serious mess watching it and the night after watching it I had a nightmare of the dead bodies floating in the water.

Also already mentioned but Schindler's List is another one for me.

This is exactly what I was going to say.I used to watch movies like this all the time but the older I get the less reality I want to see :) Shoot, man, life is hard enough without having to watch it on the big screen.

There are 2 movies that got me back in the 80's. Breaker Morant and Gallipolli. I had such a rosy/naive outlook on life and all was fair all across the world. It was really hard to see how life wasn't fair and people did crappy things to other people.

I think City of Angels upset me the most.

I really didn't know anything about it before I watched it, so yea.

Two films I would never watch again are My sister's keeper and The Curious case of Benjamin Button. I cried so hard at those two films. My sisters keeper I watched when my DD was only a few weeks old, so I was probably far too hormonal to deal with kind of storyline. And Benjamin Button. So sad.

Sad dogs movies I can't watch again.
Like Marley and me. A dogs purpose I will not watch again. Good movies but very sad watching a dog die. In a dogs purpose you watch the dog die over and over and over again.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Saw it for the first time a couple years ago. DH is a Nicholson fan and said it was a great movie. To me, it was disturbing and depressing and I hated the ending. But I guess that's supposed to be the point.
